- The most requested video in the comments: Fisherman’s Wharf, is one of the city's biggest tourist traps . Souvenir shops and stalls selling crab and clam chowder in sourdough bread bowls used to be all over as do postcard views of the bay, Golden Gate and Alcatraz .But in recent years street conditions are eroding all the boutiques and eateries and visitors are met with rows of shuttered stores and boarded-up restaurants
In this video, I am walking at the heart of fisherman’s wharf , and I have to warn you, It’s not easy to watch . brace yourself for another eye-opening video.

What's happening to San Francisco and California isn't just sad, it's criminal.
It has to be intentional, no one could govern that poorly
@@riptide10x60 It is intentional but what is the plan??? sell America to the Chinese?
This could be a campaign ad against Newsom and dems
It’s still The fifth largest economy in the whole fucking world so they must be doing something right.
All cities have ups and downs some recover, some don’t.
Comparing Detroit to San Francisco, is like comparing apples to oranges.
San Francisco will be back.
Detroit will never recover.
All the people complaining how bad California is will never help make it better.
And even though many of the businesses are closed, how come there is so many goddamn tourist here then?? 🤷♂️🤷♂️
It’s all been intentional…

Thanks to Joe's invasion.
And to think there is a distinct possibility that Newsom may be elected president in 2028 is a terrifying, baffling thought.
California is literally bringing in more tax dollars, a higher gdp and a lower unemployment than the entire country, If you're gonna hate a state, atleast find a legitimate reason.
The Zionist puppets like Newsom, Trump, Biden and the fake congress are not elected but just installed after the fake election to make the voters think they had a choice.
If the Democrats ever nominate or elect a white male again they will have completely negated their whole platform.
Maybe four years sooner than that.

ya me too, but to see how they destroyed 95% of the Wharf is beyond heart breaking. It was healthy for 17 years I lived there, but policies went so bad to this.
From Canada, visited in 05 & 14. Told my kids to enjoy the pictures and memories as it shouldn't be on their destination list. 😢
Me too. Lived in Alameda 15 years. It was wonderful ...then. I don't even want to go visit now.
And Newsom is still calling California the model of the country
"An evil enemy will burn his own nation to the ground to rule over the ashes." attributed to Sun Tzu
Imagine the National horror of him in The Oval Office.
The communist model.
I read: Motel of the country. Which it is - and toilet.
Newsome telling, actually telling the

The majority of Californians voted for this... TWICE!
I bet it was election fraud cuz I and almost everyone I know from CA voted for Trump but what do I know.
True. And it is was done with smug satisfaction. I bet the long despised "fly over states" aren't this bad.
Nope its voter fraud.
You can't fix stupid.
Yeah, but I bet they can name some transgender activists. Where are your priorities??!!
Where are all the people in the comments desperately claiming Metal Leo was cherry picking streets to make San Francisco's decline seem worse? GONE NOW!!!! Legendary 100 year old restaurants GONE NOW!!! The pride of San Francisco, Fisherman's Wharf, BOARDED UP!!! If you still think San Francisco is doing just fine, then your mind is CLOSED NOW!!!
my wife and me are headed there middle of next month. I've tried to warn her. Instead this will be yet another expensive learning experience for her. Just expensive for me. If women only listened...............................
He is cherry picking. A lot of restaurants opened up / moved a few blocks south to North Beach, which is more lively than it was pre-pandemic. Also some places he claimed are "closed" are not closed, they just weren't open at whatever time he chose to film, for instance at 6:50 "this one also recently closed" no, that is Surisan, and it is very much still open (hence all the tables and chairs lol).
What are the official stats on economic situation in SF? Does anyone have a those numbers?
@@airops423 They all skipped out of a former tourist Mecca and moved to North Beach? I doubt it. I lived in SF for twenty years and, clearly, something drastic happened there. I know what that place is supposed to look like.
@@HazeOfWhearyWater Yeah, a lot of these businesses in Fisherman's Wharf, which exclusively rely on tourism because it's peak tourist trap that has zero appeal to locals, closed down a couple years ago during the height of the pandemic when tourism dropped to nothing. North Beach on the other hand is next door, appeals to both locals and tourists, and has had a ton of new activity over just the past couple years with tons of new bars, restaurants, shops, etc. opening up. For tourists there's also Pier 39, again right next door, which is overall a pretty vibrant tourist trap still.
At one time Californa was a state people dreamed of visiting. But now, it seems many are dreaming of leaving, or have left California. It's sad to see how far this once great state has fallen.
As a Canadian. I grew up thinking Everything was possible in California. My first trip to California was in the seventies. I was six. It was magical for a young kid like me. That experience sunk into my soul!
It hasn't fallen. It is being destroyed from within.
Californian pay a big price for not recalling Newsome in 2022.
California has one of the highest GDP on the planet, so Newsome is doing a lot right. Republicans ran away because they were told to by their party like a bunch of farm animals.
Most likely massive voter fraud. Newsom is not popular with most Californians.
It was rigged. Newsom had done a deal with the devil in order to win, citing the 66.6% of ballots that voted “no.”
they've tried twice! Shot down by local and state authorities they wouildn't even accept the petition
It’s the mayor who is totally useless. Why is Fremont or Lafayette are doing fine?
The loss of Alioto's and Fisherman's Grotto is an absolute travesty. San Franscisco has lost an important part of its history and culture. These are famous restaurants that served the elite. This is almost like burning down an art museum or setting fire to a national park. It's one thing to lose Jack in the Box and Walgreens but we are now losing the best parts of San Franscisco.
It’s heartbreaking, I used to go to SF at least once a year for convections, sometimes a second time just for a personal trip. Losing Alioto’s & Fisherman’s Grotto is just so sad.
The Elites no longer get served. Game over.
Thanks Biden, what a great job! Our economy is just thriving!! Wake up people!! Trump 2024;!
I live in Sydney. I've been to SF on maybe a dozen occasions up until 2014. Similarly, so with LA, and I viewed another RUclips showing 3rd Street was nearly deserted at 11am on a Friday morning three weeks ago.
Absolutely TRAGIC what Newsom, and those progressive gooses have done to Cali.
And the Buena Vista too. Cold rainy days need a good Irish coffee to brighten up your mood. So sad😢

Fifty years ago when I lived in the Bay Area, a favorite thing to do was to go down to Fisherman's Wharf, buy a crab to go, a loaf of sourdough bread and a bottle of good wine, walk to the park and have a feast! GONE NOW!
All fond memories. So many times there... I'm sad that my youngest child barely remembers it because she went there when she was a toddler and we just didn't get back. Now she can't ever see it like it was before. It BOILS MY BLOOD. This was all avoidable. To be honest, I was waiting for the video with Leo walking through the wharf area, and dreading the day he released it. Here we are now, it's released, and sure enough, GONE NOW!!!

Right behind the Tech industry (which is also leaving San Francisco) much of the city's income is derived from tourism, and one of its prime tourist attractions has always been Fisherman's Wharf. I wonder how many tourists from all over the world saved their money for a trip to San Francisco, only to be greeted by homeless drug addicts, disgusting and dangerous sidewalks, and shuttered businesses and attractions. Is their any doubt that they'll be spreading the word, far and wide, that San Francisco is no longer a vacation destination?
Is there any doubt...

Fisherman's Grotto was a treat for us when i was a child, as were Tarantino's, Castagnola's, and Alioto's. Crab cioppino, mussels and linguini, fettucine alle vongole. This one really hit me in the feels. At Tarantino's they knew our family, and gave us special service, always the best. In the 1950s and 1960s there was an old Italian man on the wharf with a hand-cranked penny-rolling machine and you could choose to have him roll your penny with am image of the Bay Bridge, the Golden Gate Bridge, the 1939 Treasure Island World's Fair, or the Lord's Prayer. Every night he lifted the machine into the back of his pick-up truck and took it home, and every morning he was there again. Through an odd set of circumstances, after he retired and another man bought the machine, i ended up owning it, and later i sold it to an antique penny machine collector. Yes, SF has always been shady AF. I live in Florida now, people do not realize what it's like to have to walk with pepperspray and a knife tucked in your boot in case you walk down the wrong block. Left officially in 2008
Lots of elegance. Lots of depravity: Ancient Rome, Sodom, Gomorrah...they are g o n e...
Man is there anything left in that dump? I feel bad for you all losing so much culinary history.
1925!
Our family took a vacation there in back 1999 and wow things have changed! I don’t think I would ever go there again.
Heartbreaking. Lived in CA my whole life. I never took my kids to SF because it was getting so bad. When Newsom won, we packed and left. I miss what CA should be, but leaving was the best thing we ever did. Shameful.
Imagine a world without “them”.
There will always be a "them". Who "Them" is just varies over time.
"Assigning blame" is as much a human trait, as death and taxes.
you mean the pronoun? he she, it , them...
The reptilians?? Yeah, They Live, we die.
@@shyviking Assigning? Dim 0 crats did it all.
Oy
Last Republican out of California please grab the flag!
Still living here and flying the flag.....it is terrible. only thing that I can make money on anymore is RUclips.
Good luck! Two of my coworkers moved here from CA recently. They just couldn’t take it anymore. Both were from around San Francisco.
Democrats hate the flag they’re allegiance is to the rainbow 🌈 flag
S.F is starting to look like Cuba I don't even think they know what a American flag is. I don't think I could find a American flag to grab on my way out and I sure as hell ain't grabbing a woke flag on my way out.
Will do.
I was stationed in Alameda in the early 90's, I cant even believe the state of the area now. We used to take BART all over San Fran, Oakland, Berkley, now i wouldnt even stop my car within 50 miles.
Gives new meaning to the term "boardwalk".
BOARDS, BOARDS, BOARDS, BOARDS.........Courtsey of DEMOCRATS
SF provides signs prohibiting sleeping in closed restaurants. Wow.
It was bound to happen with anyone in power . Don’t be fooled. It’s just the cycle of World power. Nobody stays on top forever. America hand their 100 year fun and hangover. Now it’s time for someone else. The GREEK empire. The ROMAN empire. The British rule , America etc. Your party is just over not because of the Democrats or Republicans.. it’s the cycle. Get it ?
yea buy stock in Home depot......selling all the boards for the glass.
I'm getting very Board.
Board Back Better
Speaking from a native-born and raised in SF, how pathetic this current administration and mayor. She's up for re-election and now she is blaming it mostly on the pandemic. She is a weak mayor at best. Vote her out. SF deserves so much better.
My husband and I were there visiting for our twentieth wedding anniversary trip to California. We will be married 41 years in august. This is heartbreaking to see. We saw Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. We rode the cable cars. San Francisco was a beautiful place. It’s just unbelievably sad. Who let this happen????
LIBERAL, WOKE DEMOCRATS ALLOWED IT TO HAPPEN.
I used to think you were exaggerating. My apologies. This breaks my heart. I visited sfo 4-5 times over the last 30 years (I am from Canada). I actually stayed at that Hyatt, ate in some of these restaurants, and bought crab in one of these stands. The wharf is starting to feel like south of Market. Insane. Thanks for what you do.
The souvenir shops should sell abandoned building ornaments that are tagged with graffiti and for lease signs.
ROFL. Would be very apropos, sadly.
Every time he says "GOOONNNEEE NOOOOW" I get a bit more depressed. Insane to think THIS is the USA.
California.
Democrats USA
I was shocked to see San Francisco a few weeks ago. Hypodermic needles on the street while some dude dropped his pants and crapped on the side of a building right in front of us. What a damn shame.
The Castagnola's sign, "Since 1916" pretty much says it all. I have no doubt that San Francisco will eventually come back - after rental rates come down to an affordable level.
It's just changing with the times. These were very Boomer type businesses and Gen Z HATES those. So everywhere you are, seeing the old Boomer Era businesses closing as that generation dies off and is replaced with modern Gen Z-centric businesses.
I used to live off Francisco St on a little dead end called Brett Hart Terrace. Rented a lovely home for $4K a month with a two car garage back in 2009. The view of the SF bay on Russian Hill was simply marvelous to behold. My wife and I on many an evening walked to Fishermen’s Wharf to dine at these establishments now
“G O N E N OW”. How sad.
Thanks Metal Leo for reporting the news. Since they locked up Julian Assange, your my next favorite journalist. Using an IPhone is brilliant journalism, pictures or video don’t lie.
In SF, all those trees on the streets if not watered regularly by government workers none would survive. For 3 months that summer in 2009 I lived in Russian Hill SF it never rained, I was told that was normal.
I was told to read a non-fiction book on why, Cadillac Desert. I did, fascinating read on why for millennia for near 6 months every summer in Cali it rarely rains yet the massive Redwoods thrive in this wild unchanging climate.
Metal Leo rock on!
Cadillac desert is a great book it explains how powerful people trap newly elected senators and Congress people the water wars of the West the decimation of the Ogallala water aquifer the destruction of the Owens Valley the “over allocation“ of the Colorado river water “cash register dams“ etc. a great read
Where I live $4000 a month would get you a 6-7000 ft mansion on 5 acres of land
Check out German in Venice. Same thing in Hollywood
$4k per month in 2009? An example of Overpriced SF real estate.
Redwoods are watered by fog in the dry months. The fog collects on their needles then rains down onto the roots. No shortage of fog on the north coast.
I never imagined such a wonderful and iconic place would end up like these.
I REMEMBER I WAS THERE IN THE SUMMER OF 1983, I WAS STANDING IN ONE OF THOSE SHOPS NEXT TO THE WATER AND I HEARD SOMEONE PLAYING THE SONG " ALWAYS SOMETHING THERE TO REMIND ME BY NAKED EYES. THAT 'S MY MEMORY OF FISHERMAN'S WHARP.
California was once a place you dreamed of visiting or even moving to become a resident. Now it's a nightmare for those that lives there and with deteriorating socio economic conditions, no one wants to go near it.
Watching these videos has me walking around saying things like "Gone, nooooowww," "CLOSED, noooowww," "For leeeeaaaassee" and "Boards, Boards, Boards." My wife is ready to slit my throat. 🤣🤣🤣
So sad to see....Me and some friends traveled from Denmark in the early 90´s, spending 14 days driving in Nevada,Arizona and California. And visiting San Fransisco was everything I dreamed about. It was truly a magnificent city with so many possibilities, driving down Lombard Street ,taking in the view from Coit tower and of course spending time on Fisherman´s Wharf...Heartbreaking to see what has become of this beautiful city
In about 200 years the whole place will be Starfleet Command HQ
I went there in 1999. And it was packed with people shopping. I can't believe what I am seeing.
