    maybe the softest Shihan in the Aikikai. More of a Takemusu Aiki style

      But don't let the softness fool you too badly. He's actually pretty muscular and is in exceptional shape for his age! I went to one of his seminars a bit before the pandemic; everyone at the seminar got to take ukemi from him at some point, multiple times (probably around 60 people in attendance). He didn't just teach at the seminar, he trained at the seminar the whole time!

      It is, when someone uses his ‘thoughts and technology’ in other martial arts, it became very very usefull. Strong but Soft, Soft but Strong. Let’s feel you are far away but in fact in front. Sun Tzu law…. and others..

    have to be more vigorous and martial

    • @bene9472
      @bene9472 Год назад +2

      ...and tire yourself out? Efficient use of one's energies is key to endurance. As to being martial - he's doing a very good job of not getting hit!
      In all seriousness, this is a very specific style that few people could emulate. If you start off doing aikido like this then you will end up doing poor technique, but you should aim to become more relaxed over time - this is the result of decades of practice. Endo Shihan is one of the few remaining people to have trained under O Sensei, so his effectiveness is pretty much a certainty.

      Don’t disrespect what you do not understand. If you understand the way Aikido you would not say that.
      In an orthodox way Aikido can do collateral damages to the body.
      But this is no the goal as we are call the pacific warriors of Aikido.
      Before to say anything wrong please be sure what you are talking about.
      Oss 🙏

    • @mraffabilityGB
      @mraffabilityGB Год назад

      @@Tomasdreams I have a reasonable grasp of what I am talking about since I know these techniques down to the fine detail. I am particularly influenced by Nishio Sensei regarding the need for martial effectiveness and the ability to finish the technique from the moment of initiation. I wish that some of these top level Senseis would demonstrate more realistically and against something other than Shomen, and hand holding attacks, often by much lighter Ukes. There is very much more to Aikido which brings it alive.
      I think that it is important that Aikido techniques should be learned in response to less stylised and more typical forms of attack and I see no reason why demonstrations cannot feature these except that perfect technique is unlikely to be possible on all occasions.
      You are right on the subject of collateral damage to the body, since the aim of Aikido is to neutralize an attack without harm which is going to be very hard to achieve against multiple attackers since pinning more than two is likely to involve all one's resources.

      I’d love to see you at an Endo seminar… your brutish attacks will be considered useless.

    • @mraffabilityGB
      @mraffabilityGB Год назад

      @@Thehipposwereboiled As they should be, but the reality of brutish attacks is that if they get through they are likely to hurt and be followed by others. Aikido is based on the notion of multiple attacks.

      @Thehipposwereboiled Год назад

      @@mraffabilityGB multiple attacks by sword or if the sword was taken or lost... O sensei would surely rethink Aikido if he knew about MMA in present times? Let's not take this Martial Art out of it's context. Aikido nowadays can only be used for self-mastery and self-realisation. Although I did once stop a man from harming a woman by just resting my hand loosely on his arm, therefor disarming him and blending with him. If you want to fight, do something else...

    Akido demos may be nice to watch, but what it reveals is fake and unrealistic defence so-called countermoves. After grabbing or attempting a strike, poof the attacker makes no further movements or strikes. Maybe nice to watch but seriously flawed.
