  • As it was post-rain, we had TONS of mosquitoes as you will also hear in the video. (Fortunately, this time I didn't have larger and considerably nastier attackers like gadflies.)
As with all my 6K Open Gate videos, I strived for allowing for high-quality, motion blur-free stills image extraction from the video so I started with 1/200-1/250s and only decreased it to first 1/160s and then 1/125s when the light levels considerably fell and the ISO values started to be consistently around 51200. I used fully manual mode so that I can dial in a (fixed) shutter speed, while also keeping the aperture between 4.0...7.1 (instead of the 3.5) to maximize sharpness / minimize CA and the likes. Otherwise, the camera would have used 1/30s most of the time, which would have meant completely useless, blurry framegrabs 99% of the time. So, having "digital look" (regarding choppy / jerky movement) and high ISO is deliberate. That's the price one has to pay for absolutely EXCELLENT framegrabs.
Fortunately, the relative high ISOs almost constantly being used isn't that big a problem with the S5 II - even 51200 produces pretty good results in videos.
As opposed to the previous occasion when we accidentally ran into the forest, this time I brought decent clothing (long boots etc.) to protect myself and also consumed a lot of garlic prior to avoid mites biting me. This was pretty much necessary, as - as you can see - sometimes the vegetation was almost as high as myself.
Also knowing what the paths look like, this time I walked both paths.

The video thumbnail isn't the head of a bear - it just looks like that :) More in the video from around 01:18:00 and 01:24:10. And of course other animal-like roots are also spottable in the video - along with tons of mushrooms, berries etc.
