***** I can't even begin to count the number of headphones I've used over the years, high quality, low quality, and in between. I did a lot of sound work (studio and live) for bands back in the 70's and continue to do sound support for churches and other organizations today. Yes, some other headphones might have excelled in one area or another, but the ATH-M50s have provided the best overall sound quality combined with being comfortable for long periods of any I have ever used. There is a reason whey they are used in so many sound/recording studios and for live sound support as they give a very neutral response. Now I don't know what your criteria is to qualify as the "best" or what you consider "best", but you'll find a lot more professionals will rate the ATH-M50's as the best, or one of the best than any other single model out there. It's like the venerable Shure SM58 microphone. There is a reason they have been produced for so long and sell so well. These are considered one of the standards of the industry for a reason.
Hey man! Was just wondering if you could do an updated version of a video like this since so many new models have come out and you've tried out a majority of them. Pretty sure your credibility in the audio department is unquestionable haha so it'd be pretty cool to hear your updated opinions :)
I was reading a article online last week about headphone marketing and how the general consumer is so gullible. The fact that people just can't understand why Beats or Skullcandy is rarely a good buy is baffling.
I am including Marshall Major Pitch Black, got mine for 40$ and sound quality for 40$ is awesome. Definately recomending to anyone looking to best quality hp under 50$
Jaybird Bluebuds X seem perfect for me. It's such a hassle when I jog and box with my LG Bluetooth headset on and they constantly pop out of my ears. College resumes 08/22/15 and those Jaybirds are looking like my choice.
aznsupageek I tried them, and they honestly don't sound as good as the m50s. They sound better than the old Studios hands-down, they're probably worth something like $100 now, but still not enough to beat the m50s.

I think the Jack is going to stay around for quite a while in the audiofile arena. In fact we are starting to see more and more portable, high-quality USB-c DACs hitting the market.
If you want a good pair of headphones, headphone jack is the only way to go. Wired headphone sound quality blow wireless out of the water, and it will be that way for the foreseeable future.

don't get the m50x, get the m40x! They're cheaper, have a wider sound stage, are less v-shaped, and less bassy (studio monitors are supposed to be neutral, eh?)
It's not worth it. Trust me. I have experimented with a variety of headphones of different price levels. If you're looking for some level of audio quality, $100-150 is the right mark. However, I understand that people have different budgets and interests. If you're looking for something super cheap then I recommend Sony MDR-ZX100. They're easily available. I bought mine at a Walgreens. The pair was sturdy and lasted a while. For a pair that costs $20, the quality was pretty decent. Hope this helps.
i need earbuds though. I do alot of running and i don't think over the ear headphones would do the job. I bought an amazing pair of Sony for $16 three years ago and i'm searching for a replacement. The same pair now costs $110 :/
Sick vid man! You sound so white it's not a bad thing it's just funny ahahah! But yeah in all seriousness, this is great to inform people about the cheap, good options out there. I am 'that guy' who has been rocking the beats by dre studio's for the past 4 years around, and I still really like them, I'm not a fanboy of them I just find them to be insanely comfortable and my ears literally never get sore wearing them. But of course they are overpriced which is why i recommend getting them on a really good sale like I did on boxing week (I got them for $120 less than regular price!)
IdontlikeusingLOL Why the hell should I feel bad for buying beats? I have been using them for 4 years and I still love them.... The next generation beats are even better and I'm definitely going to upgrade to the wireless beats when I can afford it. It's all about personal preference and comfort, and that's why I have been with the beats for so long. I am a metalhead and beats sound great with the type of music i listen too. I also like electronic music a lot too. Ravi Patel Yeah man some people get sore if they wear the beats, but I only get sore ears if I wear them for longer than like 8 hours in a day which rarely happens. If I am on a really long flight I have to take breaks, so that's the only time it sucks. Audio Technicas are great too!
IdontlikeusingLOL It's called ignorance of the unknown. These headphones are all I have used and I have no complaints with them.... What's wrong with that?
Are you looking for Bluetooth? Is that why you mentioned the Jaybirds. If so there are some good options but be careful about connectivity. Many drop their signal like crazy.
Experience Headphones Well, I haven't owned a pair of Bluetooth in-ears, and as I said, I'd rather not pay £129 for a pair. Any kind of cheap, but good earphones would be great, thanks.
Jaybird also has another product: the Freedom Sprint. It is cheaper and is also wireless. As for the audio quality, i have no idea, never bought or watched a review about them
+Anime is The best Screw that. Sony can make a decent pair of headphones that they can sell for 20 dollars, but skullcandy sucks. I bought a pair from them and it was horrible. I ended up throwing them away, even though I had just spent thirty dollars on them the day before.
ӄιղɠ ѵสơR Yeah I too prefer there to be more distance before sound reaches my eardrums. Earbuds send sound directly into your ears, which is unforgiving with distortion and lower quality music.
I have both the V-Moda LP's and the Jbird's presented in this video. I've been satisfied with my LP's for years- although I am finally looking for a different pair of headphones. The LP's are great on the bass and I've picked up on some high's and mid's (and lows, for that matter!) that my other headphones seem to neglect. As for the Jbird's, I love to listen to them when I'm at the gym- great sound all around. The only issue I have with the Jaybirds is finding the best way to wear them. I can't wear them while running because they fall out easily. I've suspected that maybe my ear canals are just too small lol.
TommyV_OG So what? Some people grow up that way. Good for them. MKB is a good reviewer, and he wouldn't have gotten started without access to tech early on. Clearly he does well for himself these days with all the hits this channel gets
stop circlejerking the m50's tho.... They're not that good--at all, the m40's have a better frequenct response, k550 is genuinely better at everything, the dt770's are better, the kns8400 are better...
TheGamePlayer ???????????????? Kns8400 is 120 bucks (used to be 180) k550 is 150 bucks (used to be 220) dt770 250ohm is 180 bucks (used to be 280)....... m50's soundstage is nonexistent, it's coloured as fuck, and basically....for the price, sub par.
+Bodhi “Vix” Geraci As a guitarist who records in a studio, I can tell just by your comment just how fucking stupid you shound. I use the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x and its the best sounding headphones that I have ever used not only in the studio, but when I'm gaming on my PC too. Don't embarrass yourself anymore kid.
i love your videos, and i don't buy ANYTHING without checking what you think about it first. A bit of constructive criticism, when you have a video with more than one product, put a rotating title on what product you are talking about currently that will be on screen at all times. Thanks and keep up the super professional work!
MKB Thanks so much glad I came across this Review because I keep seeing ads for the Jaybirds and I always wanted to check them out but yet to see anyone do a review on them. This is my third Review on headphones and I just recently picked up a pair of Sony that way too big and not thrilled because they are to big for me. I really enjoyed Appreciate it Deb 👍
So, I'm an old dude with a collection of odd old headphones. Thanks for giving me some newer ones that are worth a listen. The only brands I own in common with your list are a pair of Grados ( the 60s) and a pair of Beyerdynamics (the 880s). I like both a lot. Maybe I'm out of touch, but since their first phono cartridges, I have heard Grado pronounced "grade-o" (as in "they made the grade") and Beyerdynamic as "buyer dynamic" (as in buyer and seller) but it might be different now. Thanks.
Hey, I am going through your old videos. It is kind of like visited a museum. This video seemed familiar and it turns out that I did watch this video and bought the #1 headphones which are next to me as I type, isn't that crazy. Thanks for your work! cheers
Thanks so much for uploading this video I had been having trouble with listening to music and playing drums because I can't here the bass drum so the Grado SR80i will be a great choice.
I certainly agree with you on this. The M50X have become my everyday day headphones. They are able to handle all genres of music and the sound is always clear with good bass I'd like to see the Audio Technicas go up against either the Bluedio UFO Pro or the Victory. Both of them have twelve drivers which, if done right, should deliver an awesome sound.
Dude... your videos are amazing! It's always a fun experience to come and watch your videos even if I am not really interested in the product haha. No in this case though, I'm going to buy the TH-M50x headphones now... off I go :)

Just saying for $120 I would rather get the Audio Technicas beats just don't sound good and hurt my ears :(
IdontlikeusingLOL
Why the hell should I feel bad for buying beats?
IdontlikeusingLOL #profilepic
Chris Jackson because you still overpaid and got an inferior product, even if they were on sale
IdontlikeusingLOL
It's called ignorance of the unknown. These headphones are all I have used and I have no complaints with them.... What's wrong with that?
make a 2.0 for this for under $1000
If you buy headphones over 500 you are dumb.
+George M. or rich. or an audiophile. or a producer. yada yada
+George M. Or you've just never used a good $800 pair of headphones therefore you don't know how nice it sounds
Sinoops I have used a 1,000 dollar pair. And they sound as good as a pair of monster N tunes
George M. Which pair buddy? and did you try proper FLAC files and did you use a proper amp?
I like a lot your video's edition bro, congrats!
For gaming Razer Kraken ftw
if you like wet farts as opposed to actual bass sure, Razer FTW!
You probably never had a Sennheiser...
lol
Overpriced
Razer Kraken cost about 60bucks
Can anyone recommend a cheap pair of in-ear headphones? I don't really want to get the Jaybirds, as they cost £129. Thanks.
As for the audio quality, i have no idea, never bought or watched a review about them
Freedom Sprint is definitely a good option.
Experience Headphones Ah, sorry. I forgot to mention that I would also like some wired recommendations, too.
Sorry if this sounded a bit commanding.
let's see if you guys know of what headphones i'm talking about, i'm just going to say one word and you will have to guess: overpriced.
Beats
we have a winner!
Yup beats cost 300$ but sound like they should be 60$ tops most bull shit headphones I've ever bought
Watching this in 2017. 4 Years make a huge difference!
make a new video.
can you review Sennheiser HD 598 Over-Ear Headphones please
Make a 2019 version
Nice vid @UrAvgConsumer
great vid man
I listened to a pair of amazing headphones, and when I looked up the price...$1700. I died and can never listen to my stock apple earbuds again.
Anyone watching on 2020
Lol I'm happy with my $20.00 Sony headphones :p
They are ok, the sound is a little faded and they are not comfortable after about 15-20 mins. But if you want to check out a a few songs it's great,
Cooper? What the hell 😂
***** fuckin weeaboo
I'm happy with my skullcandy :D 20 dollars also
+Anime is The best Screw that. Sony can make a decent pair of headphones that they can sell for 20 dollars, but skullcandy sucks. I bought a pair from them and it was horrible. I ended up throwing them away, even though I had just spent thirty dollars on them the day before.
For those of you that dislike bluetooth headphones, another good option for earbuds are the Shure SE215 for around $99 bucks.
Headphones =/= earbuds
earbuds sound so horrible
Earbuds don't necessarily sound horrible, smart one. They just don't sound "full".
***** that's why I don't like em
ӄιղɠ ѵสơR Yeah I too prefer there to be more distance before sound reaches my eardrums. Earbuds send sound directly into your ears, which is unforgiving with distortion and lower quality music.
***** sad part is, they always distort with any form of audio enhancement
Beats by Dre ad before this coincidence much?
Sennheiser HD 598!!!
Thanks for the video. Appreciate it man.
$150 for wireless earbuds sounds so fucking risky. No way I could make it through a school year without losing them. No way.
Yeah, too much, there are plenty of good ones under $50
Actually, the jay birds are completely worth it. Pretty much every person who reviewed earbuds recommended the jay birds
I got 10$ ones lmao
yep i had jaybirds and i fucking lost them in about 7 months 115$ gone
Agreed, i just picked up a pair of m50's for this school year.
hope the stormtrooper earbuds dont give you stormtrooper aim.
I laughed so hard at 8:28
me too, so true!
Actually, the urbeats are pretty good for $100 & also the beats tour for $150.
+Tahmitron697 wah
I like your videos. Not only because they re in good quality, but because the way you present things. Keep it on :)
***** Dude your reviews are awesome keep up the good work sir! Can you hook up a wireless/Bluetooth headphone review?
Oh look it ends at 911 I wonder why?
Bush did it
Beats By Chris (Feat. Rihanna)
Best Headphones In The Game
I have both the V-Moda LP's and the Jbird's presented in this video. I've been satisfied with my LP's for years- although I am finally looking for a different pair of headphones. The LP's are great on the bass and I've picked up on some high's and mid's (and lows, for that matter!) that my other headphones seem to neglect. As for the Jbird's, I love to listen to them when I'm at the gym- great sound all around. The only issue I have with the Jaybirds is finding the best way to wear them. I can't wear them while running because they fall out easily. I've suspected that maybe my ear canals are just too small lol.
0:34 *cringe
l0l gais why dnt u have beats by dre wht r yoo, gaye or somtin?
Lol
You must have really wealthy parents
He actually probably makes money through a another job, sponsor deals, and his RUclips audience.
ScreamingAtVespas
Preston JEnkins
He works with CNET and is sponsored by companies to give reviews on their products.
***** amen on that bro
ScreamingAtVespas I've been watching him since he started in like 07. He had multiple macs. Not for the house, but him. Parents had to be loaded.
TommyV_OG So what? Some people grow up that way. Good for them. MKB is a good reviewer, and he wouldn't have gotten started without access to tech early on. Clearly he does well for himself these days with all the hits this channel gets
I love my SteelSerries V3's.
Most comfortable headphones I've ever owned.
Superb sound.
stop circlejerking the m50's tho.... They're not that good--at all, the m40's have a better frequenct response, k550 is genuinely better at everything, the dt770's are better, the kns8400 are better...
"for under 200 bucks"
TheGamePlayer ???????????????? Kns8400 is 120 bucks (used to be 180) k550 is 150 bucks (used to be 220) dt770 250ohm is 180 bucks (used to be 280)....... m50's soundstage is nonexistent, it's coloured as fuck, and basically....for the price, sub par.
Harsh Singh Not really familiar with that price range, I know who is though...
HEAD-FI google it, you'll find your answer there.
Bodhi Geraci i guess i can look into them.. but ive tried some of those and it really comes down to personal preference.
Earbuds aren't headphones.
6:14 - 6:17 cant stop laughing hahaha
I absolutely adore my V-Moda Crossfade LP's, they're awesome! Super durable as well.
i see you have an NCAA volleyball back there! much love if youre a volleyball player too
i love your videos, and i don't buy ANYTHING without checking what you think about it first. A bit of constructive criticism, when you have a video with more than one product, put a rotating title on what product you are talking about currently that will be on screen at all times. Thanks and keep up the super professional work!
yoooo, just noticed your shirt man. U!timate Frisbee HYPE bro!
This is the video that sold me on my m50s and I still use them till this day!
Thanks.
Thanks ... very helpful ... I appreciate the first-hand user insight and "go to" recommendation. Went with the Jaybird and ATH-M50x (newer model).
Your reviews are awesome... to say the least. Well, by any chance you checked Sony MDR-XB950AP headphones?
great video.
pretty helpful.
keep the good work.
XD...
Hey, I am going through your old videos. It is kind of like visited a museum. This video seemed familiar and it turns out that I did watch this video and bought the #1 headphones which are next to me as I type, isn't that crazy. Thanks for your work! cheers
Wow you're channel was a lot of help and very fun to watch
Thanks so much for uploading this video I had been having trouble with listening to music and playing drums because I can't here the bass drum so the Grado SR80i will be a great choice.
Got the Jaybirds after watching so many reviews and sealed the deal after this video :)
I certainly agree with you on this. The M50X have become my everyday day headphones. They are able to handle all genres of music and the sound is always clear with good bass
I'd like to see the Audio Technicas go up against either the Bluedio UFO Pro or the Victory. Both of them have twelve drivers which, if done right, should deliver an awesome sound.
Hey buddy! Just wondering what your thoughts on the M50x vs the M70x. In the market for new headphones for reference and mixing.
Great job with the your work. I hope my son grows up like you.
Well, MKBHD, I've bought about $400-worth of headphones based largely on your reviews. All fantastic choices. Thanks for the guidance.
Hey for the majority of these headphones would you need an amp in order for them to sound good? please reply quickly thanks
Is not at all quick enough?
what about in terms of sound quality the Audio technica ATH M50X vs sennheiser pxc 550?
Dude... your videos are amazing! It's always a fun experience to come and watch your videos even if I am not really interested in the product haha. No in this case though, I'm going to buy the TH-M50x headphones now... off I go :)
