The Piafang Gate was a gift to people of Boston from the Taiwanese government with two Chinese proverb inscriptions, everything under the sun belongs to the people, A good person is loyal honest and polite
Exactly. It’s actually from Taiwan government, or the so called Republic of China (ROC) government, and that’s why the flag hanged on the gate is the flag of ROC instead of PRC.
In recent years china town has become a popular place for Vietnams and Cambodian migrants. Even today it continues to serve recently arrived immigrants from east Asia.
On a Friday Fall night,we had dinner on Washington St...We tried entering one of the popular restaurants but it was a full house so we dined across the street...Came out satisfied!
Heehee, my favorite was actually this at-the-time-makeshift looking food stand more in some back alley spaces for the workers, when I was a bike messenger I'd often get a little of my favorite lo mein in town from a nice lady who couldn't pronounce my name. :) Kinda wonder if it's still there. At the time they seemed to be renovating the place as they went that particular summer, so I don't even know the name. :)
I remember there were upstairs eateries and restaurants where you could get authentic Cantonese and I assume other Chinese food because this was the early 90s and Chinese and Southeast Asians were immigrating into Boston and many dwelt there or opened businesses there. Chinatown of course grew and started to change the Combat Zone, which today has no combat left. 😉😁😏
There are rumors they are working on one in Detroit. There is a 142 acre empty land located near a city named Ferndale. In which the part of Detroit borders the suburbs. There is pretty huge Asian population throughout Oakland County. But Detroit is going to need some time to prosper again.
