And what a dynamic duo of musicianship and creativity they were as well. Take away the lyrics from Time and Money and those songs will stand on their own. Take away the music and you see how utterly plain the lyrics are on their own.
I quite liked his stripped back version of Comfortably Numb, it was appopriate for the song. But it feels like he did that and thought "oooh, I can do all the other songs like this too" and you get what we've heard so far from Money and Time - two great songs totally stripped of their life and energy. Just weird, and another example of Roger trying to assert his case that he was the grandmaster behind it all, but it more shows himself up to look like the Wizard of Oz..
I think this release really emphasises how integral the other members of pink floyd were to the original sound and musicality. The findings of the autopsy on what made the original dark side of the moon great was that it was always a group effort.
It is all like this. I bet you he will do the same thing to the other classic mid period PF records. All in this dry sanctomonious boring lifeless emotionless musically dead self indulgent steaming Turd style.Just awful . Bleeding shite. Make him stop , somebody . please do something , make him go away , make him stop !!.:-0 Ya Bhagwaan! David Gilmour must be laughing himself stupid when he hears how bad this drivel is ".Pull the chain and flush the brown choo choo train!.". There! Put that " poem" into your next redux PF record Roger.
The irony: in an age where we’re being spoiled with vault recordings from Jethro Tull and Paul McCartney in the archive, Waters still insists on releasing the same albums with the same extras. At least Gilmour gave us some really cool extras on the Momentary Lapse of Reason set. And this “redux” album is just the cherry on top. I just don’t understand what Waters is gaining from holding on to masters and vault recordings of 50+ year old albums. I have the experience edition of Darkside from 2011. I have the live at Wembley disc. I don’t see any good reason why anyone should buy it again. And at a mark up.
Darry Boy, we all saw this coming back in 2001 or so with his so called best of "Flickering Flame" (In specific his version of "Knocking on Heavens Door") GREAT REVIEW ! (Even if i thought this was a zillion times better than "Money" RDX (Even if it kinda lacks the soul and spirit of the OG Version)
Much better than his remake of "Money". But, again, the spoken-word stuff is just terrible. I thought third-rate lyrics were supposed to be Gilmour's specialty.
I was missing a live listen of some sort of floyd content. i remember when i was at uni listening the live listen of meddle and the wall in the night. so many laughts with the end of the last one. I agree with you opinion on this water's remix
Far away Across the field Tolling on the iron bell Calls the faithful to their knees To hear the softly spoken magic spell. This is the last lines of the song. Perhaps its the tolling bell ? Hardly a copy of Division Bell
Think it's a more sophisticated and more reflective statement. The original was Rogers concept, as was the whole album. Some people seem unable to open their minds a bit, and are clearly RW or DG lovers. Roger was without doubt the creative force in PF and good on him for making such a classy version. He was and always be the main man in PF.
If you watch my reviews, you'll know I'm certainly no fan of DG's solo albums. I used to enjoy RW's output, but after his comments regarding the illegal invasion of Ukraine, I sold my albums and moved on.
The absence of melody, drama and emotion is very hard to sit through. I am sure inmates at Guantanamo bay will be subjected to this on high rotation piped into their cells until they confess to crimes they have not committed . Producers often make good decisions and tell an artist " That is dog shite, come up with something better!".Roger did not have someone around to tell him" Bad idea , why not retire instead?".@@TheDarrenLock
That completely dead close-mic'd drum sound is tiring....otherwise, it's just a boring reimagining. Doesn't make me more interested in the message/lyrics, either.
I listened to it once, I doubt I'll ever have the urge to do so again. It's not as bad as Money, but it's not 'good'. I think the drumming is too busy. I just don't get it.
I'm a Roger Waters fan insofar as I saw his dark side tour twice and the wall tour three times, and have his solo albums on vinyl. Im also a fan of David Gilmour and Pink Floyd. I wont be buying this redux version because of his initial statement about the original, and his attempt to hijack it and other albums. Yes his conceptual leadership, lyrics and other contributions were incredible. But the other members contributions should also be acknowledged.
Its hard to disagree Darren.....its, ok i prefer ot to 'Money' but i agree it clearly loses the essence of what the song is about but, i guess it had to be different, he wasnt simply gonna re-record a 'rock' version of it.....
Thank you, Roger Waters. So, Waters claims DSOTM was his project, that the other band members contributed nothing of real importance to it. Wonder what it would sound like with just him on it? Oh, like this mess! Those lyrics alone without the driving force of a creative band behind it are...well...just weak, the kind of stuff any pretentious high school kid could come up with. Thanks, Roger, for proving it beyond shadow or a doubt.
Of course Roger can do this but to say Dark Side was all about him is nuts. The chemistry between the guys made the DSOTM and made it a success it was, and still is.. None of the guys had as much success solo as they has as a band. From what I have heard of it I will not be buying it. Now I am just going to duck behind a big wall for safety lol.
The problem here is that boomy bass that overshadows the amazing lyrics of the song . And its not uplifting like the original .. its kinda depressing version rather then a true downtempo lounge
Amazing lyrics. No. It was amazing musicianship from the guitar break in the middle to the flowing keyboards though out and the soaring vocals of Wright and Gilmour. You can take that same song the way it was done and change out the sophomoric lyrics for the Humpty Dumpty poem and it would still sound dynamic.
@@ndogg20 your disagreement noted but i still believe that the song time has anazing lyrics . Sorry i don't agree with your point of view because it is so shallow
@@warmsound75 , Put it this way, even as a kid first hearing Time, I thought the lyrics were insipid, right up there with other 70s mediocre songs like Seasons In The Sun & Alone Again Naturally. Both those songs were no doubt heartfelt by their creators but were cringy listens. And both would have sounded so much deeper if given the hard rock dynamics of Gilmour and Wright. In other words, the music alone would make any lyrics sound good, but Waters lyrics on their own are mediocre. Waters proves this with his embarrassing Redux version.
Just listening to it makes me appreciate what a wonderful singer David Gilmour is and what a wonderful singer Richard Wright was.
Exactly!

That’s all you can draw from this and goes against everything Waters has been saying.
It's like Leonard Cohen covering Pink Floyd.
Hilarious and true. Your review is spot on. Roger Waters has become an embarrassment .
One thing it makes me realize is how good the original album is...
Thanks Darren ✌️
Just wait for the Stephen Wilson remix
Got stone on this version.Brilliant.
If the whole album is like this and money it's a massive steaming turd

Yeah, I thought the instrumental arrangement was OK...but then...oh well...

Meh, my comment was funnier...
I like both RW and DG, and in fact as a solo career I prefer RW… but I agree, this whole Dark Side thing is an embarrassment.
