BEAUTIFUL! Greta Garbo was the persona of all things beautiful, mysterious, and elegant. Even as she aged she still retained regal elegance, a true beauty. To age so gracefully without plastic surgery and still had an amazing figure and lovely skin, she was always a great actress one to be remembered.
Cecil Beaton's photos of Garbo are so great, really. I especially like the one where Garbo is standing next to a window and the sunlight is reflecting on her forehead. Beaton, I wish I knew more about him.
You no what I marvel About Garbo looking at the photos here is that how she is able to meld into those NYC streets. No flashiness here as she walked from shop to shop purusing those antiques, paintings, and clothes and O yes and Dick Cavet one aftertnoon. Her smile in one photo you can see so much absolute joy in her eyes.
She is around eighty in most these pictures, on some a few years into her 80s and still on her legs. No makeup, no plastic surgery. In her last year she was seen using a cane when she walked outside, she got to be 85.
Miss Garbo didn't like being stared or looked at, but for us, people who value her as a human being, these pictures represent something precious, something that allows us to preserve her memory, her presence in this dimension from which she departed in 1990. ❤️
She should not have complained about being stared or looked at. Old people wish that someone would look at them, talk to them, take interest in their past accomplishments. She did not appreciate that even in old age she was someone people wanted to see and talk to.
I totally agree with you, most people crave for fame, she didn't; she didn't value fame. But having read some of her biographies I came to understand that what Miss G. really wanted was to be appreciated for her work as an actress and to be remembered as a human being. She said she wouldn't like to be forgotten. Being stopped in the streets by staring, unknown people was foreign to her mentality and we have to accept that.
Kat I really, really love the photo of Garbo where she is lifting the top of her beaver fur coat over her chin and her eyes light up and she has them smile for us. She is magnificent, yes!
@Jeriba Shigan Define a "Handful" A true recluse doesn't feel the need to go out for dinner ,buy art ,see friends etc... If she was a recluse then Tom Cruise is straight! Lmao! She wasn't a recluse per se she just wasn't always 'seen out ' because she learned the 'art' of blending in as she was going about her business...
It's outrageous to show the photos of Garbo as an old woman. Let us remember her as she once was, and always will be on the screen -- the most beautiful woman in the world.
For your information she was beautiful even at her elderly age....don't be so shallow it sounds ignorant. aging is completely normal and changing a bit is fine too ,nobody has to stay perfect for no one
I'm missing something !! WHAT is so damn beautiful, alluring, mysterious, about Greta Garbo??? A doorman in a building across the street from where she lived told Dick Cavett "...she looks like an old washer woman". He had that exactly right !!
john stewart That doorman is one of the many poor people whose stupidity is expressed by saying slander about who has shown its value She was Greta Garbo, he only a small and poor fool. Greta Garbo has aged without tricks, without dying her hair, without filling with botulinum. She had had the courage to be herself. Look at the stars, especially Hollywood's, often have faces distorted by plastic surgery.
*john stewart* Yes, incredibly, you *are* missing something!! Are you actually that dense?! The Garbo seen in these pictures is the middle aged and elderly Garbo, not the young and stunning looking woman whose aristocratic beauty graced the screen until her complete retirement from acting in 1941 at the age of 35. As your previous correspondent has pointed out, she did not as she advanced in age resort to the usual surgical measures and dying of hair in attempting to preserve her beauty and hold physical aging at bay, and rarely wore make up. The "washerwoman" effect was part of her strategy to avoid being recognised when she walked and shopped in New York. No place quite like YT for encountering negative comments of the outstandingly stupid and literally thoughtless variety....
Foolish doorman who probably never watched one single movie of the divine Greta Garbo, who was admired by both men and women alike. She was the persona of great brilliance and talent with a mysterious quality of great beauty and regal elegance.

What a fascinating lady. Thank you for uploading this.
I wish I could meet her , just let her know I was born, my great grandmother was Gretas cousin
The charm, beauty in old age and mystique stayed with Garbo until the very end.
BUT DO PEOPLE TODAY KNOW WHAT GARBO REPRESENTED IN CINEMA?..IT DOESN'T MATTER, SHE IS A LEGEND NOW
Youth and admired beauty is with us only for a season. Age or death is always the victor. Hardly a fair fight.
I've often wondered if she avoided "Customers " for sport. That's the people she noticed looking or following her.
I read somewhere that sometimes she would make a game of eluding "customers."
The queen of cinema

Too much haunting and hunting TORTURED the human need of freedom about a person who said "STOP IT, STUPID, STUPID WORLD!".
Unforgettable. Inimitable. The one and only.
♥ Garbo forever ♥
Time for all, one and too. We love you. Time does not have power over our love.
Que hermosa frase. "El tiempo no tiene poder sobre nuestro amor".
Greetings from Italy
The Divine Garbo
Really? Did her sh*t smell sweeter than yours ?
How do we know she just kept to herself.Actors and actresses are so damn overated .There just working class people like the rest of us.
For a “Recluse “ she certainly went out a fair bit 😉😎🤩😍

She wasn't recluse. She had friends, she was going out and travelling. She just didn't want to be in public view anymore.
Sargon 01 5000% Agree,Dietrich was more of a recluse than Garbo was .Certainly during the last years of her life.
