- Police said a man was detained after driving toward a crowd of protesters at Portland State University in Oregon. He abandoned the car and used “some kind of pepper spray” against protesters while trying to run away. #shorts

as for the car, it never exceeded more than 10 miles an hour, and the guy stopped 20 yards before the crowd. However, even before he got to the crowd, you had people approaching the vehicle and throwing things at it. At that point if he feels like his life is in imminent danger, he has every right to try to get out of that situation. If you are blocking a road, you cannot be surprised when cars show up. It's not technically a road but cars sometimes drive on it. I used to live near that campus and would bike through it daily. Such a shame because Portland is a beautiful place, but ruined by some of the lowest quality of people.

If he wanted to kill people wouldn’t he have kept driving? He had every opportunity to do so. isn’t it more likely that by accelerating he wanted to scare people to move out of the way? Then, naturally, knowing that these protests are violent and that people who drive vehicles near them get broken into and beaten if they stay in their cars, chooses to flee, instead of backing out and possibly injuring someone.
He was at a near stop and accelerated with the intent to make the crowd believe he was about to run them over. He stopped before he ran anyone over but his intent was to intimidate people. Its like if you pint a gun at a police officer then put it away.

This is a university campus, this is how the walkways look. They're wide enough so that in case of an emergency an ambulance/fire truck can pass through, this is not a public road for just anyone to drive through.

There’s bike racks, no line in the middle, a pedestrian emergency station is right there, the material isn’t even road material, every other report shows it’s a walking area, the people there interviewed say it’s a walking area.
He was stopped then accelerated towards a group of people, that alone is enough. He threatened their safety. He also should never have been there in the first place no matter what because if it was a road it would’ve been restricted off for the protest
