I echo your love for single player experiences over any other genre of gaming. I am 51 and have been gaming since 1982. I have watched and experienced the evolution of gaming through every console generation and have played EVERY AAA game ever made. Battle Royale and every other type of MP have never been as fun to me as playing through a great story, with right atmosphere and immersion. RDR and RDR2 nailed this in spades. I enjoyed the first game way more than the second probably because it was new and different than anything else out there at that time. Also, I think the writing and characters were more interesting and the whole cowboy schtick with awesome horseback riding blew me away. The first game in an epic franchise is always the best, simply because it's the first. I still love RDR2 of course because it's more of the first X10.
I played this after playing RDR2 and found myself as invested in this story as that one. This game is addictive, fun, free, and special. It shows its age (considering the absolutely horrid controls at times), but it was super cool. I think the Mexico missions and Blackwater missions were some of the best in the whole game.
i agree with this. replaying it now after i had just finished replaying rdr2 the controls are so wonky sometimes. i wanna pull my hair out riding my horse in this game.

Just finished it today and was hoping this review appreciated every single detail this game had to offer!! I loved it and cant wait to finally start RDR2 Only got half way through the game on the 360 when it originally came out until BO2 took over the scene and never went back to finish it .. glad I did💯
My all-time favorite game. I love RDR2 as well but I prefer RDR overall. I remember being absolutely blown away by this game back in 2010. It was everything I ever wanted in a video game. I preordered this and Alan Wake and picked them both up on the same day (they released on the same day IIRC). Alan Wake was a fun game but I couldn't put RDR down once I started playing it. Oh, how I wish I could go back in time to May 2010 and play this again for the first time.
Dude thank you for doing such a thorough review and not spoiling the game! I played this game years ago when it first came out when I was in middle school. Since then I've virtually forgotten everything aside from a few distant memories. I decided to replay RDR2 and have been absolutely enamored all over again. I decided that I'm gonna jump back in to RDR1 once I finish up this second playthrough.
Such a classic game! I’m actually replying it now and now hearing they might do a remake to this game so it would be even better with Red Dead 2’s graphics and gameplay
Now that you mention it the character models and faces are really well done, almost never did I think they look goofy or outdated aside from the characters that are intentionally ugly. This game is a gem and was ahead of it’s time
Played RDR1 When released was my best game ever, then RDR2 Arrived and blew me away all over again. Went back to 1 to play the complete story (PS3) and although still great/fun it's so simple and empty. RDR2 convinced me I was in a living/breathing world which is probably in my mind what 1 was like 10 years ago. To me 1 is the foundation and 2 is all the stunning architecture you see above. 2 built on the greatness of 1 and never looked back.
The fact this game hasn't had a REMASTER on PS4 is criminal. I played this game when it first came out and 100% it without no internet I just loved the HELL outta it and it remains the best franchise from rockstar.. undead nightmare was awesome too and I also 100% that and I've 100% rdr2 I honestly couldn't go back to GTA after the first red dead redemption and when I did I found it to be meh... the first red dead redemption is absolutely amazing.. and it surprises me that rockstar didn't even think it would do that well. Red dead redemption 1 is a very special game. Great review! 👍
This is a great review, I never got what people said about the gameplay being repetitive and that all rockstar games are clunky and that like I love everything about these games. I always know what I'm getting and I love every minute of it. This is my favorite game series I have all 3 of them( if you includ red dead revolver) and there all really good
Good review man! I played the undead nightmare expansion when it first came out and it changed my life, aswell as the online Now 10 years later I just bought the game and I’m going to be playing the story mode for the first time and I’m so hyped, you totally sold me on rebuying it after getting burned out on RD2 :)
I played RDR1 back in the day but never beat it. I played RDR2 and beat it, now I'm coming back to RDR1 and it's amazing how the story keeps going. Like it was amazing for the fans to see how the villains started out, it's pretty awesome me to see where they go.
This is the first game I got for my 360 and loved every minute I then bought a series X and the first game I bought for it was RDR1 and I still to this day love this game just subbed 💯 amazing video
So I’m playing this game for the first time (on Xbox One X)…it’s been sitting unopened in my gaming cabinet for years. It was recommended to me at a game shop years ago when I told the clerk that I absolutely loved Fallout: New Vegas, and I kind of forgot that I bought it. I started playing it for about an hour yesterday and started to get a little bored/frustrated with the pacing. I’m so glad I watched this review, because you inspired me to push through the kinda slow start and see what the game has in store! This is truly a glowing recommendation for RDR1 and you’ve got me excited about it again ☺️ I want to play through it before playing RDR2 so I can understand the world and the characters better, and make the experience more immersive.
I agree this one is better. Mostly because the gameplay features in 1 had more of a fun factor to them (Cheating in poker for example.) but 2 is still my favorite.
@X_Milky yes, they were stranger missions. you met strangers and you help them, each and every sidequestion was unique and doesnt have to add to the main event, because its a side mission. i feel its better than rdr2 at least which would make it my top game of all time
just started a replay after years. still feels the same. its definitely tighter, feels more deliberately made than rdr2. also a lot more dark and mature
Love this video, and not just because I share the same opinions with you haha. So glad I found your channel, quality content here. Looking forward to see you grow!
I hate the fact there is so little RDR1 content around. The game is so incredible and it doesn’t get the love it deserves. John marston certainly doesn’t. And a lot of “red dead fans” nowadays only really know RDR2 and that’s fine but the fact so many shrug off John and RDR1 just shows they haven’t played this masterpiece. Cause back in the day John marston was (and still is in my eyes) the biggest badass in gaming. Arthur Morgan may be more charming than John but RDR1 John beats RDR2 Arthur. And RDR1 story is solid. Only thing that knocks it back for alot of people is the graphics, map size and the fact there is less things to do. Great video though mate. I hope to see more RDR1 content

I’m 37 with two kids and didn’t game much in the ps3 era due to partying…I got an Xbox one x last year and rdr2 prob 6 months ago. I am blown away by how good that game is and I just got rdr because of it. I haven’t started it yet but this video makes me so excited to get into! I love getting lost in these amazing stories and absolutely can’t wait to fire it up now!!
Have you played it yet on the 1X? The enhancements blew my mind. The visuals are still great, and I actually like the gameplay better than RDR2 because it feels more like a proper Rockstar experience. RDR2 went nearly full western simulation, which is pretty cool, but I prefer the arcadey gameplay and antics of the first Redemption which holds true to the OG Red Dead Revolver flavor from 2004.
Rdr1 is like watching a Spaghetti Western... and Rdr2 is like watching a Tarantino film... Both are awesome but rdr1 is still a lil' bit better in terms of endgame activities..
So I got this game when this first came out on PS3 & got all the way to duch in the moutains scene. Once I got back to the farm I felt like the game was too long. Not knowing I was pretty much done. Then time went by & I thought wow I got my moneys worth for that game & I wanted to finish it. Recently found a 500GB PS3 at a pawn shop for $60 & bought the game on amazon brand new for $15. So as of october 19, 2021 I finally completed the game. I was so excited & I completed Red Ded 2. The whole story makes sense now that part 2 was made. I loved every moment of this game. Glad jack got revenge for his old man.
Nothing but love for OG Read Dead ❤️ but you can’t deny the graphics are harder on the eyes once you’ve played RDR2. I wish Rockstar would take a pause from creating more useless Red Dead Online content so they could Re-Master Red Dead 1 for the PS5 & Xbox X
I did the same thing! For some strange reason I've NEVER Played Red Dead Redemption.. I've played RDR2 and absolutely loved it! I've played it Over & Over & Over Again! I'm so stoked and can't wait to play Red Dead Redemption! Its coming tomorrow! I bought it for the Xbox one👊💥👍
I really like the atmosphere and movement/control fluidity in this game. Despite the second game looking stunning, there is something so.. non engaging about it
The first time I really got into this game was when I moved into my new home and I had a month before I started my new school. All I did was play this game.
Playing mine in full 4K with the patch for the Xbox One X. And god DAMN does it look even better and run better than I remember it being on my 360 in 2010. Had a PS3 as well, but passed on it for that platform because of how the performance and graphics stacked lower
The sound track...it was the cherry on top and for me it's what separates the very good into a work of art...and as always with rockstar they always nail the casting and dialogue
Great review! just finished the 2nd game, going to replay the first game. CG models to the first game, look similar to the Clint Eastwood film A Fistful of Dollars. What are your thoughts on Red Dead Revolver for the PS2?
I remember seeing my friend's dad play that last ranch level way back in like 2011. Didn't end up playing and beating the game until last year, but I pretty much knew the ending before I even played it lol
I remember when they updated red dead redemption for the one x and you could see more details when you pay attention it got me ready for rdr2 which I preordered as soon as I was able to I couldn’t not preorder it and play it before most of my friends they were both amazing on they’re platforms and I’ve spent sooooooo much time in both of these games so rockstar I thank you✊
I'd say the biggest difference between RDR and RDRII is that RDR tries to be a comic'ish over the top western on steroids, fulfilling all the cliche's while being social critic like the GTA series, while RDRII tries to be a full blown cinematic monument using RDR as a general frame to build on and both games actually hit that goal 100%.
I recently played and beat this on PS3 as i bought it years ago, but didn't play much of it. Really great game and it doesn't look graphically terrible either.
Honestly i find rdr really hard to play after finishing rdr2 because of the mechanical differences, but i need to play 2 then 1 for story sake, dutches death is sm better after the whole “cant fight grvaity” and “i have a plan” from 2
I've haven't played rdr2 but the fact u we're able to have a moral in the game as to the buffalo ... The nuns u can help or rob... Etc etc ... Plus sometimes u think ur helping the strangers but it still needs in death
The first red dead redemption is still an absolute masterpiece nearly 11 years later. If only they would add auto hdr and a 60 FPS boost to it on Xbox and it would be incredible.
Im going to take a wild guess and say that you don't like slow character development dramas/psychological thrillers neither, right? You probably prefer "movies" like fast and furious.
@@97warlock I know. Me personally, I dont like any GTA. The characters are stupid and I don't really care for any of them. It breaks immersion for me cause to be honest, I cant relate to their "lives". A path of redemption on the other hand... We all have our skeletons in the closet. I love RDR. Both of them. Great story. And the fact that it's KINDA interactive made it that much better.
I‘m not sure I want a Red Dead Redemption III. I can’t think of anywhere for the story to go. Maybe explore Jack‘s time after RDR1 or show us what Saide is up to after RDR2 or maybe show the origins of the Van der Linde gang… but neither feels right. I think the best way is to make the next game set in the same universe but disconnected from RDR1-2 and maybe focus on the Mexican Revolution; call it Red Dead Revolution.
I know how you feel:] I remember saying the same things about Valve and stuff they produced back when i was growin up in games. I'll be honest, when Rockstar came onto the scene i didn't take them seriously b/c i thought it was just another big name in gaming that pandered a lil bit to their audience. but i find myself defending GTA in conversations where ppl criticize it and i'll like, argue about its societal commentary... for real. Rockstar puts real passion into the worldbuilding. I still listen to GTA radio stations on youtube lol

very well done review. thank you. looking to buy a used xbox one or one s and experience rdr1 since i absolutely adore rdr2.
I finished rdr2 and I'm can't wait to finish this game as well
How did you feel about RDR2?
After Playing RDR2 on PC, I have realised, ill never be able to play this wonderful game again.
Get a Xbox one and play it on 360 🤙
I really like the atmosphere and movement/control fluidity in this game. Despite the second game looking stunning, there is something so.. non engaging about it
Don't forget RDR1 has the best DLC ever with Undead Nightmare.
This game built my childhood
💯
A kid playing an adult game, typical.
The sound track...it was the cherry on top and for me it's what separates the very good into a work of art...and as always with rockstar they always nail the casting and dialogue
It's been a goddamn minute man lol hope your keeping good dude. This game ....:0
God tier game
@@IcyRhythmsthereal really is man. Glad to see you back at it
you need to blow up your such a good content creator
Help share my content!
Great review! just finished the 2nd game, going to replay the first game. CG models to the first game, look similar to the Clint Eastwood film A Fistful of Dollars. What are your thoughts on Red Dead Revolver for the PS2?
why doesnt this have more traction?!?!
Share it anywhere you can! It helps so much!
@@IcyRhythmsthereal will do
because the game came out 10years ago
@@Dwight_ you are an entire prenancy late to this comment fucker
@@TheRadioactiveMaster yea i know sorry, i wondert if people would still react.
I remember seeing my friend's dad play that last ranch level way back in like 2011. Didn't end up playing and beating the game until last year, but I pretty much knew the ending before I even played it lol
I remember when they updated red dead redemption for the one x and you could see more details when you pay attention it got me ready for rdr2 which I preordered as soon as I was able to I couldn’t not preorder it and play it before most of my friends they were both amazing on they’re platforms and I’ve spent sooooooo much time in both of these games so rockstar I thank you✊
My favorite all time video game.
Top 5 and probably top 3 for me.
truly impressed when i decided to dust off my xbox 360 copy and load it on my xbox one x. holy cow...
I like the way in rdr 1 you can fast travel to waypoint
Liars dice was my favorite mini game in there lol
I'd say the biggest difference between RDR and RDRII is that RDR tries to be a comic'ish over the top western on steroids, fulfilling all the cliche's while being social critic like the GTA series, while RDRII tries to be a full blown cinematic monument using RDR as a general frame to build on and both games actually hit that goal 100%.
Great video
Seriously I can't wait for this game to be remastered. Like, I can't believe it's not been done already..
It’s not gonna be remastered tbh
hey man love the review
Appreciate you guys
Great review my brother
I’ve been playing a lot of ps3 lately and I just orderd this and some other older games
Ps3 is so good, my ps4 has been off a while
I recently played and beat this on PS3 as i bought it years ago, but didn't play much of it.
Really great game and it doesn't look graphically terrible either.
Can you still get the game on Xbox one x if you don’t already own it?
yes
IcyRhythms I tried and it said something about not being able to get it on Xbox.com plz help I’m tryna play it
@@thajemm4371 I don't know if you've solved this problem or not, but I have. Just change your store area to others
your game looks AMAZING i think it has a higher resolution than rdr2 on my console
Didn't like rdr2 but this game was one of the best I've ever played
How u gonna figure that that game was the bomb
Honestly i find rdr really hard to play after finishing rdr2 because of the mechanical differences, but i need to play 2 then 1 for story sake, dutches death is sm better after the whole “cant fight grvaity” and “i have a plan” from 2
This 2010 GOTY can be played in 2021 through HDD too.
RDR is in my top 5 of all time. If you never played it get it on Xbox One X ASAP.
Great video dude thanks so much
Played today on my ps3 still holds up
I've haven't played rdr2 but the fact u we're able to have a moral in the game as to the buffalo ... The nuns u can help or rob... Etc etc ... Plus sometimes u think ur helping the strangers but it still needs in death
Playing this after RDR2 just hits differently...
The first red dead redemption is still an absolute masterpiece nearly 11 years later. If only they would add auto hdr and a 60 FPS boost to it on Xbox and it would be incredible.
im pretty sure theres hdr but not 60 fps
@@Rampage_tL yeah every xbox game has auto hdr
The game on Xbox one x is actually native 4k
14:31 are you talking about forced stealth or optional stealth because there is nothing wrong with letting people take a stealthier option
Fun factor to me, which is personal taste , I still love GTA 5 ………….. RDR 2 just looks like a slow paced game with great grafix
Im going to take a wild guess and say that you don't like slow character development dramas/psychological thrillers neither, right? You probably prefer "movies" like fast and furious.
@@sideskroll Nah None of that. RDR Just seems like a slow paced game compared to GTA5 , keep in mind, Ive been a fan of GTA series since GTA 3
I still listen to GTA radio stations on youtube lol
my favorite game so far.
