Thank you so much . I typically always gesso my pages. I find the paint blends more easily and it allows for many techniques . I usually do a gesso session where I gesso several pages at the same time...then they are dry and ready to go and I can start the page. I mentioned that I use the Canson Mixed Media journals....These are coiled. I take the pages off the coil to work on and then when I am done I put them back on the coils ( there's a video showing this) This allows me to work flat. Also I prefer only working on the one side..this adds less bulk...keeps your pages cleaner and if you want to toss it out ( page gone bad) you don't lose what's on the other side..also if you wish to frame a page you can do so. When you shade the face with brown, how are you loading your brush? Is it a dry brush technique?
