The Paper Girls comic had some of the most consistent time travel logic I've ever seen, right after DARK. Hopefully the show will keep that up.
Well... I always keep my expectations low and my mind open, so not to lash out whenever books or comics are adapted to another media.
It seems like it has a similar vibe but it looks different in terms of plot
... there's a scene in the comic books where they get warned not to trust a clone and it is revealed that the only reason they got that warning is because a time portal coincidentally appeared in front of them and was coincidentally the one they needed to send that warning and were willing to get rid of one of their only weapons (hockey stick) for the slight chance that that portal might be the one that leads to that specific time and place, which ended up being the most contrived thing I've read in comics, so please don't put this in the same category as Dark. I still continued reading because Vaughan knows how to make interesting and likeable characters but I didn't care much about the time travel logic because he's not going to sell me on the time travel logic if it's based of off contrived coincidences.

the acting of the four young leads is astonishingly good ,half way through and enjoying hugely , and as a science fiction freak the story is brilliant and logical
How is it that so many people can accept this kind of writing as logical? The time travel logic here is extremely broken!!!!! So you guys all think that if one of you were travel to the future that you would run into your future selves? Well Im calling it and youre all dumb as bricks! Because if you travelled to the future, how is it that you somehow remained behind and lived out your normal life? Did you have a clone or something? Comparing this garbage to DARK is an insult. Beloved image comic book... Im sure glad I missed that era!!!!
For everyone commenting this looks like a Stranger Things ripoff...PAPER GIRLS CAME 1ST ..it was a very well received and beloved Image comic book series that came out in 2015. ST debuted in 2016.
Much like Dune was before Star Wars.
Those people would be surprised how similar Stranger Things is to 2011 Super 8.

Everyone can stop and think for a second why this show was created in the first place.
You can take "DARK" for example. It's look like stranger things but it's very different. But here you can't see the difference.

The issue is not people saying the shows look alike, is people calling it a rip off when Paper Girls is just following it's own source material, which predates Stranger Things.

the casting was so amazing as someone who was a fan of the comics when they were first issued i loved this show, while it’s not the exact same as the comics i actually love that bc it adds so much depth to their characters that they didn’t get in the comics and i’m praying Amazon prime will give them a chance and renew it 🙏
I've been following this story and this show since the show was announced, and FINALLY it's almost here! I'm ready for this show to blow up!
I found out about this from an ad and I didn't skip it because the first few seconds because it looked so interesting and it kept me with the seriousness of it mixed with the comedy.
I found out about the comic and read the whole thing same day.

It's boring, slow, and struggles to have an identity. The whole main cast is literal checkbox "diversity". That neither interesting or organic.
Sofia Rosisky, who plays Mac Coyle, is probable the only real stand out, but that isn't saying much.

really hope people will give this a chance despite the stranger things similarities. this is one of my favorite comics and I think the casting looks great! despite the budget issues, i think this show has a lot of potential :) it’s also coming out the day after my birthday so HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MEEEE lol

Finally , it's here. Paper girls is one of my favourite comic series. I've been waiting for this adaptation , can't wait to see how they're going to bring the story to life
Just to be clear, Paper Girls comic predates Stranger Things.... and if you actually read the comic you'd know they have very little in common anyway other than time frame and it centers around a group of kids.
The source material for this show came out before Stranger Things, but this actual Amazon show used Stranger Things as inspiration. It's Undeniable!

I can look at the trailer and see they have very little in common. Seriously, I don't understand where this comparison is coming from. Not once did ST pop up in my head when watching the trailer. The comparison is ridiculous.
@@Anime10473 I think it's the whole "it's sci-fi 80's nostalgia kids on bikes" thing so obviously it must be the same thing. But I think the comparisons will die out once more people get to know the plot and see it's way less "horror" and more "sci-fi" and there is future timelines in it and the past setting is actually used as a setup for conceptual comparisons to contemporary ideas and the conversation of choices and consequences etc. etc.
This makes me have hope for more comics like this to have adaptations, aside from Marvel and DC. I’m really hoping Nailbiter gets a TV series someday.

I agree with you that we need more Image, Dark Horse comics adaptations for movies and tv shows that aren’t the big 2. There’s so many possibilities.

@@mathieuedde1465 Saga would be perfect as an adult animated series. Think of it like it's Avatar: The Last Airbender but for an adult audience.
Can confirm that the 6 volume series is great with writing by Brian K. Vaughan (Runaways, Saga and Y: The Last Man) and illustrated by Cliff Chiang (Human Target and Wonder Woman- 2011 run). Plus filming has already begun on the second season and Vaughan confirmed the show will have surprises for those us who have read the books. Enjoy the ride!
I was wondering if they managed to fit everything into 1 season. Or if they butchered it like Y: The Last Man where they just completely removed characters and chunks of the story for the sake of TV.

Bad News: Just confirmed that Amazon will not be picking up Paper Girls for Season 2. Fortunately, Legendary TV (co-producers) are shopping the series to other networks and filming had already been partially completed for Season 2. We'll probably see it back in some form on another streaming service.
What service do you think we'll see it on? Netflix? Hulu?

Invincible was amazing for sure. I thought it had great animation for the most part, but i have faith that it will be improved by the time season 2 and 3 comes out. 😊
There are SO many time-travel twists in this series you will not see coming. If you loved the amazing Netflix series "DARK" you will absolutely love Paper Girls. They do time travel just perfect but with an 80's tween girls twist. 10/10 imo. On par with DARK for sure regarding the writing.
I love Paper Girls. When it was out, I couldn't wait to read it every month. I fucking loved that book but I don't know how I feel about this trailer.

Would you be able to explain (without spoilers) how it was the anti-Stranger Things? I haven’t read many of the comics (only volume 1), and since there are obviously similar themes here (kids in the 80s Midwest riding around on bikes & getting into sci-fi adventures), I’m curious as to how they may differ on a fundamental level.

@@caras4766 dont listen to that guy. The comic is about a group of kids in the 80's facing crazy supernatural situations. Pretty much the same thing, although the comic is older.
@@caras4766 instead of paper girls focusing on 80s nostalgia it focuses on the hard ships of the 80s and how not all groups of people had it easy. It shows issues that the period faced like racism and homophobia.

You all say that this is a rip off stranger things but does stranger things have a canon sapphic relationship? No. Does stranger things have time travel? No.
Also this came first.
I can’t recall whether that other group of telekinetic teens in Season 2 or 3 had lesbians.
Sapphic relationships are vanilla now. Dr Strange had one. I hear Lightyear has one. Thor probably has one- I know it has a prominent bisexual character. I know they have gay male relationships in movies and shows, but I rarely see it in “adventure” type movies and shows.
Stranger Things can’t even have Will be gay yet, although I’m sure he *will* by the end of the series.
To be fair there’s a good chance robin and that girl she has a crush on (I forgot her name lmao) will be a thing, but yeah they’re almost nothing like eachother besides the kids on bikes in the 80s thing
@@jimjo8541 these girls are quite young though and we barely ever get that in film/tv. It is also one of the first saphic relationships that I’ve seen that hasn’t been sexualized. Their relationship is also very well written and is a huge part of their character arcs and to the story. So it can inspire a lot of young girls who have maybe felt the same way as kj or mac and make them feel ok with feeling that way towards another girl at a young age.
one of the main characters is a lesbian. And pretty much hooked up at the end of this season.
And there are very strong hints that another main character is gay too.
And it does have alternate dimension which you could say is a substitute for time travel here.
YO! UNCANCEL IT! My wife and I were digging this show after we got done with Stranger Things and were disappointed about the news.

I hope Netflix picks this series up soon since Amazon canceled this series. They left on a cliffhanger with episode 8. Also, these girls aren’t getting young. They’re going to go through puberty and they can’t go back to 1988 as older teenagers. It’s like when Bart and Milhouse fixed time in Springfield when it was frozen but they’re in their 20’s at 6 feet tall and Bart is chillin’ in his bed and little Lisa was telling her mom that her older brother, Bart looks different.
I was thinking the same thing. The actors are 15 about, so they're at an age where you go from looking preteenish to noticeably older, which is gonna be harder to play the 12-year old look, unless the writers go with a - they been stuck in the 1950s for a few years - excuse.
Hopefully the show comes back. My wife and I love the whole kids and teens solving a mystery theme like the Goonies or Stranger Things (it's a nostalgic thing), so we watched this whenever we were eating dinner which fit our liking.
1) This is NOT stranger things at all.
2) You should ignore the dislikes of this trailer and WATCH IT!
3) Picture meeting yourself 31 years later
10/10 Underrated series.

Paul Simon wrote this song back in the late 60's. Had no idea The Bangles performed it 20 years later. Only knew the original Simon and Garfunkel version. First Kate Bush, now Paul Simon. Who's next?

Gave this a shot and loved it. I read the first volume and dug it, but never really picked it back up. I think this is a case where the film format gives a bit more depth to the characters through acting. The girl who plays Mac is excellent.

I would love seeing Saga being adapted if the creators allow it. If they do, i hope they make it as an adult animated series. Invincible has proven that comics/graphic novels being adapted to animation can work super well. It would be so cool!

Love Paper Girls, but for some reason this trailer isn't working for me. The production value doesn't feel there, some of the camera work and CGI in action sequences feels a little CW, and the writing (maybe it's just the editing) feels a bit off? I don't know. I hope it's great. Paper Girls is such a special story with a powerful message. I want everyone to love this, so I hope I'm wrong and it works better when I'm actually watching it.

You've never actually read the comics then clearly because Paper Girls is literally about TIME TRAVEL and has very little to nothing in common with Stranger Things. It's supposed to revolve around more coming to the Y2K times
This is like Back To The Future, Facts of Life, Goonies, The Temporal War story arc from Star Trek Enterprise, Stranger Things, Stargate and Transformers all mixed into one and still not that. This really is it's own thing, with a cooler sound track.

It's kinda weird seeing people compare this to stranger things like i get it.. this show has kids, time travel and an 80s backdrop but that is literally the only similarity and thats a very mild one. That's like calling the umbrella academy 'a stranger' things rip off' because of the time travel elements and the occasional kid scenes. I'm pretty sure stranger things doesn't own the whole time travel, 80s and kids themes.
