You mention sending your work out and it being a numbers game-I have read and heard that a few different places, but I just have no idea who I am supposed to be sending my work to!! Lara -- are there any successful shooters in fashion over 50 who didn't start much earlier? I'm wondering how much age can be a block to getting hired by younger creatives.
If shooting in brighter conditions were you need to use a larger aperture/ fast shutter speed and need to overpower the sun, the use of high speed sync would be most useful.

There are studios that rent rooftops.
