Back in the late 80s there were three singers who employed this yawning style..Nitty Gritty, Tenor Saw and King Kong. These are the original masters.. The rest are imitations.

I love these artists they each have their own distinctive vocal sounda and singing style. I would recognise King Kong, Queen Omega, Eesah anywhere. It's hard to find this kind of uniqness these days.
So very true. I wonder why many of the top Dancehall artist at the moment have these weak pre-pubescent voices. The genre was built on raspy masculine voices with texture. It's like Dancehall got neutered. King Kong is breath of fresh air and a return to powerful male voice based Dancehall.
