Jolie Aranda the speed bag is an important tool in boxing but a lot of its purpose has been lost in recent times. On top of the standard timing and rhythm, it can develop power through the quick tense and relax, important for throwing powerful punches, as well as working more grappling and dirty boxing style stuff like trapping and clinching that happened in old school boxing all the time. A youtuber called Ramsey Dewey has great videos about this inspired by Jack Dempsey’s writings on the speed bag.
For those that don't know, working the speed bag like that is extremely hard & takes lots of practice. He was even putting some elbows in there. I can only pray that if I live that long my hand & eye coordination could be that good

I think it's even more impressive he's not going full power cause of his age, it shows his technique and sense of timing is still on point
He knew I would film him that day but, I didn’t tell him when. This was just an easy going run with only a few of his 30 techniques and only for a very short time. He could easily hit for 15-20 minutes non stop. Did you see the recent video of him at 92 yrs old or the Behind The Scenes Episodes at 88 yrs old?

I can't believe this! This is the YMCA in Sarasota, FL, and the guy in the video Ernie taught me how to hit the speedbag at this very location back around 2008. Awesome dude, he would hit next to me and gave me all sorts of pointers, taught me how to double up and all sorts of stuff. Great to see him on RUclips, what a random treat.

Practice makes perfect. I now in honor to a grandmaster. At his age exercise for mental sharpness and reflexes are GOAT level.. Muscle memory does last a lifetime, if you train as a lifestyle not as a sport.

He's my new hero!!! I recently started boxing at age 40. There's times I get self conscious training with kids half my age and my mind starts telling me I don't belong. But I think I'm holding my own as I tough out every session. 85 years strong!!! 💥👊

Nice work young man! !we have a gentleman at our ymca in hawaii,not much younger than you who also teaches people how to hit the speed bag.we need to start paying attention and respect to our elders..most kids today do not know the value of having that kind of knowledge and experience to have around. ..#grandmas&grandpas

Jiany Star Massa vich how come?i trained in taekwondo for 17 years. i took some boxing lessons for half a year but never worked with one. i find myself to be a man of quick and sharp reflexes. would it be hard for me? and why would this be so hard? judging from this video and from watching the man hit the speedbag its not that hard.
