People spend one to two hours a day... man ... I’ve been spending 4 hours every night before bed scrolling my social media and watching videos I don’t even care about... plus all the hours I spend during the day. It’s frightening how you can become addicted to the feeling social media gives you. In a way, it makes you feel less alone. I like to listen to videos all day long, so it feels as if I had a friend over speaking words of wisdom. Ugh, I’m such a mess with the social media addiction !!!! 😠

Oh my gosh, I was also thinking, "2 hours?? That's the version of me who has their shit together!!!"
I sympathize. I'm in a true rut myself because I've been around the "social side" of the internet for 16 years now, since I was a teen. It was forums and MSN at first, now it's Twitter and the like... I hardly know any different other than the short-lived periods of me trying really hard, so breaking such built-in habits takes so much willpower. Good luck to you!!

I feel you. I've also got a problem with that. The more time I spend watching videos, the lonelier I feel. And after hours of scrolling through the internet, I just feel so drained, tired and unhappy. I need to change but don't know how to start :'(

I think that if you utilize media in your benefit there is nothing wrong with having more than a few or more hoursof it per day. I listen to a lot of encouraging, educational and instructional videos while i do chores. Some other times i listen to audio books. I have been off social media since the beginning off this month (besides youtube obviously). People say they can't but you can. So many people live with out it, why can't you? The first week I would pick up my phone to scroll through Facebook, realize I didn't have it, and went and did something productive. I also have had more improved self esteem, since now I am not constantly comparing myself to insta models and everyone who Im not. I understand some people use it as a platform to help their careers, and that it may be different for them.

Not saying sorry quite so much/just generally being conscious of the words I use is something I have been working towards for the last year. It changes your entire perspective on things and your mindset. Words are very powerful. So it stands to reason you change others perspective of you by the words you choose as well.

To anyone who's looking for a good alarm clock app for their phone, I would recommend alarmy. It doesn't have a snooze function, which can be frustrating at first but is beneficial to your health in the long run. It lets you choose whatever music or sound you like for the alarm and also lets you set a a specific task that you need to do to turn the alarm off in the morning. For example, there's an option to choose a specific number of maths problems in order to turn off the alarm (you can choose the difficulty) which will improve mental maths skills. There's another option to scan a qr code or barcode in order to turn the alarm off- you could put a recipt with a barcode on it at the opposite side of your room so you have to get up straight away rather than lying in bed procrastinating or going back to sleep. There's also a lot of other options; I've been using it for a few months and it's a complete game changer.

I've ordered a sunlight alarm, it gradually gets brighter over 30 mins before the alarm goes off to wake you up slowly rather than the terrifying jolt of a noisy alarm which you quickly shut off and makes you feel like crap. I can really attest to the comparison habit! There's a girl on my uni course that I compared myself to a lot when we first started. I'm on a music course and we're both singers and one of the first performances we were in had me questioning why I was there because I kept looking at her and thinking I'm never gonna be as great as she is. However, at the end of the performance I told her what a good job she did and that we should get together for practices etc. and she's now one of my best friends and we constantly play off each other now and I'm all the better singer/performer for it! You also realise when you stop comparing yourself to someone that they have just as many insecurities and flaws as you do just maybe in different ways.

OMG!! sorry my most used word. I completely resinate with you on this. I have tried to not say sorry as much, but have no idea how to tell someone something. Thank you for sharing this. I absolutely LOVE your vids never stop creating ♡ Yaz.

Yes I say sorry too much too! I realized I was taking responsibility for things gone wrong when I should just step back and let the people who actually caused the problem take care of it. That way I’m less frustrated and they learn to accept responsibility. I think I’m doing better now, but it’s a tough mindset to get out of! I agree that it’s a culture thing (although I’ve never been to Australia but seems like a lot of the culture is similar to the US 😁)

Great video Michelle! Just wanted to point out re the drinking on weekends topic- you don't have to ditch your friends who drink in favour of making new friends who don't (unless the friends who drink are actually toxic for you in other ways). Just don't order alcoholic beverages when you're with them. You can still spend time with people you love who might like a tipple, you just have to responsible for your own choices. Thanks for the great content, love your channel!

I think thats true depending on the kind of friends you have - I know lots of people with friends who literally live for binge drinking on weekends and they wouldn’t be able to just not drink without a generally painful / peer pressurey night! Also it’s a whole lot easier when you have people around you who aren’t cultured to default to drinking - but a drink limit or just not drinking is a good option depending on the situation!

    • @louisebrehmer3028
      @louisebrehmer3028 5 лет назад

muchelleb that is true. It such an ingrained part of our culture here in Oz that you have to drink if you want to have a good time. And that's simply not true. People who are inebriated are no fun to be around. Good call to choose your friends wisely.

I soooo agree on your opinion on drinking! It is so liberating to feel good and be productive with everybody else being hungover :)

As a Canadian, “sorry” is so engrained in our culture and what we are “known for”. But I like that challenge! I’m going to try to minimize the use of that work! #sorrynotsorry 😜🧡 keep up the great content!

You don’t have to uninstall and reinstall Instagram! If you have an iPhone you can set App Limit times by going into Settings > Screen Time > App Limits. I used this to set limits for Social Media apps and it’s really helped!

Hi! Just got into your channel and loving it! If you ever made a whole video with just the comparison part that would be so helpful for me. Easiest the one thing I'm struggling with the most right now. Have you any tips on books on that? :)

Omg the saying sorry thing- literally everyone in Canada does it! I really wanna stop but I feel impolite not saying sorry even if it’s not my fault at all (e.g. someone bumping into me), it’s just so ingrained into the culture here

I have also uninstalled Instagram because I’m trying to reduce my social media daily “consumption” and thought that I would have to install it back every time I wanted to answer to DM’s or post. There’s this great desktop app called Flume that let’s you do it 😊 I use it once a week and I’m quite happy about it. You make a lot of my days better ones with your inspiring videos and I feel so motivated to align my actions with my beliefs 💕

    1. Drinking too much caffeine and/or alcohol
    2. Comparing myself to others
    3. Consuming content disproportionally to creating content
    4. Overthinking about the past and future
    5. Not spending at least 30 minutes every day working towards my lifelong dreams
Those are the habits that I'm trying to stop this year. So for so good on the first 3! A little more work is needed on 4 and 5 :-)
