Never shipped fish before so good to know. Only thing I would add is there is an insulated thick foil pad that is sold in hardware stores and a Japanese Dollar Store called Daiso. It's said to help retain heat so I wonder if lining the box with that stuff would keep the package warm enough to get to their destination more safely
A Gamer's Wife I also purchased a tool to cut through styrofoam and have no mess from the pieces. Off amazon it was $21.99. Best investment I made. Here it is: Kohree Upgrade Hot Wire Foam Cutter, 3 in 1 Styrofoam Knife Cutter Electric Hotwire Foam Cutting Tool, 100-240V /18W Heated Foam Carving Knife Kit
What a GREAT video! Aquarium hobbyists are definitely going to appreciate your thorough tutorial on shipping live! Thanks again for the shrimp (you know how obsessed I am with them lol) and for letting me hop in on this video!
@@GirlTalksFish no topics at all.You are doing cool stuff to keep my aquarium clean and my entertainment high. But anyway I would like if you will make a video about breeding corydoras
Excellent thorough and concise essay on sending live fish/shrimp. Clean clear and very easy to follow. Footage and results from your recipient was an outstanding way to complete it. 👍🏼 For what it’s worth - I’d love to see this quality of a report describing a larger project (several installments) like selective breeding reds and orange down to green shrimp.
If u want, u can add a piece or two of hornwort plants instead of a plastic mesh in the shrimp bag. It will not only let them hang on to it, but also provide bit of extra oxygen and also to a shrimp or two does, it can absorb some of the bad stuff. U r also helping the environment like this as ur using less plastic :) plus the customer/buyer gets an extra piece of fee plant and if they don’t want it they can always compost it or just throw it away.
Excellent editing. The points were well presented. I've used breather bags before, but didn't think to loosely wrap in newspaper. That was a good tip. Thanks Irene!
Bridget is such a great person! So happy to see her on your channel! I love how thorough this video was. It’s going to come in handy for when I finally get around to selling some of my shellies
What a great video on shipping. Including some food samples or other freebies is always so appreciated and so much more personal. Love the tip from LR Bretz on using the double bags and tying each one off. Such a nice, safe, secure package. Looking forward to a video on that gecko. 👍💕👍
this is literally the best shipping video I have seen, and I have checked a lot of vids. you covered pretty much everything there is to know about shipping. One question, since im using the breather bags, would affect the ocygen exchange if I wrapped the whole package with plastic bags? also, do you recommend adding some purigen in the bag? thanks for everything, im geting into shipping shrimps and im doing my research as you did.
I'm glad it helped you! I wrapped the insides of the package with plastic bags, but since it wasn't airtight or waterproof, I believe gas exchange still occurred. I seem to remember that Rachel O'Leary would add a chunk of sponge that removes ammonia and other toxic chemicals, but I can't find the name of it.
Well done. I have this one bookmarked in case I ever decide to start selling online. One question: what size rubber bands do you use? I take fish to my LFS fairly often, and I can only find assortment packs at the store.
Oh good question! I just asked my LFS if I could buy some of their fish bags and rubber bands so I could sell them fish, and they were like "Here" and gave me a ton of them. So I actually have no idea what size they are. 😅
I've heard that stuff is awesome! If I ever started selling fish and shrimp on a larger scale, I would definitely invest in Poly-filter to reduce losses.
@@courtneytupper6389 yeah you’re right, I rewatched it and caught it the second time round, cheers, so used to people floating bags and thinking thats acclimation 👍
Great information! I may be selling some shrimp on craigslist soon, but I want to be prepared before listing anything and this video is full of excellent tips. So do you think that I should buy some shrimp food to give away to customers? What is the protocol for a seller? I have plenty of carpeting plants that I could give away as I let the excess dwarf sag and valisnaria nana float, but I have no frogbit or mosses. Any advice would be appreciated Irene. What substitute for newsprint do you suggest because I don't get newspapers anymore?
Thank you for the amazing tutorial! I am going to start breeding my axolotls soon and I am very prepared, I’m just worried about customers how do you get your name out there? I don’t wanna end up with 400+ babies 😂 social media is definitely the way to go but any other tips?
Silly question but with wrapping them in the paper and tying the plastic bag is this sealing them from air. I guess there is lots of air for exchange caught in the bag though?
I recently got fish shipped in but those type of bags you're using and the fish came both times two fish came back and died I knew the moment I opened the box I had dead fish because I could smell them decaying what's the secret to keep him alive on those bags
Haha, right? I think if you were going to frequently ship, you could probably save a lot of time by purchasing the foam in precut pieces, buying premade labels, etc.
Oh dear. If they're juveniles, they should gain more color as they get older. But if they're adults, you may have been sent some low grade cherry shrimp. You can try feeding them krill-based foods to see if it'll bring out their coloration. Hope that helps!
@@GirlTalksFish Thank you so much!!! I an feeding them carrots as you mentioned in one of your videps it can help with color (I think it was in "What to feed your shrimp" video or something like that) I am also going to buy spirulina since I read it can also help with coloring. About age most of them are about 1 inch, so I assume that means adult
Hmm, that sounds like super soft water with high buffering capacity (which means you won't be able to change the pH as easily). There are ways to raise the GH, but you could probably keep a lot of Amazonian fish and maybe even cardinal shrimp with those kinds of readings. Definitely do more research on them first.
A Gamer's Wife I have 7 tanks rn and all my fish are flourishing. I keep angels, tetras, even killis and gouramis and a dwarf puffer. Most of my plants do pretty decent I’m just paranoid about plants not doing super great :( all my root feeding plants seem to be doing great, but all my stem plants do lackluster. The only stem plant that is flourishing is some hygro. Angustifolia.
Great question! I think it may depend on your post office. I have a full-time fish breeder/seller who lives near me and frequently uses the same post office, so they don't freak out when they see that label. Not that it guarantees it, but I do think the delivery people do treat the boxes a little better when they see that label because no one wants to see animals hurt. 🤞

Oh my goodness, I would love to make a gecko video! But I'm afraid of "annoying" my viewers with non-fish content. 😅
Thanks, nice to know what a properly packed package looks like.
You are truly a person of many talents.
I've sold 1,000s on eBay out of a 10g tank. I make around $70 net profit per week from that tank alone.
that's quite a bit of work for 70 bucks. It is shrimp so not bad. I really get spoiled working in IT I get 70 bucks in 1.5 hours
You're back! ❤
Yeah baby! 😁
Can you make a video on how to advertise selling fish? I think that would helpful to people who aren’t getting many buyers
Wow, wish I could order all things from you. Your the best packager I’ve ever seen. 👍🏻❤️
Wow, thank you so much! Or more like, thanks to all the other fish sellers I learned from. 😂
My dad is wanting to send me some pearl Danois to put with my white opal betta, so this video is perfect timing for me. 😂
Ooo that sounds like such a beautiful stocking selection! Best of luck with the shipping.
Thanks so much for this video! I have a new colony of shrimp and once they start breeding I want to sell some online. This will help me out a lot!

Have you ever used a small piece of poly-filter when you ship?
It can absorb wastes and ammonia.

I always use a couple pebbles of a zeolite/carbon blend. Works great, especially for 🐟.

Can’t the shrimp go through the holes in the tank separator?

How many hours the shrimp inside the plastic bag?
Hi ! The insulation foam link takes me to a pink foam is that one fine to use to ship ?
What is the cost of shipping? Thank you.
Do you not poke airholes in the box?
When selling fish do you have to habe a license or need a business card??

for floating plants i wouldnt wrap in paper towels id only put paer towel on the side of the roots
it maximizes the amanout of survivors

I used the method in this video with the breather bags to ship my beloved blood parrots. The bags leaked during shipment and my fish died.
Now how do we purchase some shrimp of yours?!😂

Using that kind of flakey styrofoam is a sure way to get your customers to hate you and never order again.
A lot of work. That is why I do not ever plan on shipping any aquatics.
Can you ship to phillipines?
