    I use paths for boxes and highlights, but it never occurred to me to add an offset. Brilliant. This is a great tutorial.

    You’ve taken it one step further with the offset path which is really clever and helpful - thanks Jeff.

    You could also do a vertical slide, right? Would take a little more eye-balling, but it can work! Thanks! These are so good!

    Hi Jeff, how to do it if I want to combine this kind of text box with the auto resize text box from your other tutorial. So the text box could resize automatically yet still animated with trim path. Thanks

    • @7MinuteAETutorials
      @7MinuteAETutorials  Год назад

      The text box has an expression that matches the size of the rectangle path to the text characters. The trim path is using a stroke, and i'm not aware of an expression that will make the stroke auto-resize because there's not a "size" or other value to add an expression to, but rather a path, which doesn't have a size setting. I will definitely look into it. These are two options for creating a quick enclosure for your text, and there's actually a third way to do it as well - ruclips.net/video/e6M415NCF70/видео.html - These are different options to arrive at the same result, depending on which one you like the best.

    I have deleted the null object 4 times bc when I pair it to shape layer the whole box disappears. I checked the opacity. I moved it under the title. & nothing. I am a little confused. LOL AE can make you do that LOL. Thanks

    • @7MinuteAETutorials

      If you parent the layer to a null you'll get some wonky results because of the expression on the position of the layer - it's looking to be parented to the position of the text. When you mix expressions on position with nulls, you can get in trouble :) Let me know if that solves your problem. If you let me know what you're using the null for, I can probably give you a hand, too.

    • @7MinuteAETutorials
      @7MinuteAETutorials  Год назад +1

      If you're parenting the text layer to a null, then also parent the shape layer to the null. The shape's position will have the same exact position values as the text layer, so when you alter the text's position by parenting it to a null, the shape layer uses the VALUE of the text (if that makes sense). For example, without a null, the text has a position of 960, 540. When you parent the text box shape layer to the position of the text, it's also 960,540. However, when you parent the text to a null, its position becomes 0,0 - and so does the shape layer. Even though the text didn't move, it's position value changed by virtue of being attached to a null because it's using the null's relative position as its own. The shape layer, as a child of the text layer, is going to follow what the text's position says - 0,0. It's like the shape layer can't see the null - it's focus is the text layer and it will follow the values of the text layer no matter what. Does that help or make things more confusing :)

      Hi Jeff, I just went to the other video, and now I'll copy and paste the question here, it is a good one. Thank you for replying ! ...... -> 🚨 ⚠ Good morning Jeff ! where is the best place to ask you a question ? - Well I'll try here. With the new 2023 masking available ( 1 mask for multiple layers ) does this make the set matte function obsolete ? I have not found any info doing quite a bit of Googling. You are damn good with AE, so I hope you can give me some info on that - maybe a video is in order for that... oh and I have a really good idea for tutorial, something that I just can't figure out. Imagine this - You have some text... the text splits open in the middle, the top part goes up, the bottom part goes down, and AS it does this, text under that original text is revealed. I have tried this and it's just way too complicated, ( too may layers, too many steps ) and I am wondering if the new masking can accomplish this..... or is this a thing for set matte ( which I don't really get ... is this now an obsolete command ? ) - A video on this would be insane. You are so good at this type of thing. If you need more info on this animation thing, I'll explain a bit more. I hope you have time to even reply to this Jeff ! Thank you so much in advance !! 🙂

      @@FrostyTheBeerMan I think you're talking about the new matte (not masking) update - with one matte for multiple layers, right? If so, then yes - in my opinion - this makes set matte obsolete. There's no reason from what I can tell to use Set Matte anymore because this new feature does everything Set Matte could and, actually, even more. With Set Matte, there are issues with images and video layers being rasterized. You may have to precomp them then rasterize the precomp and all that. Now, the new matte feature is basically like putting a really advanced Set Matte right on the layer. So, yes, your instincts are correct! I need to re-read your proposed tutorial again and see what I can come up with. Off the bat, I would imagine you'd need at least 2 layers of text and one matte layer. You could alpha matte the first text layer and then invert that matte for the second text layer. And you could use the same matte for both - I do that sometimes when I need to reveal and hide something in the same place. Does this help?

      @@7MinuteAETutorials Good morning Jeff ! Just reading this now, Happy Saturday to ya ! Oh this helps a lot, I will try and replicate what you are saying here, but please, yeah if you have the chance, please do a little video on this. Also, maybe talk about the new matte feature vs Set Matte. I'm really happy that I kind of on the right track with my thinking, because set matte is just so confusing. I think I'm not alone here. Yeah, when I was playing with the new matte features I started to think... hmm this is like set matte but a bit more powerful... but am I right ? I need to ask Jeff, because well you just know your AE so well. Anyway, this new tutorial here ( this new video ) is awesome ! I've watched it a few times already, and going to grab a coffee and do what you're doing in this one, - wow, amazing how tools like the stroke and trim paths could be so powerful when one is creative like you. Yeah that is amazing ! Anyway thanks so much Jeff ! I do appreciate your time !! 🙂

    Could you use the expression to resize based on the length of the text for this way of creating the box?
