It is really nice, but it's also worth noting that we have received huge funding from the EU - we of course had to have good plans and some funding of our own, but a lot of infrastructure was 50% or even 75% funded by the EU.
That was EU's investment into building a new strong economy in this area to strengthen the whole alliance and boost productivity, but a lot of ordinary people benefit from those high-level long-term policies without knowing how lucky we are. Many of the countries in Europe where people are bashing the infrastructure didn't get funds or even have negative net gain in direct payments to the EU, but this is all towards speedrunning the development of the whole continent therefore they fund it for now. And it works :)

Warsaw it not that liveable - when you live on metro line - yes - but there only 39 stations. Plus half of year you have smog and polluted air. And cost of metro maintenance is already a pain for car-loving right-wing folks demanding to cut spending on public transport. The reason it is nice is because it is small and no one started cost cutting on it yet. But eventually it will happen and then it will look the same as elsewhere.

Unfortunately our government does not really support the Border Guard and politicians have been caught lying many times. The brave Border Guard is fighting not only against illegal immigrants but also against some Polish media and activists who come to the border trying to help these bandits get into Polish territory.
The situation in Poland is currently OK but some people are trying their best to change it. Recently there was even an idea to pay illegal immigrants to leave the country just like in Sweden. Fortunately the idea was rejected relatively quickly after people's reaction but this only shows that the government is increasingly willing to accept all illegal immigrants.
Sorry for my poor English but I wanted to write it somehow.

Yes the level of safety in Poland is much higher than that of the UK. Regarding prices the Polish average wage is approximately 1/2 of the UK average wage but the price of a day ticket in Warsaw is 1/4 the price of its London counterpart. So its 1/2 the effective price for Poles as it it for Brits even taking into account the disparity in income.

Thank you for "like". I remember also that soon after the London Underground I had to navigate around the NYC subway and although it was fine, my subjective feeling was the London tube was easier to get around and cleaner as well. The only critical remark towards London was it was then closing relatively early for night but perhaps that's why it was cleaner than NYC. By the way, LA subway was quite unusual at the time I was there , in the sense , in comparison with NYC subway, checking a passenger on entry and exit, LA subway felt like not being interested in checking a passenger at all. Perhaps they were hiring people checking random or all passengers while already in the trains.

Each time when I passed these doors next to ticket validation I was afraid they'll kill me, they shut so suddenly and heavy full-metal tiny spaces. Also their printed, one time tickets are stupid. I placed it in my pocket, next to my cellphone, after checking in on train. Then 1h drive to Disneyland. Then I couldn't exit the station, because they validate it on exit, there was no human worker, and the ticket was magnetic!!! It got demagnetized by my cellphone and it didn't work to get out. My husband (he had his ticket in wallet) run around whole station to find help, we were stuck on 2 sides of these doors for 45 minutes until he found someone who let me pass.

As far as I know, Tesco has since disappeared from Poland altogether.

1:22 Actually, non of these are functional anymore, not that they have ever been. Some parts of the plans that Warsaw’s metro should be also an atomic shelter had been implemented back at the 80/90s however due to the lack of funds and also collapse of the Soviet Union, thus, a reduced risk of a nuclear war, the plans have been cancelled and for example, at the ursynow metro station only the metal gates that he's talking about have stayed.

In Prague, we don't have any barriers and that is how it should be everywhere, they removed barriers in 90s and reason? Except unification to one public transportation integrated system another reason was that people were jumping over it or using enterance for disabled people, when you don't want to pay, you will always find a way and gates just bother paying customer and most of nothing people have month or year pass anyway.

I saw also families leaving behind all the KFC or MCD empty packs after consumption. I think the blue line was the most messy. Anyone who reads this - tell your children to take off their shoes if they want to put their feet on the seats, then the trains, busses will be normal, as in Poland.

I can see a strong one-sidedness among the comments - Great Britain as a superpower has been declining since World War I which has only recently accelerated.
In Poland, we are currently in many aspects the economic situation of Western countries in the early 1990s - with different dynamics and bases of "wealth", with a shortage of workers and the need to look for labor from the East - such as Germany or the UK from the former Eastern bloc.
    With a few differences:
    - Poland very easily assimilates progressive trends and the broadly understood woke culture - the same one that led the UK to where it is today
    - we live in the era of rapid information exchange - a double-edged sword
    - we do not have strong domestic companies-corporations in business or technology - we are still a German-American economic colony with an admixture of other countries
-We have a war abroad and we are weak millitary
-we do not have a strong currency based on our own bank
-the average Pole still has less accumulated wealth than the average Western citizen
Great Britain is falling, but in my opinion, Poland will fall faster and more painfully in the next 15 years, mainly due to the lack of companies that can "bring money" to Poland from other countries - when corporations stop being lucrative in Poland, they will simply withdraw and deepen the crisis of the economy. based on Western capital.
Let's enjoy it while it's good.

    • @GallivanterDom
      @GallivanterDom  Месяц назад

That's actually a really interesting take that I haven't heard before.
Hopefully you're wrong and Poland doesn't fall at all, but you may be correct. I think that due to a lack of mass immigration Poland may fare better than expected as it has built the infrastructure necessary to be self-sufficient in terms of upskilling its population.
      Only time will tell.
      Thanks for the comment.

There are a total of 5 models of trains in Warsaw.
1st is Russian serie 81 which can be divided into two subparts. A) Metrostyle (81-717.3 and 81-714.3) and B) Classicstyle (doesn't have metro logo on the front, 81-572, 81-573 or 81-717P and 81-714P aka. the polish version)
2nd is Alstom Metropolis 98B, kinda simmilar to US trains
3rd was Russian serie 81 remodel from 2009 which has the same model name (81-572, 81-573 or 81-717P and 81-714P)
4th is Siemens Inspiro which was the first articulated train in Poland
