Antarctica: The Sinking of the Explorer

In November 2007 I had gone to the Peninsula to drop off our kayaks; the day after Thanksgiving we woke to the news that Antarcticas very first tourist ship, The Explorer, had hit ice and was sinking.

I was with the Nordnorge on land those days. Still strong memories of the rescue operation.

she hit 3rd year ice which is a lot harder than 1st year ice.

To me, this was much like the Titanic.
