It's mind boggling how much time and effort Scientology must dedicate to completely pointless internal administration and documentation (as well as external legal defense, private investigations, etc)...while having zero real effect/impact on society as a whole. It's like they are cosplaying an actual government agency or something, and need to keep themselves busy since they don't actually do real philanthropic or humanitarian work. An entire bureaucracy with thousands of people existing just for its own sake (and that of Miscavige). And coming up with their own "legalese" and lingo is so cringy to hear read out loud - like a bunch of children pretending to be lawyers. Being inside it must be like a fever dream.

Note that they said "there is zero evidence" that DM runs OSA... rather than saying "DM does not run OSA." There's a reason they didn't say the latter in a court filing. It would likely violate the Rules for Professional Conduct (Ethics) regarding "Candor before a Tribunal"

Their whole legal paperwork nitpicking defense is so stupid. The person with all the money is in charge. Its him; He lives like a head of state while everybody else is living like a prisoner. The guy running around with Tom Cruise on private jets, running all the events, and has all the money and expensive stuff. The one that is the only person that has stuck around for decades. Maybe, just maybe he's in charge despite what the paperwork says. Some judge needs to nut up and drop the hammer on these fools. Honest people are getting screwed by the legal system every day in this country and its barely possible to even serve this nutjob.

I know that Rinder and Healy have left, why have they not been charged? They were the people who terrorized people. Just because they left it does not excuse what they did.
This is what I'm wondering too, and my guess is maybe some of their victims are still in scientology, and the others are not willing to take it to court? Perhaps they were making amends and people weren't feeling revengeful because they understood they were also abused? I do wonder if it will change now that they seem to be getting defensive and shutting down all criticism. I imagine this could encourage some people to take legal actions in these circumstances. There's also the question how much evidence there is on them, but I can't imagine that it's not enough. They were too far up. There are documents and countless witnesses. Personally I might not want to pursue legal action had they been willing to admit to it, openly discuss it and apologize. But it kinda looks like maybe they're not, so I'd personally get pissed.

People need to remember that Mike Rinder was head of OSA. He’s switched sides and crafted a new public image for himself as a nice guy, but never forget where he came from and who trained him. He was amongst the worst of the worst, and for a long time, that COS had trained. Tigers don’t change their stripes.
There is also an interview from 1998 with Frank Oliver who says how osa is structured with DM at the top and under him was Mike but everything went thru Mike to David. Now the cult as a whole is compartmentalised but the ones at the top know what is happening. I would however assume that David is told what is deemed important enough for him to know but at the end of the day as the head of the organisation he’s responsible.
This could cause a subpoena to be issued to Mike Rinder, to verify the origin of the documents.
Thanks for clarifying about the thumbdrive. I had been wondering why MR had a drive full of OSA docs when he abruptly left the London office and escaped. I can understand having ongoing work product on a drive. I'm not sure I understand why he had previous reports on the drive as well as all the other documents. The drive isn't mentioned in his book at all, which is understandable - mentioning it might have caused Scientology PIs to break into his home and retrieve it. I'm curious about the metadata on the original documents, particularly date stamps. It would seem from that Linda image that he had the documents since 2004-ish. Also, nobody uses PDF for ongoing documents because it's too hard to edit. So it may be that MR escaped with the documents in another format and that he (or someone more tech savvy like Marc Headley) converted them into PDF before he started handing them out to people.
However, it's still odd that MR was taken out of the Hole (per his book) and sent to London/Saint Hill for a particular task. Where was the thumbdrive while he was in the Hole? How did he get hold of it again? He wouldn't have been able to hang on to it in the Hole, so he must have had it hidden somewhere.
Conspiracy theory time: MR needed to get rid of AAron from the AF board before he handed out the documents because he knew he could not control ASL in reading them (and couldn't reasonably deny him access while on the board) and therefore could not control the narrative that he wanted to establish, which is "this is what 'they' did and I was just a bystander with no culpability". It actually wasn't about anything AAron did in his private life, although MR used those things as pretexts.
We have to remember that MR was head of OSA for a reason. It wasn't accidental. He was regarded as someone who could be trusted to do the most despicable things that Scientology required doing. OSA didn't shape him. That was why he was assigned there in the first place. (His book seems to gloss over that part). Thus it's not surprising that he's still using the same techniques now - they're part of his nature, and probably part of OSA's nature because he set them up in the first place. Let's also remember that OSA is basically the Guardians Office with a new coat of paint.

He would have to, these documents are worthless without laying a foundation and Mike Rinder (as the guy who took the documents) is the only one who could.
He would likely decline as that would open him up to an attack that would make Mike look very negative as far as credibility in the eyes of the jury. Miscavidges team is going to fight tooth & and nail, and they'll be ready to get down and dirty if they need to. Also, I believe he'd be open to a sort of 'discovery' himself. But, that's just me not thinking too deeply about it at the moment. I hope I'm wrong.

@GrowingUpInScientology QUESTION: I don't know if Aaron will see this, but am curious if there is any limit to what CoS can claim as "protected" information. For example, can "church information" still be protected, if the attorneys have evidence that the protection is being used as a smoke screen to conceal crimes? To the best of my knowledge, crimes in the name of religion have ALWAYS been illegal, especially crimes against persons, animals, etc. (There are some noted exceptions in the area of plant/substance use, for indigenous populations).
The cult that i was in is non-religious, so the closest legal device they used was to have everyone sign an NDA, before receiving certain information. Then, when they handed out the information packet, the information was vague, and no reference to any crime was made.
We were made to return the information packets, the following week, and were forbidden to make copies, so i have only my memory to go by. From what i recall, the "course" described in the packets was immersive and intense. It mentioned role-playing, by a bunch of "actors."
Like most cults, they spoke with a "forked tongue," in that things were worded in such a way that they could have multiple interpretations/meanings. If read a certain way, it looked like just a powerful immersive course. If read in another way, (taking into account things that were left to the imagination, or never mentioned at all), one could easily see it as nothing but glorified gangstalking. Although i did NOT sign up for the course, it was "administered" to me, anyway, without my consent or prior knowledge. The form it took was, of course, the second meaning described. It was essentially their version of "fair-gaming."
If i manage to get my case into court, i believe that the NDA we were made to sign, along with their original liability waiver, would be ruled as "unconscionable contracts," because i don't believe that crimes can be, (or should be) protected as "trade secrets." There is legal precedent surrounding unconscionable contracts. I would expect the same would hold true with "religious secrets."
I might try writing my current representative, and see if she can bring this up, and propose to amend the law, if necessary, to reflect this reasoning.

Not for "control". The # of new cults springing every year (many high-control), the difficulty in tracking them becomes onerous, if not impossible. All such cult tracking, investigation, and exposure groups wanted a mechanism whereby each separate such organization in any European country could have access to an information clearinghouse which could provide on-demand, free information about ANY cult found anywhere in Europe. It's a great idea, and is probably very effective in forewarning everyone.

Scientologys lawyers asserts because the COB isn't in daily control that he isnt responsible. However, a fast search of the "chain of command" shows Miscaviage is in full control of Scientology. Furthur, Miscaviages actions in the trailers (his treatment of employees in those trailers) on gold base shows he is clearly influencing lower employees and is fully responsible for the daily happenings in Scientology offices.
