The "AI" component is just target identification as far as I can tell. It's similar to how face unlock works on phones. You use machine learning to tune an algorithm on how to identify and verify that sensor information matches the intended target. The reason why it's machine learning is because this software technique is the most effective and well understood. Weapons like this already existed, such as the asroc, which is basically a torpedo on a rocket. It looks for target sonar signatures autonomous after launch and this thing is pretty old. It's just that people like to scream about buzzwords like AI without understanding the actual technology.
