The Greatest Puzzle Game That Nintendo Forgot About
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 30 сен 2024
- Back in mid 90's, Nintendo invented a puzzle game that fused action, strategy and skill into a perfect formula, one that gave way to one of the greatest game series ever. Panel de Pon, Tetris Attack, Pokemon Puzzle League, whatever cute looking thing you enjoyed, every version of the game was addictive and thoroughly enjoyable. And I want to show you how and why Puzzle League is so fantastic. There's nothing else to the video really, it's just me being happy for once!
Thanks for watching! I know this is different from the usual fare I produce on this channel, but I hope you enjoyed! If you did, I would greatly appreciate if you Liked, Shared, Commented or Subscribed! And drop some garbage on the bell, it's getting too arrogant lately.
As always, I need to offer my strictest and greatest thanks to my Patreon supporters. You are all amazing, and I'm so thankful for your kindness! / seergames

I can't believe Tetris Attack turned out to be the best ARPG.
Even as a mush brained child who despises puzzles I fucking loved this game.
My wife and I love this game. We got really, really good by playing for hours back when we were dating. We got to the point that when we encounter other people that play, we crush them (yes there's the speed setting for "balance," but blocks stop while they're disappearing so that's really just giving you your resources faster).
Then we went to a convention, and found the only two other people in our state that play at our level. In fact, they're a bit better than us (if you're reading this, hi Kiyo and Andrew!), but the skill level is close enough for some good, close games. We don't talk to them outside the convention (we live a few hours away from their city), but playing the Tetris Attack tournament with them every year at GameStorm in Portland is one of the highlights of our year.
This is *very* cute.
If you live in Seattle there is a puzzle gaming group. We need someone taken down a peg and would LOVE this.
@@tdnteedeeenn5505 I found the Panel Attack Discord group and got absolutely stomped today. I am super excited to be playing against people better than me. If you Seattle people wanna come down to Portland next GameStorm, we'd love to play; Kiyo is brutal thought.
That's really cool! I'd love to have a wife and friends. Especially ones that are great at Tetris Attack!
I take offense at 14:59, really stings when good content creators target you
Puyo Puyo isn't bad, I'm sorry for targeting you. I'd say it's easily in the top 10-15 puzzle games out there, fifteenth only to 14 other, better series.
@@seer6251 How can you know that when you haven't done the Finding the Best Puzzle Game Ever Made series yet?
Im down for more of these kind of videos just about a topic you want to make one on. Dont feel like it only has to be ARPGS and Diablo, its you and your style that we watch for ❤
I am really glad to hear that! I'll be back with more of these kinds of videos for sure!
Have you played the GBC version, Pokemon Puzzle Challenge? Intense mode on that was crazy.
Have you tried panel attack their computers are the most difficult it's gotten since it's the same style as Pokemon Puzzle Challenge for the GBC
Oh for sure, I actually love the handheld games. I haven't actually played them in years though, so I have no recollection of the difficulty. I ignored them in this video only because winning in those versions is different than the console rulesets. I'll have to spin it up again and see what it's like.
I caught that Illusion of Gaia music. This also is reminiscent of similar titles, and brings to mind Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Bubble Bobble, etc.
More great content.
Thank you very much! I could slam a little Bubble Bobble honestly, or Bust-a-move too.
Need… More… Seer
Don't worry you CAN'T get away from me.
Panel de pon, Tetris attack, Pokémon Puzzle league, Pokémon Puzzle challenge, Panel de pon Gamecube on the nintendo puzzle collections, the DSi puzzle league game ... Those puzzle games are my top favorite, I play them at least once a week (mostly the gamecube one now) Always loved this type of game and especially agaisnt others. Would spend hours fighting agaisnt my brother on SNES and then Gameboy color! I make new people play it when I have the chance because it is such a nice game! (Playing on 10 is so stressful but so much fun too!)
Bruno not putting up a fight at all? So just like normal Pokemon?
Speaking of Color Blind, I played this almost entirely on the GameBoy and it was one of my first cartridges for it. By far the best puzzle game I've played, and I agree with everything you've said.
Oh wow, I had no idea you are colorblind! Topical joke making in that case lol. But, see even you love the series, so my theory stands, the game is 10/10. Thanks for watching btw, as always!
@@seer6251 Naw the joke is the Gameboy is monochrome, yet they put Tetris Attack on it! Like Dr. Mario, it was an... acquired taste on the handhelds. I don't think I ever even tested it on my Gameboy Color. Theoretically I might still have thew cartridge...
And you seriously are the most underrated creator on the platform. A huge inspiration. Thanks for making banger after banger.
My brother and I LOVED Pokemon Puzzle League as kids and we never played puzzle games. We still quote it today "AWWW, POOR BABY!"
I think Nintendo forgets about it because they keep going "Eww, fairies... we can't sell this to people who expect GUNS on the cover of every game boxart!", which explained why Panel de Pon kept getting changed or adapted out into a generic title, which even got featured in Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
I love seer saved my saturday am
That's what I'm here for 💪
@@seer6251 but it's sunday....
I saw someone familiar at around 5:12 👀
Top-tier content right here! And top-tier game
oh hey! That's so cool! I love watching your vods from time to time, and it actually was the cleanest competitive footage I could find on RUclips lol. Thank you for watching!
In highschool I was playing this game vs my friend 2-3 hours a day. We found it featured at a few nintendo exhibitions, and nobody could play against us. My friend and I were used to have 1 hour matches, while nobody could manage their board well enough to last 5 minutes. When my movement speed on the SNES on this game was good I would always be setting up crazy combos. X? was very common.
The N64 game sucked. It had imput delay. PLaying SNES version on emulator also sucks due to imput delay. Only good version is playing it on an actual SNES. When you have 20X screens of blocks packed on you, and the match still lasts another 55 minutes, you know you're decent at the game now.
Always leave yourself 3 rows of blocks at the end so that you can clear all the garbage above. Don't waste ! blocks. If you use one in each combo, then it will take much longer for the opponnnet to clear blocks.
If you think a speed handicap matters, you really suck. You should always play at max speed so that you don't need to use L&R as much early on.
Super hard mode is hilarious. The AI lets up. They have fast cursor speed, but lack good decision making skills. You can beat all of the AI on S hard mode within 10-20 seconds if you're an average player.
I wonder if you'd be able to properly play it on a FPGA based emulation box since allegedly it all but eliminates input delay if you play it direct on a CRT (All LCDs will add ms delay/response times. Just the way the cookie crumbles)
@@InvadeNormandy I jail broke my SNES classic to play T-Attack and it's not the same :(
One thing I'm 100% certain of is that my brain doesn't work the same 20 years later. Would take a lot of practice to get back to where I used to be with this game. It used to be normal for me to see tetris blocks everywhere i went outside. made it easy for me to envision new ways to set-up blocks when i wasn't actually playing the game.
You boast a big game, I'll meet you at the local mall and we'll play a few rounds.
@@thaddcorbett2148 The SNES classic is still just normal classic style emulation. Look up FGPA emulator boxes- you might renew your spark for em with it being as 1:1 accurate without breaking a SNES outta storage.
Panel Attack has a ranked mode on PC.
I know, but I need offfficial Nintendooooooo stuuuuff. I don't like sitting behind my desk playing certain things lol, and Tetris Attack is one of them.
Dude just imagine Puzzle League 99.
I knooooooow! It sounds so perfect.
Pokemon Puzzle league is definitely my preferred vintage of this particular genre
If 10 year old me could have been a professional at any game it would have been puzzle league
Yeah I need this.
It really is a shame that nintendo hasn't really continued to bring out a new version of these old gems.
Btw, I heard you wishing for a very competitive online version of this game? You might wanna check out Panel Attack then!
At 5:12 you already saw a glimpse of it ~
Oh yeah, I've investigated Panel Attack! I just feel like it's not quite right. I want couch playing, chilled environment, smooth new game feel, as opposed to being cramped upright behind my desk with a wire covering me, shit everywhere, have to look for matches for awhile. It's really awesome that it exists though, I have fun watching others play it!
At the dawn of each day I thank Danky Kang, that what remains of my rotted brain releases "dope-main" whenever I see a seer video.
❤ right back at you
This is like skyrim for lithuanian people
I am actually like the best Panel de Pon/Tetris Attack/ Puzzle League/ Puzzle Challenge player in the world this game. And i will fight for this claim.
Also the animal crossing one is bad.
I'm a speedrunner of Pokemon Puzzle League, and while there have been videos discussing the puzzle league series as a whole, it's rare to see someone discuss PPL S-Hard specifically, especially the dick-block strat (we call it the double four combo setup, because we're boring). The top players are actually able to monitor the opponent's screen while chaining, and time the attack so the four combo block falls to the bottom, which usually results in a quick kill. If the opening attack fails, it's pretty common for runners to reset the stage and try again, rather than risk a five minute gauntlet. That being said, there's still an insane amount of RNG in the S-Hard run, which is why we set the estimate for speedrunning marathons to 40 minutes, even though I can usually finish within 25-30 minutes.
You're pretty good at PPL - if you're ever interested in getting into speedrunning and learning the strategies, feel free to reach out. :)
not only have you re-awakened a lost memory of mine, but also holy shit what a game. I rented PPL back in the blockbuster days and never got too far in the difficulties. Truly an underrated game. Online ranked games would go hard.
You absolute chad, putting in Illusion of Time (aka Illusion of Gaia) music in there! Loved that game, and loved it's spritual sequel Terranigma even more. It's funny you referenced Puyo Puyo too cos I was thinking through this whole vid that those games are really similar to this. I'm also absolutely terrible at them and you look like some kinda gigachad gaming god playing this game on the hardest difficulty and still completing it.
Growing up with Tetris Attack then not playing it for 25ish years only to check out Panel de Pon on NSO was like stepping into a fever dream.
What a blast from the past, I remember playing that Pokemon version when i was a kid after renting the game from Blockbuster. 10/10 great game.
Had a childhood friend who was amazing at Puzzle League/Panel-de-pon. Always liked watching him destroy Super Hard, especially since while I do like puzzle games, I'm pretty bad at them. Could get to hard, but could never beat Gary.
I've been wonderin wtf this video has been in my recommends, and then I was like oh is this about Yoshi's Cookie okay, I'll try it out, and then oh it's a SEER video? slang my dang.
I was obsessed with this game for the longest time. The first time I ever did Extra Life, I both started and ended the stream with Super Hard 1-credit clears on the SNES version. Which meant yes, after being awake for 24 hours I'd gone back at it. I was *fried*.
I love this freakin' game.
My entire life, all I've wanted was a version of Pokemon Puzzle League with the controls of Planet Puzzle League. Using the stylus was ten times easier, and you could pre-move blocks like a game of chess. $60 day one purchase.
I miss meteos for the ds. It was extremely similar to this except vertical and the lines would launch and each player was a different planet that had a different gravity gimmick. Check it out if ya havent. Hopefully ya have though. Except it's probably getting near 20 years old so maybe not...
I haven't checked it out actually! I'll look into it, thanks for the recommendation
Came down to see if anyone else mentioned meteos. It’s certainly not identical to panel de pon, but there’s enough parallels that you could see they’re similar. Meteos is what happens if you rotate panel de pon controls 90 degrees and add space ships
@@gummybread definitely not identical, just extremely similar! I figured saying it was vertical mostly got the point across haha. I love that game! The gravity gimmick was really neat.
I love that I could watch my skill in this game grow even as a child. The first time I got a maxed score in single player, it took about 45 minutes. At my peak I could consistently do it in under 10.
Also, getting the different victory music for max score was super neat
The year is 2015, at a little know place call PAX. Ahhh the story I could tell :D
Underrated aspect of the pokemon version; the sounds of the pokemon attacking absolutely burned into my brain. It was so threatening as a kid to hear them going off again and again knowing you were about to be blasted.
I loved how in panel de pon when you're doing the non-competitive single player puzzle mode, when you get half way through Gigachad will just randomly show up out of nowhere and challenge you to an extremely hard 1v1 where winning or losing has absolutely no bearing on anything. It also had the "surprise" plot twist of every single JRPG of that era, where it turns out the villain you're fighting for the entire game was just a puppet of a much more powerful evil who is the real final boss.
I still keep Dr. Mario & Puzzle League in my NES Edition GBA-SP next to my bed and play randomly.
seer postmaxxing
Finally, someone who gets it. There is no experience as intense as two opponents frantically chewing through 20 layers of garbage blocks as the danger music plays.
Love Panel de Pon Dunno why Nintendo is so allergic to showing the original PdP characters outside of Japan
Fuck yeah, Puzzle League.
I sucked ass as a kid (and somewhat still) at making combos, so I ended up being really good at playing the long game with an opponent. Longest game I've gotten in 2D most was somewhere around 16 minutes.
My whole family got competitive with Tetris Attack, bur only my sister and I were mad enough to fight in Warriors Woods. Love the Tiny avatar.
i think i managed to beat hard in the snes version once by pure dumb child luck, it's still one of my favorite gamers ever simply because you could play as yoshi characters. The chains are so satisfying but i could never do an air switch
Seer try Kirbys Avalanche (snes).
Another vintage gem, I am utter ASS at Kirby's Avalanche though lol
I'm terrible at tetris but my old man tought me ti talk shit playing the game, I've looked at tetras attack tournaments as secondary events st other gaming tournaments. Those guys suck, game is lit.
I remember playing a competitive Capcom (Street Fighter and others) version of this in college and loving it.
Another BAAAALLLing video from my favorite BBBBAAAAALLLLLing youtuber love your BAAAALLLLLSSSSy content mate keep it up it's so BBBBAAAAALLLLd
I have vivid memories renting this game on N64 from Hollywood Video as a kid.
Recently replayed it on Switch Online with my brother and it was such a nostalgic blast.
Im so glad you name dropped the game of me and my brothers childhood. Pokemon puzzle was the shiz
i've never been as mad playing video games as when i was playing puyo puyo casually with a friend. it really gets to me for some reason.
You should look into panel attack, the fan made recreation with online play and custom characters/themes
Planet Puzzle League with the stylus was fantastic. I won’t have this slander.
I like, comment, and subscribe for speaking the truth about Tetris Attack and all variations thereof. It really is baffling Nintendo hasn’t made a modernized version like Puyo Puyo.
Pokemon puzzle league is the fucking GOAT!
fuck, i love tetris but i suck a bejeweled. this game got me conflicted
I forgot Tracey even existed. Such a weird choice for the tutorial character.
I like when the little anime girls violently attack each other with giant bricks that also have anime faces.
Competitive multiplayer version of this exists~!
Still in early access, but it's called NEON RUMBLE
Plays on mobile, so you're swiping rather than having the horizonal-2-block-control-UI.. so it ends up playing super fast~
has all the classic game modes, and throws in fun creatures with powers n stuff too
I'll check it out! I'm happy to hear people are keeping the style alive!
This is the kind of video that randomly comes across someone's home page and slaps
"It's Activision Blizzard dropped straight onto your enemy" 🔥🔥🔥
Honestly Seer I always love seeing you branch out and make content you're more passionate about. Fun watch, hope you're doing good
Thank you for watching! I really enjoy dropping new stuff for you guys, and thanks for the well wishes! Things are going good for me, thank you!
The pokemon version was the goat of puzzle games in the n64
Oh man every arcade near a school in the 90's had one of these clone machines. Watching the best kids duel it out on a 2 player battle. Moving at inhumane speeds at 10 years old, pulling off massive sick combo after combo. This game mechanic is literally dopeamien being injected into the brain and blowing up neurons non-stop. The flash colours constant moving and "cells" becoming larger till POOF GOOD CHEMICAL INJECTION . Its amazing how someone created one of the perfect games in like the late 80's. And with all the clone machines that came out in the 90's doing their own thing 4-6-8 players. Suround sound blasting at you with huge vibrations colour fireworks going off nostop. Literal digital crack kids were legit addicted to this.
It blows tetris out of the water, and Puyo Puyo as well as its clones. Created the perfect video game mechanic so early in gaming. A game anyone can play&master that's always fun and never needs to be "updated" as the base game is literal perfection digital ecstacy zaping the brain nonstop pure bliss.
Its so simple yet so addictive you the player are moving dopamine around to attach them to cells in your brain. Causing them to blow up and release happy chemicals as massive colourful fireworks go off sound is blasting OK NUMBAH 1 WINNER. And two player makes it completely devilish as you are trying to ruin someones fun. Stacking more and more bad thoughts and vibes till they have a breakdown.
LUDO
KINO
PERFECTION
Not even BlackRock leftist wokism with god awful globohomo calarts wtv art politics injected bad music gacha lootbox super gambling fleecing stupid paypigs for all their money and etc negative cancer these type of devs use to create/ruin modern games in the name of subversion and progressivism. Like not even these terrible people could use this mechanic and create a bad game. Because once again it is literal perfection! I mean Nintendo created like 5? 6? games in the span of a few years on the NES&SNES, cheap assetflips and they still sold lulz along with a bunch of other companies doing their own thing.
Real men play with blocks. The more angular the better.
Seer publishes ANYTHING. And im watching it. LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOO
You're the realest viewer in the room 💪 Thank you!
Wario's Woods was the game for me of this type. Thx Seer!
Positive Seer? Okay what have you done with the lad and where is he?
What's that you say, too busy grinding Minecraft Legends to make a video I see?
Fair enough, it is the greatest ARPG ever.
Don't worry, I'll be back to being SALTY, and MEAN, and SHITHEADED soon enough
How are you gonna slander puyo puyo that stuff is so much fun
Oh fuck Tetris Attack!!! I played the ever loving shit out of this as a child at my grandma's. This brings back memories
Bcalath continues to prove he's a 10/10 viewer and game playing guy 💪
Tetris Attack is a better aRPG than Dungeon Siege 3
Me and my brother played this and Puzzle League almost every day in high school. Thank you for this video, Seer!!
Thank you for watching!
Puzzle pirates without gambling (as it toally trivialized the regular gameplay loop) was top tier puzzle based gaming
I know this isn't that game but I just had to put another puzzle game that went under appreciated into the conversation
Almost forgot that Seer does non-ARPG content, too.
I'd rather not throw money at nintendo... That's how you end up with 30 gens of the same low effort pokemon garbo and a law suit to mod makers and anyone that adapts the concept better then them because they are jealous that someone has more braincells than them. Anyways, screw nintendo
This comment contains fair points.
Love it so much i learned how to speedrun it ❤
Dude, I played the FOOK outta this game
Always glad to see my niche high-quality yet still small RUclipsr upload!
Just wait until I'm a mainstream, low quality Large RUclipsr, that's when we're in the money.
Puzzle fighters still get played by the fgc
Puzzled, befuddled, you fuckled...
An attempt was made 🤷♂
I appreciate this attempt greatly 🙏
I used to beat this game everytime i visited me grandma
wait a minute.....THIS ISN'T AN ARPG!
Meteos is better owo/ Bring back Meteooooos!!!
It was always very strange to me that Pokemon Puzzle League was based on the TV show and not the game series??
Oh yeah, ikr! It's maybe one of the only games to do so. But, I like the novelty it gives it tbh
I always wanted this genre to be modernized with an online rating system, or have this with 99 other players. Kinda crazy how this game came and went.
I know right. 99 player Panel would be so great. It's a shame it just didn't have the same marketability as other competitive puzzle games.
Didn't realise Yoshi had an arpg on the snes.
Seer spoiling us this month with content!
Greatest puzzle game of all time, if they made an online version of this game I would never play any other game again. Excellent video.
Thank you very much!
Wait untill he finds out about poyo poyo

@seer6251 it's been three years. As an old evil space wizard said "Do it."
Nah, the greatest puzzle game nibtendo forgot about is Dr. Mario.
But that might just be me. Me and tons of moms. Its very popular with moms for some reason.
Dr. Mario is also very good, but I am ass at it, so it's automatically not as good 🤷♂
