I think Angelina knows what emotions she sings about. We sometimes under estimate children especially gifted ones. Her ability to express emotions in the way that she does makes me believe she is an empath.
Look at her book, she published at 9y out of her diary she wrote at 6y.!! She changed the emotional position with the orphan girl and see the peoples walking around without mention the pain of the young child Therefor she did the Vowes of her barefoot performance to help poor children in the world
She "had a dream" at a very young age. By the time she was 3 she seemed to know what her dream in life was and seemed very determined to achieve that dream. With this song, she seemed to have changed the meaning, at least in her mind, to HER dream. And so far she has "Done it her way!!"
Angelina, our genius at any age, born to sing and that's why it is like breathing to her. And to top it off she is becoming more beautiful every day. Someday soon with this total package walking around on this earth her explosion will resonate around the world and I hope I live long enough to see it. Thumbs up Harri...there is only one Angelina.
Great reaction. Angelina was 11 turning 12 here, recording a few songs with Egil the guitarist and probably with grandma recording. Before she started to sing here Egil was making her laugh, it was just a backing track for this so he was just listening to her sing. Grandma was probably also laughing at what ever Egil had been doing, so Angelina had to focus in order to sing, not the best atmosphere for such a sombre song. Angelina is in her comfort zone when she sings Sinatra or Elvis. I'm sure Angelina had experiences to draw on when it comes to emotions, coupled with her incredible empathy - she can become the song, live the story and be the music. What an incredible combination of attributes for such a young person...
She was 5 days into her 12th year here. Thank you so much for your ending commentary. I believe when comments are posted saying she is too young they are people unfamiliar with the talent of Angelina, maybe first time listeners. With all the lyrics that I hear in so much of today's songs by younger singers, the songs AJ performs are extremely mild by comparison. Who ever said you have to have lived a song to be able to sing it? What Angelina does is pure magic and I do believe she knows what she is singing about because, as in this video, she gets a little shy at the end of the video. In this case realizing that the lyrics really don't fit her age. It's still okay to sing it for God sake! I used to sing songs myself when I was a child that had deep meaning just because I liked the song. So what?
Thank you, Frank, I totally agree. I get so tired of people saying Angelina can't sing a certain song because she has never experienced it. It's just a song for God sake. She sings it beautifully, with or without relevant experience.
There is a veritable Olympiad out there of people trying to win the prize of who emits the highest marks, or who manages to impress in an overwhelming way an audience that looks for that which shines with the greatest "ease." Fortunately, so far, Angelina has not entered any of those imaginary competitions. Theirs, what is deep and special about her, is her search for the "true meaning" that lyrics should have, the intrinsic emotion and how a certain song should really "sound". That is why he has developed this huge box of vocal tools, simply so as not to "have to stay halfway" for lack of vocal qualities, when his enormous and beautiful sense of musicality indicates the type of emotion he should display to do honor to the song and its creators. Tks., Harry.
This was a very insightful reaction. I especially enjoyed the last couple of minutes with your discussion about Angelina's ability to express emotion she has not experienced. Also the fact that her family has been very supportive and helping her decide what is appropriate and not appropriate for her age. Several songs she has rewritten the lyrics for on our own!
This is what Angelina does, singing convincingly about things far beyond her years and experience. Oh, I bet she does understand what the song is about, even if she's not supposed to. Her empathic powers are simply amazing. Her God-given gifts of talent and ability are off the charts. We are looking forward to much more from her as her voice matures, and she experiences some of the things she sings about. Hopefully without the depth of pain, sorrow, and regret that many people have.
No "big band" No mixing and over lays. Sitting down! in a room just singing without a damn mic? It's not fair! This was just messing around. Totally raw.
Every time she smiles, waves and says 'bye,' I cannot help but laugh. It is like her private joke on us: 'Let me tug on their heart strings fior a while and then le them know I did it to them, agan."
Once again Mr Harry, you do it YOUR way. Perfect reaction. We all hope Angelina never experiences the pain that plagues most young superstars. You are the best. Love you brother.
No worry, its a reasen she (her mom) turn down agent end record Company til she signe in november. Her onkel is maneger. End a Norwegian prudceers cold Star gate help her.
Great reaction,, she does see or interprets the meaning of every song she does different than anybody else does or she will change the meaning of the song to fit her interpretation of the song supposed to be,,👣🌬🌎
From Iowa, USA; OK, WOW ❗🤗🌹 1. An important thing to remember about AJ is that she refused to sign for a record deal through AGT and they relented and invited her to sing anyway. 2. AJ is currently signed with Republic Records. 3. She began singing at 18 months and due to her grandmothers influence, she was drawn to and fell in love with jazz and blues music. 4. She has been arranging most, if not all of her music performances since she was 8 years old. Hopefully this will remain as she continues her career with Republic. 5. Currently in 2022 she still performs barefoot and I hope by now that you have discovered the incredible reason why she does that. 6. AJ sews her own clothes, (the cloth is designed by her grandmother) and she stands 6 feet tall at 15 yeats old! 7. We all hope to enjoy her performances for many years to come. 8. BTW I'm 80 and have been involved privately in music since age 7.
I'm compelled to wait awhile for her to mature before listening to find out whether maturity will bring originality, a truly personal musical soul to inform and guide that remarkable instrument.
not all clothes suit everyone either... but that don't mean you can't try something on, just for fun. It was good to see the impish giggle at the end. Proving she wasn't being pretentious.
Great reaction Harri! You are correct, this IS Sinatra’s song, and Angelina does a wonderful job of covering it, but if you want to see Angelina SURPASS Sinatra in a song he made famous, react to Angelina singing “You Make Me Feel So Young”. Angelina is thirteen, and her voice continued to improve. She does both parts of this “duet” far better than Frank (I know... it’s hard to believe)! 👍❤️
Maybe 11 years old. She turned 12 same week this one was uploaded. But she got a mic to her 12th birthday. So probably she was still 11 years old when she sang this. In a foreign language too. Not many, if anyone her age can do this. Very young! It's impressive!
Great comments Harri. She is just to good for most people to deal with, Most try to balance her in a natural progressive way and fail to realize this one that can not be analyzed as the rest of the upcoming and established singers. We have never had one like her before in the past century.
Have you ever heard of Brenda Lee who has a strong voice.I do not believe her Angelina's vocals will ever blow the rafters off a ceiling. She has a lot of learning to if that ever happens. Barbara Streisand started young and has power and fullness.
Exactly Harri This is why I preferred rhe Shirley Bassey version of Adagio I ferl like she has lived this song This is a nice version but to sing it emphatically like Sinatra does MY WAY !! might seem a mite petulant at her age so I am glad she did it THIS way I am sure she will grow into this song
Great reaction. It has been mentioned frequently that Angelina often sings songs that she hasn't "experienced" or can't know how to interpret. This song is not that. She can easily look at her own career (albeit a bit short so far) and pour her choices (good and maybe less good ones), highs and lows, successes and regrets into the lyrics of this song. Sure, if she sings it later it will be different but she can come closer to applying her experience to this song than many that she does.
Sheer courage to take on Sinatra & enjoy herself the way she just so automatically did with the ease & panache of a master, which in my book she totally is.....
I wonder hearing this, if Angelina doesn't chafe a bit at the restrictions her family puts on her. That may be how she relates to this song. Whatever, her technical ability enabled her to do this song wonderfully.
I don't recall if you have already done so, but if not you must react to Angelina singing How Great Thou Art. This is her absolute lowest register, at the same level as Elvis Presley, a male three times her age! It is incomprehensible.
I think she was more like 12 here, not 13. She’s also sung about physical love, drugs, suicide, etc., of which she has no personal knowledge. Somehow she is still able to emote enough to affect the listeners with chills or tears. How is that?
She's not too young, she's too good. She doesn't need to sing his corny nonsense; there are some great songwriters out there who would jump at the chance to write for her.
Children pass on all the time , it's a solemn song in a way , but I think at any age it can be appropriate . I've seen this clip and she is matter of fact about it .
A child can imitate the greats. Very precocious, but..............she's still a little girl. Little girls don't have the experience and wisdom to sing Frank Sinatra from the heart.
I don't agree with you about experience that you have to had. Some other reactors have the same sentiment like you. There are people from a very young age that experience life very different emotionally than most people. Another aspect is that the majority of her fans and reactors don't know much about her personal life to make a judgement about her feelings and experience. Most true artist are very sensitive. I personal think that every thing wasn't so plain sailing for Angelina as we might think.
Harri, I agree with your initial take, that she is far too young to be singing this song. She's experienced next to nothing in life, and has no credibility to sing it. Watching and listening to her you could tell she was just going through the motions and reciting the meaningless (to her) lyrics. Unlike you, I didn't see any shift in her performance toward the end, it was flat and emotionless all the way through. Which is precisely what I would expect from a 12-year old girl singing this song, regardless of how good her voice is. There are a million age-appropriate songs for her to sing. That she's doing this one at 12 is just another unfortunate example of the poor parenting she's receiving. But I do have something positive to say--at least she didn't sing/breathe the song a la Marilyn Monroe, like she did in that Franki Valli embarrassment.
I think song meanings are lost especially if the person is too young. Songs like My Way, One for my Baby and Yesterday when I was young are songs written for crooners and torch singers. The whole nature of these songs is that the story is told by someone who has lived and been around the block a few times. There are so many other songs for her to sing and still be in that nostalgic realm without touching these particular ones. When she's 40 and has some battle scars then I can imagine her doing supreme versions.
Elvis sings Frank's song better than both singers and I love Frank. If she does not stop copying others, I will never become her fan.
I just don’t get the hype surrounding her. She’s different for sure but how long can she do heavily stylised covers. It’s a bit of a one trick pony act. I’d like to see her in 5-10 years writing and producing her own stuff to a high standard. Sorry people but for me Angelina is something of a novelty act and in no way deserves the almost religious fervour surrounding her. Modern music acts are so shallow and quick to be over hyped only to fade after a while. Her career hasn’t even started
You don't need to wait 5-10 years. She wrote the music and lyrics to her first song "What Is Life" at 11, before she did My Way here. It's on her first released album "It's Magic" that she released at 12 yo, along with another original "Oslo" she wrote about her hometown. This one trick pony already has people singing her song "Shield" on talent shows that she co-wrote at 12. Not to mention "Million Miles" she wrote and recorded for Republic Records (UMG) at 14 and "7th Heaven" at 15, her current age. She also has recorded an original written for her at 12 "A Song For A" a classical song and "Above The Water" a lively dance song in EDM genre at 14. Maybe take a listen?
Angelina Jordan is too GOOD to "sing Sinatra" Sinatra was the LAZIEST vocalist to ever be promoted and hyped to stardom by his mob buddies who controlled the Recording Industry. Simply magical, brings a classic back to life! Great reaction.
