I have worked for a start up, but they were just out of the "start up" phase. Another start up reached out to me recently. I am excited to be apart of something new but there are pro's and cons a major one is not having a 401k match, the major lack of HR policies and structure as well, that takes time to develop. And start ups will change from being lenient to transitioning into a more stringent company.

Well said! I’ve been a recruiter for both small and large tech companies and have always explained the pro’s and also transparent con’s to my friends.

Really good job at hitting key points. Great video!!!
I worked at a startup for two years and great experience. I would add tho that if you want to make the transition from startups to corporate it can be a bit difficult. I have felt as if some recruiters don’t like that you don’t have a more focused skill set, but just my experience 🤷🏽‍♂️

At companies like Apple, you typically don't get options but RSUs

Working at a startup (kind of) and used to work for a large corporation before - my experience is quite the opposite. At the corporation had job security, decent salary, stock options, promo once per year, but at the same time lack of mentorship.
At the startup salary is way better, still job stability and normal work hours, but no stock options, no promo opportunities (there is nowhere up to go), still no mentorship

So if you go to work at the pre-seed stage, you're not making any money - you're paying money (as an investor).

Hey I am from another video, one you had about retirement plans( I figured you wouldn't see a comment on there because its a couple of months old). Sorry if this is irrelevant now but I just had a quick question. If I opened a roth IRA now and in the future I get a job with a company that allows you to have a 401k or roth 401k am I able to transfer or like rollover my funds from the IRA over to the 401k? You talked about rollover from a 401k to IRA but not the other way around.

Hey Levi - You can roll over your IRA into a 401k assuming the 401k plan has language allowing it to accept this type of rollover. Roth IRAs can only be rolled over to another Roth IRA

I’d do some research with your employer.

Interesting! I have an interview with a startup company. I looked them up and they are at Series B funding.
Not sure if this means a startup is doing good or if that means they are high risk? Also, do startups tend to pay well when they reach Series B funding?

I know this is late but series B funding is still a 2nd round of funding the VC or investor is doing. It doesn't necessarily mean the startup will fail but it is at risk. I think you shouldnt worry if the investor is pouring a 2nd round of funding. If it was series H or something then it would be established but the company is at risk but very uncertain. The amount matters as well.
