Where possible, all links are affiliate links, this youtube thing is an expensive endeavor and every little bit helps.
WoAD is actually free from their website. I know the developer.
That is good to know. If I use it, I will make a donation.
That's good to know!
Great info!
Yeah?
they added the tnc to the 7500 as well
@@KO4AFL they sure did! Makes a good radio that much better!
Awesome video, thank you Steve!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I first tested Winlink by sending an email to my gmail address. First via Telnet, then Vara HF and Ardop.
Nice!
LOOKS LIKE GREEN SCREEN AT TIMES WHEN YOUR INSIDE😂👋☕️😁
I'll take that as a compliment!
Vero have a clear/prison version one now. I already ordered mine and am waiting for the warehouse to get back from their new years to ship it.
That clear one is pretty good!
Thanks!
You're welcome!
wild stuff this is cool
@@GerForever hey Patrick!
Enjoying this series. How do you find a 2m gateway in your area? I've only done VARA HF so far.
I have seen in the pat winlink software where you can drop down and filter. You can also check out this website here: winlink.org/content/gateway_locations
That's convenient, tnx Man!
Yeah, super easy!
Riddle me this? In the program you have the option to update the list of packet stations near you, how do you update the list if you don't have cell service? Great videos by the way.
I /think/ its possible to do it off RF, but I imagine it would be slow and you'd need to have a known gateway nearby to query.
Been there. Done that. Every Monday WCARES check-in! I just use the UV-PRO! And the forms work as well with the subscription!
Sweet!
Holding out for BTECH to get some colors like the VGC so I can be the kool kid on the block.
Btech is a good company, but they don't seem to be hip to the colors!
I love living in rural SWTexas, except for not having a 2-meter gateway. I run the Retevis RT99 (VGC VN7500) as my 2-meter, 70CM base station. So, I'm already familiar with the VGC app and use it daily. I have WOAD on my phone and Chromebook. I still have to set my Digirig up for HF. I'd love to be able to get the VR-N76 and do Winlink via the HT. Just nowhere to connect for a VHF gateway. Great video though. Good to know if I do get somewhere near a gateway.
Sounds like you have all the gear to make one... wonder if there are any others on 2m in your area?
I did check the map on the Winlink page. Apparently, there is a Vara FM gateway in San Antonio. Unfortunately, that's 3 hrs away. And I believe one in Hondo, about 2 hours away. A short drive by Texas standards, but a bit much for VHF. LOL. Maybe I can convince a friend who has been getting heavy into Winlink recently to consider creating a VHF gateway. I'll even toss him a radio.
@WolfQuantum you know what you have to do!
How about a P2P over 2m video?
That would be nice!
Hmm looks like I can't hit my 2M location from outside my house. Guess I'll have to put an antenna up in a tree to see if I can hit it that way.
@@AllFouRoux go for it!
Love they added this feature thats what i mainly use my cero for winlink and aprs. I got a question about a different setup you maybe able to help with TO so im using a xiegu g106 with a digirig lite and using just the mini din cable i have it plugged into my android phone using ft8cn it triggers the radio to tx and the ptt light on the digirig lite is lit up but no signal is transmitted out of the radio cause the s meter drops to 0 and doesn’t move it decodes incoming signals just cause get audio out of the radio
I don't have that combo - sounds like PTT isn't working? Any way to run some tests and see what the breakdown is? Maybe a different rig definition?
@temporarilyoffline the digirig lite ptt light lights up and the radio goes into tx but no audio is being sent out im thinking i will have to get the digirig mobile and have both cables one for mini din and the 3.5mm (the g90 cables from digirig) to get it to full work i thought i could get away with just 1 cable since the lite has the ptt feature built in
@@KQ4KXA I'm sure there is an answer, I just don't have the toys to play with it to figure it out.
@ yea not a problem the setup is is the g106 the g90 digirig cables and the digirig lite with an android phone of course if u ever want to play with it ill eventually get the mobile digirig and try that out so i can use both cables and see if that works
Wish they had a packet Winlink server near me. All of the ones I have are Vara FM
Time to make yet another dedicated radio server!!!
TO is correct @@temporarilyoffline
Just curious. On the UV-PRO, I didn't have to set the frequency at all, but I was using RadioMail on iPhone16. It will automatically set the frequency for where you're connecting.
That's interesting. I wonder how it sets the frequency for you.
Just an FYI, it looks like Radiodity is not currently shipping these radios to the US; other equipment is available for US delivery. Presumably this is because they currently do not have any of this particular radio stocked over here and are not currently importing new stock to the US. Is this temporary? I dunno.
Thanks for the info!
Good job T.O. I hope Yaesu and Icom are paying attention and implement this feature into their mobile rigs soon. 73 OM
They should have done it over a decade ago ;-) But better late than never!
i believe the Kenwood has it.
How do I find a winlink VHF/UHF gateway cause I will need line of sight?
Try the map here: winlink.org/content/gateway_locations
hola tengo el n76 y me es complicado configurarlo con el celular tendrias para darme una ayuda ?
Sure
Are there any mobile radios that support bluetooth connectivity by any chance?
My Yaesu FT3D supports headset/headphone Bluetooth. If you’re asking about data, not sure.
@maxvideodrome4215 I was more thinking about integrated TNC like the portable radios mentionned in the video. Should of been more specific. Cheers
Vero makes a VR-N7500 (soon to be N7600) that works the same way. Check it out here: www.verotelecom.com/VERO-VR-N7500-50W-Dual-Band-Mobile-Radio-With-APP-Programming-p541441.html?parent_user_id=18298272

@@temporarilyoffline Any news on when VGC will release the N7600
I think it’s cool but I am only interested if it works with an IPhone or Ipad.
@@thuff3207 it does. Radiomail
@@temporarilyofflineit works on the iPhone but I have had connection issues when initially connecting first thing
So it's not really email, it's just messages between stations? I can't access Gmail and Hotmail with it...
much like gmail and hotmail "compete" with each other, this is a similar service so gmail/hotmail/winlink/outlook = same. You can email between all of those services. The only problem is the artificial government constraint on speeds keeps winlink back.
Does it matter what band you’re on? Like 2m.
@@99Victor you just have to be on the same band as the station you're trying to connect to.
Is there a similar to woad for IOS?
There is an app called "RadioMail". I haven't tried it yet.
Just an FYI - I had to re-subscribe to your channel yesterday. The bots may be unsubscribing followers.
that stinks! Glad you made it back!
Not sure why, but "steve" or "STEVE" doesn't work as a code for Vero. It's okay though, with all the camper accessories and things, I really shouldn't be buying another radio, lmao.
Thanks for the heads up! I've reached out to them to see what they know.
What are you looking at? Helicopter. Hell yeah! Bonus points for showing the helicopter. I panicked thinking you might not.
I got you!
This radio and it’s price range keeps amazing me. Thanks for the video. I got mine so time to play! 73
Its hard to beat for a feature packed HT
Red!!!
The only one that counts!
🤣🤣🤣🤮🤮🤮
🤣🤣🤣🤮🤮🤮
In about a year maybe two it will be simplistic and streamlined enough me and my buddies might buy one and use it for txting each other on our smartphones but right now the user interface and ease of use is still too low quality to enjoy, i want my girlfriend to easily be able to send me txt and email with this but its still needs work..
I'm constantly at odds with my thought that "ham radio" is supposed to be inventive and cutting edge and the reality of how far behind the times and restricted it all is.
