this was such a great vlog! your excitement at not having to socialise was felt deep in my bones hahaha. i'm a fan sounds wickedly funny and also a bit confronting but i really want to read it. the unnerving energy of the shirley jackson stories is exactly what i was hoping for, i'm glad you're enjoying them too. and i'm sending you so much love to you regarding the election results. i always dread hearing them over here. my heart is so heavy for so many people and places. ily x
This introvert had social engagements too many weekends in a row and needed a break. Really looking forward to book club discussion on Shirley Jackson. Thanks for your lovely message Katie. Xx
I'm a Fan was such a romp !!! the ending really got to me as did most of the book in calling me out about my ugly behaviors and relationship in regards to social media. Patel got me GOOD!
Love these quiet little weekend vlogs ❤ I’m also curious about killers of the flower moon! Think I might red it before watching as well. Excited for you to dig into Shirley Jackson :)
Actually went and saw the film last night and it was great but so long. I’m gonna pick the book up after We Have Always Lived in the Castle which I’ve just started.
I’m the same kind of vlogger! I tend to record my progress through a book. I love your dog walk clips 😊. Very relaxing while I’m working on a spreadsheet . We here in the US have experienced great ups & downs every 4 yrs. I KNOW the feeling - that gut punch, disappointing feeling. I enjoyed I’m A Fan’s unique, in your face style.
I had a very similar reading experience with I'm a Fan -- read it too slowly for its/my own good bc I was busy/unfocused at the time, and def felt that this wasn't the "best" way to read the book. but I did also really liked it nonetheless. I imagine the audiobook would be really good!
So sorry about the election. Happened the same day as the No vote for the voice to parliament here in Australia. Dark times in lots of places it seems ❤
so glad you enjoyed I’m a fan haha I read it recently and unfortunately wasn’t a fan 😅 Patel tells a really intricate narrative with obsession and social media however her more essay-ish chapters on capitalising culture and etc felt very one-sided to me! Also absolutely with you on the result of this year’s election 😢 I knew it wasn’t looking good but wasn’t expecting this turnout. Sending lots of courage and love to you and your whanau 💗
I loved the narrators view on culture and colonialism really interesting and they’re what made this book for me, particularly from the perspective of a brown woman. Election results disappointing but great to see more seats for Te Paati Māori and Greens at the final count.
I'm so sorry about the election. I dealt with our 2016 outcome in a similar way - loads of crying. On a much lighter note, also love Dominos. It's my guilty pleasure for sure!
@aleksismil she was horrible to her partner, I did think it was a bit weird him telling her what kind of person she actually was when it came to sex. But yeah no she was not in any ways a perfect person.
@@r.enee.morris I guess that was the point of the novel - to show the complexity of her character. She was very aware of racism and sexism in her immediate surroundings but at the same time in her personal life she was failing her partner. For that I really applaud the author. My dislike of the book comes from a more personal experience. I found it rather difficult to read about the abuse she inflicted on her partner, hence the dislike.
Your vlogs are so calming, thank you for creating this kind of content even through hard times 💜
Thank you, hoping that people find them a comforting distraction.

Right!?!? All my own yucky social media habits put on blast in this book but loved it so much.

Thank you. Yes we’ve been here before and we will make it through. Can’t wait to see what Sheena Patel brings out next.
Oh me too 😃

I wanna reread it already.

Wanna post that Auden poem again
Yep cried about the No vote in Australia too. It’s been a heavy few weeks. 😢

Omg where does your jacket from the first clips comes from ? it’s so beautiful !
It’s Ganni. Love it, has been my Winter and early spring staple. A chic alternative to a puffer jacket.

Didn’t expect how emotional the result was going to make me. Dominos is the reliable cheap fast food we can all count on.
😊
😄
Am I the only person who absolutely hated "I'm a fan"?
Hahaha possibly in these comments. That’s a strong response, what did you hate about it?
@@r.enee.morris The toxicity of her behavior towards her partner. I found it to be abusive at times.
