  • I decided to begin my actual fitness journey with this 21 day fitness challenge to walk/jog 1 mile a day for 21 days. I began thinking that I could magically run 1 mile a day as a complete beginner but I was greatly mistaken and re-evaluated my goals very fast. Jogging is definitely not easy just starting out but it got easier over time and it is a very effective way to lose weight and tone up. I didn’t really enjoy running but it feels good to have completed this 21 day fitness challenge and I am definitely loving the before and after results. In this video you will see my ups, downs, and the challenges I face being over-weight and running.
    Starting Weight: 252.4 lbs
    Current Weight: 239.8 lbs
    Goal Weight: 150 lbs.
THANK YOU FOR WATCHING! Please, stick around for a while! My weight loss journey to lose 100lbs is just getting started. Subscribe and turn on the notification bell if you would like to see more.

You could try working out in the park at first, it can be fun and the scenery helps make it not feel like working out, there also aren't too many people there so you hopefully won't feel like people are judging you. good luck on your fitness journey :)

As your cardiovascular endurance improves, running becomes enjoyable. And when you lose all the weight that's slowing you down, you actually feel motivated to get out there and run. RUNNER'S HIGH IS REAL

So true! I've struggled with my weight my entire life. A few years ago I lost 80lbs to enlist into the military. Long story short, alot has happened and I've gained it ALL back. Working on losing it again 💪🏼 . But I remember that i got addicted to running 🏃‍♀️. I got up to 9mi at one point. It made me feel so much better, and overall I felt healthier. It's amazing how much of a difference you can feel inside and out when you're healthy. Runners high is a real thing. 👌 hopefully I can re-enlist by next year if I meet my fitness goals.

    • @mignonhagemeijer3726
      @mignonhagemeijer3726 3 года назад +67

Yeah it is super awesome. Man, once you get that mindset and get into running people can be amazed by what one can accomplish! Especially on a treadmill it is a good start as seeing the numbers can be super motivating and you can easily distract yourself with a show or something when it gets hard. I hated running with passion (astma + all kinds of orthodontic issues ), but that all changed when I got onto a threadmill during a cruise. I made huge progress in a short time. After that I got also into running outside and it made me so happy. It is all about just getting like 1 second faster or 1 meter farther away and then after that you see "wooowww I went from 5min on 7km/h to 30min 9,5km/h".
      Sorry for the happy rant.
Ps. Do give your body time to recover. Recovering is as importaint as the exersice. Will get you farther in the long run. :)

If you are going for a 5k distance and you get to the running 1 pole walking 1 pole stage you k ow you have run half a 5k. Running two pole and walking 1 pole you know you have run 2/3 of a 5k, etc. Eventually you will be running 15/16ths of a 5k and be like, do I even need to walk? And then you are there.

as someone who lost weight by jogging/running, the best way to keep it up is to make sure that you enjoy it! exercise doesn't have to feel like you're dying at any point. you can build your endurance even while making it fun: make a playlist, listen to a podcast, and if you have a treadmill, watch your favorite show on your phone... and if you can't run or jog, then just keep walking! it's really hard to do something when we're just focused on the end results, that's why a lot of diet and workout plans fail. make your exercise personalized so you'll really feel like you're doing it for yourself :)

I have a treadmill in my room so I’ll run on it but the only problem is that it’s so loud and beeps so that everyone can hear😭
I’m eating way healthier, focusing on getting protein, potassium, vitamins and electrolytes by myself, I’m drinking a gallon of water a day and I’m working out in the comfort of my room now

Starting out is nothing but awkward and uncomfortable, but it gets better. Last month I was depressed because I was so out of shape, had no energy, and both my BP and resting pulse rate were way too high. This month I’m making improvements in all those areas, 😢just from exercise. Whatever noise my exercise makes is joyful; it’s what progress sounds like. As an experienced runner, I'd like to offer some modifications to your exercise routine!
    1. focus more on time rather than distance for starters. 10 to 20 minutes is great!
    2. time how long you can run without walking and purposefully attempt to increase that time a little bit at a time.
    3. research running shoes that can work for you. everyone is different, and you likely need special shoes that won't give you blisters, arch pain, and even alleviate joint pain.
    4. you'll like this one! do not run every day of the week! try doing 5 to 6 days a week. the body needs time to recover and grow stronger. Maybe do 3 days in a row and then take a day off?
    5. this one is harder, but try to run outside as much as you can!
    6. listen to your body. certain pain can be good like normal muscle soreness, but joint pain, arch pain, and shin pain is common and could mean you are injuring yourself. if the pain doesn't go away after a few runs or it gets worse, stop running and seek professional opinions before continuing (but you don't have to stop exercise: there are plenty of alternatives to running!)
    7. get a friend! you said so yourself, it's easier to do something terrible with friends lol. an exercise buddy is absolutely imperative to long term motivation.
    8. have fun with it, and try to force a positive attitude even when you feel miserable. way easier said than done
hope these tips are helpful and not too long! good luck with your exercising venture!

After my fourth child. I hit my highest. I thought, I was going to run a mile on our local bike. I jogged maybe and was sore for over a week. I jumped the running ship and went to rollerblading I lost 30 lb in 3 months. Later, I got back into running. I have ran nine miles Max. My third child ran a half a marathon in March 2020. Keep working at a healthy lifestyle. We fall off the wagon. Never give up Running, cycling, swimming, power walking, rollerblading, and throw some weight training even if it's 5 minutes. Whatever it is routine is important. Two of my daughter's exercise on a regular almost daily basis. I have never seen my parents exercise a day in their life. You're more powerful than you realize you're not just doing something for yourself but, you're challenging others to be more like-minded in their ambitions. Plus, you encourage me today too. I felt like, I was laughing at myself. I remember these aches and pains. I remember wearing boots for 6 weeks because, I had plantars fasciitis. Wear good shoes girl. You got this! 👌👍😊! What fasting schedule did you use? I find 16/8 easy, but doesn't do much for weight loss. I'm going to try 18/6 or 20/4 and see what happens. I'm 57 and have lost 43 pounds in the last 10 months(I started at 297), but have hit a plateau now. I have a bad ticker and a pacemaker, so I can't go crazy exercising. I walk a couple miles every weekday morning but can't really do anything more intense than that. I can walk farther, but don't have the time in the morning. Sometimes we do a little more on the weekends. Still have another 75ish more pounds to go. I would love to get there by the middle of 2022, so my goals are doable, but progress seems to be at pretty much a standstill right now.

I read about a long distance runner who had this great tip: When you're learning to run you should walk/jog at a pace so that you can still keep a conversation. So basically if you feel like you can't talk, slow down! As you gain statima and get more fit, you can run faster while still being able to talk, so basically that can be what sets a healthy pace as a beginner and when you're advanced

Tweaky no that’s the point, if you can’t talk then go slower, most people can’t talk while running, you gotta start at walking and build up to jogging

Watching this feels like looking into a mirror! I’m on another weight loss journey and now that I’m in my late 20’s it is much different then when I was 17 and dropping weight by just looking at a treadmill. But you are doing amazing and you are looking amazing! I believe in you! I believe you can achieve anything you set your mind to! Keep putting in the hard work!!! I’m right here with you!

Advice (if you want it): Try to associate running with good emotions, as opposed to negative emotions, it helps a LOT with motivation. Example: instead of thinking "i want to run to lose weight and change my body", try linking it to something like "I've had a rough day so im going to put on feel good music and run for a mile" Eventually if u stick with that your mind will link running with positive emotions, instead of negative "ugh i dont rly want to but im forcing myself to" feelings. It will turn into a natural response. I saw this in a video somewhere and it honestly helped me A LOT (this can also work with basically anything that you're trying to do)

Honestly... hearing your experience with school sports helped me a lot. I always thought it was just me that had legit traumatising experiences there.
It got to a point where i have trouble finding ANY cardio i can do because getting into that "okay body needs to work, breathing gets slightly quicker, heartreate goes up" state, I have/had full blown panic attacks.
You're so nice to listen to and have such a great personality from what I can see. Thank you.

conversation speed. run as fast ( rather as slow for 99% of us normal human beings) to formulate a normal sentence. You can talk to yourself running like 'oh so now im running and still can talk, i think that is great'. your speed and endurance will get better over time. Better to run/walk slowly for 15 minutes than try "go for it" for 2 minutes :)

what worked for me personally was walking a lap slow and controlled while focusing on breathing in through my nose and out of my mouth and then graduate to jogging and eventually running. I have asthma and when I run Im prone to random anxiety attacks but I just keep in mind that I have the control to change pace to breathe better and that nobody else can control the situation but me.

Hi there. I am 60. I took up running in my 40s . I was diagnosed with MS a and I was determined to outrun it. I started at the high school track. I walk ran until I could run for 30 minutes. It took awhile. Then I started running g full time. I learned to love it. Like you I was very unathletic all my life. I ran for about eight years until MS forced me to stop. I miss it terribly now.
