I like your idea of wrapping the lead rope around and around the thick wood rails of your round pen. I'd do that if I could, but very few people have a setup like that -- horizontal rails strong enough to withstand the pull-back weight of a horse. Many have vertical posts set in concrete, however. Ideal for any kind tie ring. So your emphasis on the various ways a Blocker Tie Ring can be used to tie a horse is well placed. It's all I use.
I use the logg just like you demonstrate to teach my mare to stand still, cause she used to freak out to stand tied. Now I can ground tie her while I'm prepping the arena for excercices or clean manure
I like this, but I have a very big Andalusian PRE mare who pulls back fast - in hand. Do you have any suggestions as to how I can stop this? It's dangerous. :)
Tough to answer without seeing it. But if they pull back while leading try to disengage the hind quarters to stop the backwards motion. Also as your leading make sure your not pulling on her, that’ll Give her something to brace on.
But caution wrapping around or tying to an INSIDE Rail that may pull loose.. perhaps use the Post instead? Just thinking out loud is all.. good stuff..

My horse is 11 years old, I've had him for a 1,5 years and he never had any issues being tied, was very affectionate and relaxed, when being tacked up. But then I accidentally zapped his nose with static electricity. Now he'll pull back if I lift my hands near his face, or sometimes even if I walk up to him from the front. Do you think this exorcise could help him get comfortable with my hands and my presence again? I should probably note that this has only been going on for about a week and I've been told that I need to be patient, which I understand. However, his fear reactions are fast and sudden and I really want to help him get through it to the best of my ability, because I'm afraid he could accidentally hurt himself.
This exercise with also lots of rubbing on his nose and allowing him to back up while he’s not tied. When he stops backing quit rubbing. Then start again. And yes patience is huge!! You got this.

That’s very true. If it’s not secured and they pull back it could be a bad day for sure. Those poles are bolted with 1/2” by 8” lags, just in case!
