From what I understand, though, the House republicans need to establish a legislative purpose for needing to have them and they haven’t even tried to do that yet. According to legal protocol, the DOJ is part of the executive branch. As such, executive privilege applies. It’s about separation of powers. The DOJ gave the republicans reasons for withholding the recordings. Still, the House decides to hold Garland in contempt when House republicans have not established a legislative purpose for needing them. They seem to be going through a farce in order to appease their base. Why would Biden want to give even a tiny piece of meat to a pack of rabid dogs?
