How to fix the Dark Universe 1. Stop trying to be the Avengers 2. Focus on the gothic horror element 3. Keep the budget under $50M and make it R-rated 4. Get Guillermo Del Toro and Fede Alvarez on board
5. Make sure each of your films is stand alone! 6. Have at least no more than one screenplay writer 7. Keep your storytelling more consisted 8. Don't heavy rely on big name celebrities to hold a film together 9. build your film series naturally and as you progress more then a crossover might be possible 10. Do not announce it as a cinematic universe before you even start one!
That's a shame. I feel the Universal Monsters are some of the greatest characters to ever exist, I feel a Universe with them in it could work, however, the wrong people were chosen to make The Mummy(2017) and it obviously backfired.
It'd be a great Universe to explore, tired of all the demon/ghost crap and it'd be refreshing scene from all the superhero movies that are out too, it's a shame really missed the boat, but they've been trying to do this since that Van Helsing movie way back, nothing new here.
Charlie Duncan You should do everything in your power to keep a good relationship (like say sorry to have broken with her this way, any bs will do) with her even if your story together failed. I'm not saying to get her back, just keeping everything cool between you two.
Universal says " Here is footage of a movie we want to promote. Give it an honest review... if you like it. If you don't and say bad things about it, we will bitch and cry to Google and they will pull your video!"
Filip Polák No! Fraser and his Mummy movie is what ruined the 2017 version. If anything, they should've looked at the Boris Karloff one. Or the Hammer Film Productions titles, featuring Christopher Lee.
@Flip Polak Tom Cruise was the problem with The Mummy and you know if they had somebody other than Cruise, I bet it would have done okay. Because think about it, people like you have said bring back Brendan Fraser and look at Spider-Man and how many times it has been rebooted, not one person has said bring back either Andrew Garfield or Tobey Maguire, as a matter of fact they gave praise to Tom Holland for doing a great job as Peter Parker and Spider-Man.
They were garbage. They were bland as fuck. Fourth film (with all shit it gets) was entertaining and had plot (and didn't throw established lore out of the window). Fifth was boring and sloppy. Ghosts looked cool, but they looked completely out of place after already established undead (who did look cooler).
Dark universe plans make Dracula say that does not count make mummy it sucks say fuck delay film no body cares well done your universe building is worse than DC
If you don't mind, the studio and Zack Snyder actually did plan for it, in fact, most of the Justice League was cast BEFORE Man of Steel came out. Gal Gadot was cast as Wonder Woman some time in 2012 (In one of the Wonder Woman special features, she clearly states that she was cast in 2012), Ben Affleck was cast around early 2013, before the announcement, Jason Momoa was cast long before any announcements, and so on...
Not true at all. They were planning a sequel to Man of Steel and then it was changed last minute due to Marvel's success at making a cinematic universe.
Actually was looking forward to seeing this. Maybe if they continued the Dracula Untold universe, The Mummy would’ve been this universes Incredible Hulk. Javier Bardem as Frankenstein? How perfect is that. Now we may not even get it.
Why were they jumping straight into bride of frankenstein and not just starting with frankenstein seems kind of weird to me but as far as the mummy goes i personally perfer the brendan fraser mummy trilogy
Kains Legacy it's also the most dullest decisions to make movies about.. I mean seriously.. a mummy reboot? And immeadetely follows up with ANOTHER undead zombie character.. And it's something as dull and unnapealing as "bride of frankenstein"? The title alone makes me go "ZzZzZz" They should have kickstarted the universe with a van helsing type of character, set in a gothic 1800s setting (imagine, a movie with a similar asthetic as the game Bloodborne)... that would make alot more sense for a "monster universe" of the old school monsters.. Hell, Even Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde would be a more interesting movie than the "mummy" reboot or another frankenstein movie.. They could make it into an interesting plot twist, by not revealing his full name and what the actual movie is about.. And instead make a movie about a Doctor who comes across a murder mystery about some apperantly "supernatural" serial killer. And then have the last portion of the movie, reveal his actual full name "jekyll", and the twist of HIM being the killer. And then having him trying to overcome his monster personality (alongside whatever side-characters there is) Would atleast be more interesting then Tom Cruise fighting a some mummy chick.
BBBHuey They've had a different Mummy each time so it wasn't a big deal that they changed this one. But they ran around too much. Should have stated in Egypt.
I think the final straw for me was when they released the cast photo for the Dark Universe before the Mummy officially came out. Even Sony wasn't that stupid with the TASM-verse. Sure the sequels/spinoffs were announced, but they didn't have a actors cast for them.
"Grab dat gem". I believe it's a reference to the arc plot of the Marvel movies (infinity stones) comparing it to a platformer video game, but I came in late so could be wrong.
How about instead of making the dark universe films action like the mummy. Make them actually horror like back then! It would probably be more successful if they were horror.
Azusa is best girl no they should have a massive budget for everything except the main monster, who'll be given the same resources they had in the originals. For most of the movies it'll be run of the mill modern blockbuster fare but the main monsters will all be portrayed exactly as they were in the 30s and 40s.
Nyk Carnsew No thanks. I want Frankenstein's monster to be the way he was in the original book. No film has ever done him that way. No movie has ever adapted the book to film without completely changing the story and characters. The book is so much better and the monster is far more sympathetic, intelligent, tragic and terrifying in the book.
well that's what happens when you try to make what the MCU did over tens of movies in 1 movie. the DCEU barely held on with 3, and DC has a far more interesting universe. p.s. i actually would still love a monster crossover movie
I really wanted this to be a thing. I could imagine a sequel to this where she escapes after Frankenstien went on a rampage inside Predigium (because they killed his bride) which causes Ahmanet's prison to be broken and she is freed. The new mummy would be a lot more vicious and blood thirsty and they would use much more horror elements. But now it will never happen. Oh well. It will always be a nice idea.
I liked the new Mummy. For one thing it's not a superhero movie, it's a monster movie and that's what I like most from Universal Studios. They started the shared universe first in movies.
What they should do is make another movie in the realm of "Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight." That was a good scary movie. If they want another universe to try then give that one a go. 😄🙏
The original Mummy succeeded based on good old fashioned action and adventure popularised by Indiana Jones with slightly more witty and comedic characters. Cruise is not a good fit for the vibe of the franchise, he just isn't. I could see from a kilometre away that it would not live up the the original's greatness.
Kurtzman directing was the kiss of death for this movie and this franchise. They should have given the job of relaunching the franchise to an experienced director.
I think an old fashioned, period piece version of the Universal Shared Universe would be pretty cool. It'd be a neat throwback to those old horror movies we all watched as kids, preserving the gothic style of their source material, and standing out from all the other modern action films. It'd be like if Van Helsing wasn't fucking stupid. Unfortunately these studios have a raging hard on for guns and sky scrapers, so that shit's not happening.
Oh thank god! If Universal is gonna make a cinematic universe, they need to do it RIGHT! For one, have all the movies take place in the 1800s or something!
Played The Mummy during a long haul flight on a plane, when it got to the part where she was being "mummified" alive but all they were actually doing was just wrapping her in bandages that's when I knew it was gonna be shit. Turned it off about 10 minutes in.
This is actually relieving. The Mummy was a horrible way to start a franchise and the Universal Monsters deserve so much better. Hopefully they'll start over in a few years.
This was the only one I was interested in seeing. Condon is a huge fan of the novel and the old Frankenstein films, having directed the great film GODS N MONSTERS. I’d have love to have seen his take on an updated version of the material but maybe this will get them to ax the idea of tying them altogether and just make some good old fashioned monster films for a more contemporary audience!
Take them to court James and tell them copyright laws don't apply to you on the basis that you are a goat.
Alan: The Most Uninteresting Man In The World A/The Goat
Cool profile pic, I loved the Spidey costume from Unlimited.
Nathan Weiss Both.
Alan: The Most Uninteresting Man In The World goddamnit this is one of the funniest comments ive read in recent memory
That a good point actually, I mean could you imagine the PR fallout from such a case
Well I don't think anybody saw this coming.
Said no one.
Aaron A China might have.... And Japan, who has a huge crush on Tom Cruise.... And that's about it.
he said stifling an ironic grin.

can't argue with that

Johnny Nunya well we clearly haven’t met me yet 🤭
Dark Universe? More like Dead Universe. Haha yeah, take that
Earth Fire Water Got em
Duke .... Nukem.
That wouldve genuinely been a better name for it
Should have ended the sentence like mason “haha yeah, take that you sonofabitch!” Lol
regularshow92 I'm more of a "tired but sarcastic James" type of man
The Dark Universe was one of those things that I wanted to work but pretty much everyone knew wasn't going to.
Anyone else getting a serious feeling of Deja Vu from this video?
Foo-Foo Cuddlypoops I think he had the first part at the end of one of his other vids. I had the same feeling too.
Anyone else getting a serious case of.... Wait what? Where am I?
dunkeydonkey I don’t watch the podcast and I’ve seen this clip before
Leaving a reply until someone figures out which video the clip was taken from.
Elie Baaklini it’s from the Luke’s green lightsaber video :p
The Mummy was so shit it caused me and my girlfriend (now ex, obviously)to break up. She wanted to stay and finish it so I left her and the movie
You left your girlfriend over a movie?
Ben Davis you sound just like her
M Mirlas no I left her during the movie, we were going to split anyway
Charlie Duncan You should do everything in your power to keep a good relationship (like say sorry to have broken with her this way, any bs will do) with her even if your story together failed. I'm not saying to get her back, just keeping everything cool between you two.
OverRatted
In before the copyright strike
Universal says " Here is footage of a movie we want to promote. Give it an honest review... if you like it. If you don't and say bad things about it, we will bitch and cry to Google and they will pull your video!"
Did Universal bitch and cry? Or did youtube just continue it's suicide because they didn't like how the US election turned out?
The Mummy is probably one of the most meeeeh movies ever made, but the whole idea behind it (and The Dark Universe) makes it embarassing to watch
if the made this the 4th movie from that other mummy franchise it would have been way beter
I agree. Bring back Fraser!!
Filip Polák No! Fraser and his Mummy movie is what ruined the 2017 version. If anything, they should've looked at the Boris Karloff one.
Or the Hammer Film Productions titles, featuring Christopher Lee.
Filip Polák I liked it. They need to bring back the Creature from the Black Lagoon, he's one of my favorite monsters
I had a feeling the Dark Universe was going to end before it even got started.
Definitely gonna cancel the dark universe
Yup. They should've gone for an origin story for Dr. Jekyll as their next film instead of "bride of frankenstein".
Alexander Inget yeah he was probably the coolest part of the mummy
Fun fact. Dr. Jeckyll/Mr. Hyde is my favourite monster.
Xander M he's definitely one of the best
The universe was dead on arrival
Mission Impossible: The Mummy was the blandest action/adventure film since the last "Pirates"
MuserShadeRoom I fell asleep
They were garbage. They were bland as fuck. Fourth film (with all shit it gets) was entertaining and had plot (and didn't throw established lore out of the window). Fifth was boring and sloppy. Ghosts looked cool, but they looked completely out of place after already established undead (who did look cooler).
Dr. Eggman I'm sorry, are you missing out the first PotC movie, Curse of the Black Pearl?
Tom Brearley-Smith What do you mean?
Dr. Eggman I was meant to say Curse of the Black Pearl wasn't garbage.
Dark universe plans
make Dracula
say that does not count
make mummy
it sucks say fuck
delay film
no body cares
well done your universe building is worse than DC
DC is worse since they didn't even plan for their first film to be a part of a cinematic universe.
RadioYeh not true
Not true at all. They were planning a sequel to Man of Steel and then it was changed last minute due to Marvel's success at making a cinematic universe.
Goldstar Productions It is true. DC may be rushing towards it but they definitely planned for Justice League pre Man Of Steel
Dark Universe is dead...
(puts on Thor's voice) "YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" :-)
In other news, water is wet
Nexturz only 1/3 of it though
Mr. Sunday Movies and Maso's vids just make my day. Thanks guys!
easy now dude, universal will ask you take this down :')
IKR?
Ayyy David Byrne cameo 👍
I like to think that people who don't know that clip will be freaking out. It is kind of nightmare fuel.
All these studios need to stop. It wasn't their vision, it was Marvel's vision. Get your own vision and stop trying to copy Marvel.
Press F to pay respects
Good one!👍🏼
Ethan Hogg f in for fuck
how about Ctrl-W instead
You got me, Phil.

Let the flaming husk of the Dark Universe be a warning to all movie companies: don't sell us a connected universe before you make a good movie first.
Good luck with the copyright claims, you guys. I love the channel and hope for more.
I apreciate the "THREE" thing at 1:53. Good editing
Actually was looking forward to seeing this. Maybe if they continued the Dracula Untold universe, The Mummy would’ve been this universes Incredible Hulk. Javier Bardem as Frankenstein? How perfect is that. Now we may not even get it.
I love finding new movie review channels!
Why were they jumping straight into bride of frankenstein and not just starting with frankenstein seems kind of weird to me but as far as the mummy goes i personally perfer the brendan fraser mummy trilogy
My guess is the story would be about the Bride being created by the Monster (who was named Frankenstein after his creator), then rebelling.
A Mummy movie with a woman mummy. And then a Bride of Frankenstein movie? Sounds like they were trying to copy Ghostbusters 2017.
BBBHuey ya I was getting a kind of sjw vibe from that too
Kains Legacy it's also the most dullest decisions to make movies about..

BBmetalhead04 The idea of Johnny Depp playing The Invisible Man almost made me have a stroke. Ugh.
@@katiebayliss9887 I HOPE THIS BETTER BE GOOD.
Man I read this title as the Marvel Universe is dead, Jeez, I need to go back to sleep and then try this again
What does Mason always say at the end? "Grab that gym"?
"Grab dat gem". I believe it's a reference to the arc plot of the Marvel movies (infinity stones) comparing it to a platformer video game, but I came in late so could be wrong.
Yes! Now DC can finally make Matt Ryan the DCEU Constantine!
Never gonna happen. He already belongs to the Arrowverse.
Hunter Zolomon A good choice would be Colin Farrell, Ewan McGregor or Eddie Redmayne.
Hunter Zolomon A good choice would be Colin Farrell, Ewan McGregor or Eddie Redmayne.

Love you guys, step one, I do the podcast and all that. My only issue is this; it it aSSume or aSHume? LOL keep up the good work.
How about instead of making the dark universe films action like the mummy. Make them actually horror like back then! It would probably be more successful if they were horror.
I think Universal and Bill Condon are working on it and they want the people to be happy with horror films, Tom Cruise was the problem with The Mummy.
With or without cruise this film series was doomed from the beginning!
The tears shed over this news can dry eyes to deserts.
0:25 Frankenstein's Significant Other('s monster) (2022)
Mr Sunday Movies v Hollywood.
I'd watch a weekly courtroom drama about that.
Universal needs to sit down.
Should of started with "Monster Squad" then their origins from it.
Sees title
pretends to be shocked
Why don't they make low budget horror movies based on the originals? More money for them, better movies for us.
Azusa is best girl no they should have a massive budget for everything except the main monster, who'll be given the same resources they had in the originals. Mr Sunday movies we got your back
Who is the guy with the gigantic suit at the end of the video?
David Byrne of the band Talking Heads:

The thing is, I want it to succeed.
Will you guys be doing a supposedly cancelled Justice league movie cartoon short like the BvS or Worlds Finest you guys did

Don't be too bothered by the copyright strike, I think everyone knows its of questionable quality;)
Wasn't going anywhere in the first place, maybe they can save if they make it to netflix release
When I saw the thumbnail I thought you meant all the “dark” films that came after the dark knight that are really getting old
About time. Bring back Brendan Freiser
Stick to Star Wars.
Bring back Boris Karloff.
Fraser lost his star power.
Where is that us that oversized suit from? Is that a song?
I already heard this on the podcast but still gonna watch it 😂👌🏾
What is the video of the guy dancing in the suit from?
The Dark Universe Cinematic Universe?!? Nooooooo
Don't worry it's all over!
James, after you sent the email saying you have to take me to courti sincerely hope you leaned back in your chair and said "The game is on"
Lmao where is that clip with big suit from
Thank the Dark GODs, cause The Mummy was a tragic failure.
I-Is that live Talking Heads footage of David Byrne?
well that's what happens when you try to make what the MCU did over tens of movies in 1 movie. the DCEU barely held on with 3, and DC has a far more interesting universe.
p.s. i actually would still love a monster crossover movie
DjMaffi But DC got up on their feet.
I think that Universal will make adjustments.

I liked the new Mummy. For one thing it's not a superhero movie, it's a monster movie and that's what I like most from Universal Studios. They started the shared universe first in movies.
Martin Guzman It felt nothing like a monster movie.
More real world spy tradecraft and geopolitics from MrSundayMovies, please.
After going through all that effort of making a logo

any box for this week .??
hey mr sunday movies for the next weekley planet of a another video do one for gremlins 3
It could be awesome if they just put branden's mummy as foundation for this universe, do it in 20th century as a background might be great..
It was dead the moment they brought Tom Cruise on board
Richard Burrows No, it was dead when they gave him creative control.
It was dead when the studio thought it was a good idea for Alex Kurtzman to spearhead their universe and direct their first film in this franchise
+DriveThru The original Mummy was made in 1932!!!!! Please don't confuse it with the 90s reboot.
Imagine this is copyright stricken too
U just made a video about the mummy. Strike 2 and a half???
Where do you want me to put his when I'm done?
Does anybody know that Frankenstein was the doctor and not the monster?
Yo I got some squirrels running on my roof and it's scaring the poo out of me. I need help. Because I can't control my poo.
Did they even watch the old Universal Monster franchise from the 30's, 40's, and 50's?
Getting Alex Kurtzman to run this initiative was such a stupid fucking idea this guy kills every movie he touches
Hopefully he won't direct any other films and Universal should have horror directors such as Sam Raimi do The Dark Universe.
There you go!
David A is he related to Blur A.?
do a Clipless Review of Justice League.
Oh thank god! If Universal is gonna make a cinematic universe, they need to do it RIGHT! For one, have all the movies take place in the 1800s or something!
How can it be dead if it was never alive?
Played The Mummy during a long haul flight on a plane, when it got to the part where she was being "mummified" alive but all they were actually doing was just wrapping her in bandages that's when I knew it was gonna be shit. Turned it off about 10 minutes in.
if its really cancelled that makes that cast photoshoot with all those big name actors even funnier
This is actually relieving. The Mummy was a horrible way to start a franchise and the Universal Monsters deserve so much better. Hopefully they'll start over in a few years.
Bloody hell, here we go. Well done Universal
Oh no!! Not the Dark Universe, I was sooo looking forward to that!
Said noone ever.
They tried it with wolfman. Then they tried it again with dracula untold. Then they tried it again again with mummy.
Bit late but I died laughing at the David Byrne footage.
Is this a reupload
No need for that bro :/
