This anthem is fantastic and touch my heart always when i hear it. It is the oldes hymne (1568) in the world and the most wunderful one. It was written first for Wilhelm I von Oranien- Nassau in Dillenburg/Germany and it was declared as the national anthem of Netherland on 10.may 1932. It is my favourite hymne. @@baltasargutierrez5366 Not completely true. The text of the Japanese hymn is indeed (much) older. The music however was first written in 1880. Furthermore was the Dutch anthem specifically written in order to explain why and how the Netherlands became an independent sovereign country.

Don't be proud, I'm Dutch and anything but proud of this little nation. It's a country with:
- politicians with no backbones, they like to kiss up to EU / USA
- no ancient imperial pride (except for some overseas territories)
- history build on slaves
- no honor's in time of despair, ww1, ww2 (surrendered after 5 days of "fighting"), cold war, Bosnian war, etc.
- genocide on Indonesian people (very cowardly)
- people who are scared of muslims
- citizens who are scared to stand up against the government
- Feminism and Gay pride as trade mark
- no nationalism / patriotism
- an anthem only about the founder of the Netherlands and not about it's people and country itself

Everyone has their ugly mistakes in the past but ours isnt even behind us. we built our society on slavery too only stopped over a century after everyone else abolished it. polititians are always ass kissing weasels. they arent always insane though. thats what bothers me here....

Marnix was born in Brussels, and was the (calvinist) mayor of Antwerp before he was forced by the contrareformation to flee to Holland, where he died in Leiden.

Je kunt het woord jood voor ungevaccineerd uit wisselen. Ze hebben het in het bloed. Napoleon zei .,,de duitser is in Naivität nicht zu überbieten. Helaas. Als dat zo for gaat ben ik ongeacht mijn leegftijd weg. Dit hielt ik Niet voor mogelijk.i

I first heard this in a movie. It was "The Hiding Place" The family listened in secret to a broadcast from Queen Wilhelmina, then the anthem played. They all stood up when it began.
