      oh right :o
      Often such parallels exist because two languages derrived from the same language or took the word from the same language if it didn't exit in their language before but in this case it is most likely just a pure coincidence and I think this makes it even more interesting

      @@woofaroo_ there's also パン (pronounced "pan") in Japanese, meaning bread. And that is also the exact word "Pan" in Spanish, "Pane" in Italian, "Pain" in French, and "Pão" I think in Portuguese if I remember right. My guess is that bread was introduced in Japan by one these europeans and such the word made it to Japanese, the same way that many other words crossed from English.

    Thanks for the videos.
    I felt that in the earlier videos the pace was a bit fast for some of the characters, however in this video and the other elementary 1st grade videos the pace is very good, I really like the style of these videos.
    I like how you introduce different information to explain things such and explain the context of the other kanji's in detail, also the drawings are fun !

    Thank you for this lesson :) But as a beginner, i've got a question. What is the difference between sentences 空が青い and 空は青い? What is the main difference between particles は and が?

    • @learningkanji3930
      @learningkanji3930  7 лет назад +16

      Generally speaking, "空が青い" is used when just saying "the sky now I see is blue", whereas "空は青い" means "the thing called sky is blue" i.e. defining the sky as a thing which has blue color. We say "今日は空が青い"(Today, the sky is blue.") but "Today's sky is blue." is "今日の空は青い". In the former, it is just describing the appearance of the sky(the sight of the eye) , while in the latter it is presenting the "today's sky(今日の空)" as a topic("as for today's sky") and describing it. However, "The reason why today's sky is blue is because it is after the typhoon." is "今日の空が青いのは、台風の後だからだ". In this case, the topic is "the reason why..." and the main topic is not in "today's sky" so "today's sky is blue" becomes "今日の空が青い" in this sentence.
      The difference between は and が is very deep and native speakers are unconscious about it, so it is difficult to answer when asked anew. I will reply later again. Sorry for the present. Thank you.

      In the case there are three club members.
      Who is the captain of the club? だれがこのクラブの部長(ぶちょうcaptain)ですか?
      I am (the captain of the club). 私が部長です。
      It implies the captain is not the other person than me. [I] am the captain (the emphasis is in [ ]).
      In other words, it means, “It is I who is the captain of the club.” 部長は私です。
      On the other hand,
      私は部長です。I am a captain of a club.
      It means “As for me, I am a captain of a club.”
      It just means “I am a captain”, and do not exclude the possibility that there are captains of other clubs in this world.
      Another case. There are three persons (A, B, C).
      Which fruits do you prefer among apples, oranges and bananas? りんごとみかん(Japanese orange)とバナナの中で、どのくだものが好きですか?
      A says “I prefer apples.” 私はりんごが好きです。
      It means “As for me…” so it implies I prefer apples but I do not know about the others’ liking.
      It is also used when saying “I like apples but B and C do not like them.” 私はりんごが好きですが、他の二人(B and C)はりんごが好きではありません(好きじゃないです)。
      i.e. when distinguishing or differentiating A('s liking) from B and C('s ones).
      On the other hand, when there are many oranges and one apple;
      One person says “I will eat an orange.” 私はみかんを食べます。
      It implies “As for me, I will eat an orange.” “I will eat an orange but I do not know what others will eat.” 私はみかんを食べますが、ほかの人が何を食べるかは知(し)りません。
      “Who eats the apple?” だれがりんごを食べますか?”Who is it that will eat the apple?” りんごを食べるのはだれですか?
      私が(それを)食べます。I will eat it. (It is I who will eat it.) It is changeable by それ(apple)を食べるのは私です。It implies “I, not the others”. It seems to distinguish I from others, but it can rather be thought just to specify the person who will eat an orange (so consequently distinguishing I from the others, though)
      .
      Another case.
      Which do you prefer among apples, oranges and bananas?
      I like apples best. 私はりんごがいちばん好きです。It specifies the best liking with the particle が.
      I like apples, oranges but do not like bananas. 私はリンゴとみかんは好きですが、バナナは好きではありません(好きじゃないです)。 It distinguishes apples and oranges from bananas with the particle は.
      Another case.
      Which of the three will clean the room? だれが部屋をそうじしますか?
      I will (do it). 私がやります。It is I who will do it. (やる: to do) It specifies the person in charge(who cleans the room) with the particle が.
      私はやります。I will do (but I do not know if others will do it or not).
      私はやりますが、ほかの人たちは今日(きょう)は用事(ようじ)があるようです。I will do it but the others seem to be busy today.
      Another example;
      There are three boys playing in the ground.
      Who is the fastest runner of the three? だれがいちばん足がはやいですか?
      Taro is the fastest. 太郎君がいちばんはやいです。※ It specifies the fastest one with the particle が.
      Are there 6th grade students? 6年生はいますか?
      Taro is a 6th grader. 太郎君は6年生です。ほかの2人はわかりません。(I do not know about the others.)
      Taro is a 6th grader, but the other two isn’t. 太郎君は6年生ですが、ほかの2人はちがいます。※ It distinguish 6th grader Taro and others(not 6th) with the particleは.
      When just knowing that there is one 6th grader but not knowing who, and ask "Who is the 6th grader?"
      Taro is the 6th. 太郎君が6年生です。In this case the 6th grader can be specified, so it is indicated by the particle が.
      These are only a little part of the difference between は and が, but tentatively for now.
      I will add if there is anything I notice. Thank you.

      ありがとうございます。2nd grade video has all the kanji in 2nd grade in one video. Maybe I should make a table of contents. Anyway, these video do not deal with all the reading and they are just overview. Thank you for watching and the helpful comment.

    Thanks for the videos. They are very well done and helpful. but i wondered about the felt tip marker you are using to draw kanji. Can you tell me what brand it is and if available in U.S.?

    • @learningkanji3930
      @learningkanji3930  7 лет назад +1

      Thank you. You can buy the marker in the Amazon.com, perhaps. Search by "Pentel Fude Touch Sign Pen", "SES15C-A" or "SES15C".

    I don't understand how red is a noun. You can't hold a red in your hand, but you could hold something that is red. So, red is always an adjective, to my mind

    • @chojacc
      @chojacc 5 лет назад +1

      In polish we have a word meaning red as a noun, so that's simple to understand. In english id say red as a noun is something like redness

      I think of the difference between aka and akai like this. Aka is the idea or concept of red as a color while akai is used to describe something as red. That is how aka can be a noun and akai an adjective.

    • @learningkanji3930
      @learningkanji3930  6 лет назад +3

      Thank you for watching and commenting! No, Japanese people do not use Chinese version of kanji. They use only Japanese version of kanji. ありがとうございます。

    • @Yotanido
      @Yotanido 6 лет назад

      The Japanese have adopted the Chinese characters at different times. Many of the Japanese Kanji are the same as traditional Chinese characters. Others are the same as the simplified ones.
      There are other Kanji which have a root traditional Chinese character, but which was simplified differently than the Chinese one.
      And again others are original Japanese characters which don't exist in Chinese.
      I think the traditional Chinese characters are actually the most common, though. If you know those already, you have a huge advantage with learning Kanji :)
