      China failed in the battle, but succeeded in strategy. The Battle of Shanghai prevented China from being destroyed as quickly as France in the all-out war with Japan. China turned Japan's envisioned blitzkrieg into a protracted war. After the outbreak of the Pacific War, at least 50% of the Japanese army was trapped in the Chinese battlefield and was not withdrawn to fight the Allied forces in the Pacific battlefield. This is the contribution made by China (Republic of China) to the victory of the Second World War!

      @@liuyiyang1996 In the west, we are all taught that America won WW2, it's shown in all our media, films, video games, schools and many books. However over the last decade many in the west have realized and accepted that America was a sideshow in Europe and that Russia did the heavy lifting to beat Germany. American's coped by saying, "well at least we still have the pacific theater". And now we find out the Sino Japanese War was absolutely huge and took up 80% of all Japan's resources, it's beginning to look like America was just a sideshow in the pacific too lol. America was just a sideshow to the entire war who turned up late and took all the credit.

    In fact, the Chinese Communist Party rarely participated in the war against Japan. They mainly developed their strength secretly in non-war areas. The Chinese Kuomintang took the responsibility of resistance. After the end of World War II, the Chinese Communist Party immediately defeated the battered Kuomintang.

The IJA 11th army suffered 4,000-5,000 casualties in the first battle, 7,000 casualties in the second battle, and 7,000-8,000 casualties in the third. The Chinese believed that if they surrounded and provoked the Shanghai Naval Landing Force, Japanese reinforcements would attack from the center of Shanghai and Chinese would repel the reinforcements with pillboxes and heavy machine guns.
    However, reinforcements of the Japanese army landed at from the north coast of Shanghai, therefore the Japanese landing changed the main Shanghai battlefield.
    By confining many foreigners to the Shanghai concession and making the battlefield the "outskirts of Shanghai," the Japanese military likely intended to hide the atrocities.

      No, Japan had already invaded China in North China in 1937, and the war had already begun. The Nationalist government attacked Shanghai to attract the strategic direction of the Japanese army to the coast, to prevent the Japanese army from encircling China from the west like the Mongols did. It was to exchange space for time, and at the same time, as a Chinese, I was grateful for the help of the United States.

    • @ステラリスおじさん
      @ステラリスおじさん Месяц назад

      @@yuansishen I guess that’s hindsight.” Chiang Kai-shek declared the recovery of the ``Shanghai Concession'' with the political purpose of clearing up Chinese past shames. And Chiang Kai-shek wanted first chinese victory no matter what. He hoped for a major victory by annihilating the 6,000 sailors defending the Shanghai Concession with 70,000 Kuomintang soldiers. However, that plan collapsed when the 40,000-man Shanghai Expeditionary Force successfully landed on the north coast of Shanghai.

    • @yuansishen
      @yuansishen Месяц назад

      @@ステラリスおじさん You may not understand the situation at that time. In fact, since Japan began to invade Northeast China in 1931, Chiang Kai-shek has been preparing to deal with Japan's attack on inland China. He may not be a good politician, but he is an outstanding military strategist. He knows that there is no possibility of winning the battle with the Japanese army in Shanghai, because the firepower of a Japanese warship is better than the sum of all Chinese warships at that time. But if Japan follows the original plan to encircle China from the west of China along the Mongolian attack route in the 13th century, then China will definitely fail. Therefore, changing the direction of the Japanese army's attack, retreating to the mountainous areas in western China, and waiting for the international community, especially the United States and Britain to join in, is the only way for China to survive.
      Finally, I believe that there will never be a war between China and Japan, nor with any other country. Everyone can live like real neighbors, drink beer together, and talk about girls together

      I definitely agree that WW2 started in 1937 and not 1939 which is a western centric date. Though you can also kinda argue it started in 1935 or 1936 with Abyssinia and Spanish Civil War, considering Abyssinian War basically reignited in WW2 anyways with the underrepresented East African Theater of WW2. Meanwhile Spanish Civil War had Germany trying out all it's new tactics and weapons there, as well as Italy and the Soviets and even many Brits went to fight there and that war lasted till 1939. You also have Khalkin Gol which really should be included in WW2 as it's Japan vs Soviets and it started only a few months before WW2 and went right into WW2 and finished up while Poland was midway through it's invasion. In fact the Soviet army went straight from Khalkin Gol right into Poland without a single days break.

      하지만 현실은 상하이 전투후에 도성작전으로 난징대학살을 자행하고 3.1절 대학살, 마닐라대학살 기타등등... 이런 형태로는 민심장악이 힘들지.
      목택동이나 홍수전, 삼국지의 오두미도, 일본전국시대의 일향종처럼 민중들에게 뭔가 이익을 잘 베풀어 줄 필요가 있어.
      삼국지의 오두미도와 일본전국시대의 일향종은 현대에도 그 명맥을 유지하고 있다고 하네.

    Chiang Kai shek ordered the retreat too hastily; resulted in a total capitulation of the Chinese defense force in Shanghai, sending it into a chaotic retreat. The concrete fortified Hindenburg line which was constructed with German assistance in the 1930s to protect Nanjing was totally abandoned by the retreating Chinese. Which was a shame.

      The problem is that Chiang Kai Shek should have authorized the retreat in early October as was planned. However, the League of Nations announced that they would hold a conference to talk about ending the war while President Roosevelt gave a speech in support of China right before Chiang Kai Shek is about to do so. Thus, he instead ordered the freshly-arrived Sichuan and Guangxi armies alongside his exhausted Central and Guangdong armies to launch a massive counterattack. The 10-day counterattack resulted in very heavy losses for the Chinese and Iwane Matsui immediately ordered an offensive after, causing multiple defence lines to be breached as the those had been disrupted by the initial counterattack.

      @@CentCent69-zv8vq The order of the retreat was not issued properly. There were plans for certain Chinese units to perform rearguard actions to cover the retreats of other Chinese forces. However, some units were informed of the retreat, while other units were kept in the dark. Some divisions only realized that there is a general withdraw when they saw adjacent divisions began to withdraw. This created panic, which turned a suppose orderly retreat into a total capitulation. Many nationalist army commanding officers retreated before telling their own units to withdraw. Adding to the fact there were many collaborators working for the Japanese as informers. Generalissimo Chiang falsely believed that the league of Nations and the Germans were negotiate with the Japanese on China’s behalf. And you are right, this delayed the general withdraw of the Chinese forces. Even then, Chiang still held hope by ordering a regiment of the 88th division to hold the Shanghai warehouse at all cost in order to show the international community that Chinese forces are still fighting in Shanghai.

    The entire Second Sino-Japanese War actually began with Japan's invasion of Manchuria during the Mukden Incident in 1931. Throughout the war, the contributions of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) were minimal, largely due to the "7-2-1" strategy. This strategy allocated 70% of their efforts to expanding their own power, 20% to dealing with the Nationalists, and only 10% to resisting Japan. As a result, the war was almost entirely fought by the Republic of China under the leadership of the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT). Many in the West have been misled by Communist propaganda, mistakenly believing that the war was fought by the CCP, which is a grave and foolish misconception.

    To explain the circumstances, the Shanghai Naval Landing Force guarding Japanese embassy was surrounded, the ”Shanghai Expeditionary Force” dispatched from Japan landed at Wusong Pier on the north shore of Shanghai, ”Shanghai Expeditionary Force” attacked from the side of the Chinese Nationalist army's counter-encirclement line of "the Shanghai Naval Landing Force".The Chinese Nationalist army were outflanked by "the Shanghai Expeditionary Army"(not "the Shanghai Naval Landing Force")and gradually retreated, and after Hangzhou Bay was taken by the Japanese 10th Army, they retreated to Nanjing.
