You always see that fall damage thing in Rockstar games. If you drop the character from a height that they certainly wouldn't survive at all, like above the tallest building in a city or from the maximum height you can reach, sometimes they just survive. I'm pretty sure it happens in GTA San Andreas, and I know it happens in GTA 4. I can't remember if it's a thing in GTA 5 but it wouldn't surprise me. I think it has been explained before somewhere, but I can't remember what exactly causes it.
