Alok da, in Katha Amrit (Gospels of Sri Ramakrishna) why does Sri Ramakrishna talk about offering green coconut and mishri to Mother Kali whenever something Sri Ramakrishna had asked for someone else gets fulfilled. In regular life, this is called a 'mannat' which is more like a bargain with God. How would have Thakur Ramakrishna approached this offering then?
Dear Nilanjana Perhaps that was his way of connecting with the Divine Mother which may have continued since his early days as a priest in the Kali temple. However, he did not advocate it for others. A bargain is different. It is where you give if you get or give for getting. It is the inner attitude behind giving. Sri Ramakrishna would have surely never done it in the spirit of bargaining though to a casual onlooker it may seem so. Besides he was also an accomplished tantric and hence poojas with specific occult rites are known to tantric yogis. Perhaps he was doing it out of some such occult knowledge through which he made his own special connect. Being a child and seer and Yogi and bhakta he could freely access the great Mother's consciousness and ask anything. This is different from mannat where the lazy vital stakes a claim on God to fulfil his vital desires. Of course, God may grant it through the vital agencies and we remain tied in a vicious cycle until we discover the pain hidden behind every vital satisfaction of desire. Then we are ready for the next step and God comes to set us free. Sri Ramakrishna was far above every desire and rather advocated freedom from it. So perhaps these are isolated incidents and not much should be read into them. Affectionately Alok da
@@AuroMaa Ahh what a perfect explanation Alok da. It also clarifies to me how i tend to misunderstand many human actions of great beings from my limited humam vision. Ignorance leads humans to easily capture the rituals and make a cult out of it and give it the name of religion then, pointing out that so and so followed this ritual. Thank you so much for the wonderful clarity!!

Dakshina is one of the four Vedic goddesses of Knowledge, the other three being Ila, Sarama, Saraswati. Ila is Truth vision, Saraswati is Truth audition, Sarama is Intuition and Dakshina gives right discernment. Her association to giving with regard to teachers came up because in ancient India knowledge was not supposed to be sold. While there were Gurukula supported by the king where every child could receive education, specialised knowledge such as Brahmgyan (knowledge of the Ultimate Reality or the Highest Knowledge) as well as certain forms of Shastra Vidya (advanced weaponry) was only imparted to those whom the teacher felt right through adhikar bhed (right discernment as to who should receive). There was no money transaction for this knowledge since no price tag could be put on it. Hence when the student had received all that he could receive, as a token of gratitude, he had to offer what the guru asked applying once again his right discernment keeping in mind the capability of the student. In the setting of a yagna its esoteric sense means that the purification of nature through the yagna has not resulted in the right discernment then it is not yet complete. While Ila, Saraswati, Sarama can grant to the aspirant of yoga the higher faculties through which he can access a higher knowledge, this higher knowledge must be translated into the right action (daksha or perfect skill and mastery in action) through the application of the right discernment. Else the knowledge remains largely theoretical though true. Dakshina steps in to complete it by giving us the right knowledge for detailed application.

What is Dakshina without it yagna is not completed. normally we give money to brahmin. but what is real meaning and how to follow it.
