Great video man, very helpful and informative. I've been watching through loads of your videos as im looking into getting some finch and canarys, keep up the good work man!
@@libertyforall5764 people breed animals to have funny looking traits, alot of which are harmful to the animal. The working breed German shephard has a slightly curved spine, but the showbreed German shephard has a spine so curved, it's harmful. There is also a duck breed that has fancy looking hair like feathers on its head, but most of those ducks die from brain damage, since they're born with a hole in their skull
Another great interesting video Oliver on canarys but had to turn volume down so my mules didn't pick up the singing of the cock canary up lol 😆 All the best from Staffordshire 🏴 👍
I'm having a small problem with my female canary. She and her male started mating, and since I put them in together, I added a nest pan, since I imagined they might mate. I got materials for them, and put in a nest liner.... but she ended up making her nest in her food bowl. I tried encouraging her to nest in the pan, but no luck. I gave them another food bowl and let her nest. She ended up raising a healthy chick in it, and is now nesting again. I tried to encourage her yet again, to use the pan, but she didn't start building the nest until I put her original food bowl in for her. Now she is nesting in it, and I'm concerned that if she has more than one chick, there will simply not be enough room. How can I encourage her to nest in the pan?? Also, SUCH a sweet video! I love your birdies🤩
Timbrados are close to my soul I just laid Hawkeye to eternal rest in my backyard he died suddenly of a respiratory disease there was no time my 💔 is broken . Hawkeye Oct 2019 to Oct 12 2023 End of Watch. 😢🐥🐣😢
Some people say a seed diet is too fatty and that pellets / fresh food is better with seeds given in smaller amounts. What do you think? I'm hoping to get my first canary soon 😊
I think that is often said about parrots, canaries and other finches usually will be ok on a seed diet if they have plenty of space for them to exercise, tho I would say that the daily serving of egg food may be a bit overboard
Please is there any link on how to place the wood sticks inside? how many sticks? space between them? my canary is super scared and he keeps taking his tail feather and doesn't like to take him out of the cage. he is 4 years old gloster canary.
Hi I've had 2 out of 3 canaries die they stay puffed up for so many weeks then eventually I find them dead. I've asked the pet shop I got them from and they have had no other reports of others dying
Did you give them a balanced diet (not mainly seeds)? Change and clean their water dish often? Is the cage you had them in too small? Maybe you’ve placed their cage near a draft. Pet store birds usually have bad genetics so sometimes it’s out of our hands… Try to buy from a reputable seller that cares about their birds
can a female canary incubate the eggs and raise the young herself how many times can I help feed the little ones and put them back in the dressing room 🙏🙏
My canaries and finches love weeds I pull out of the garden, of course only edible ones like plantain, lambs quarter and dandelion, I jut throw them in whole and they chew em apart
Canaries are great but I think most popular breeds hv genetic problems just like dogs for example, for that reason I choose to keep raza Espanola and Portuguese arlequim I also have mosaic canaries but I'm not happy with them
my mother in law has a female and male canary. she has laid 3 lots of egg but nothing has hatched. she lays 2 at a time. overnight she has laid 2 more but has no interest in them. what should we do any ideas would be much appreciated
I keep fife fancy mostly but i dont sell/participate in shows, do you recommend participating in shows even with non show quality birds? It always feels like the elitism amongst the bird community is too toxic, with a loot of old keepers dying without even revealing their tips/secrets
Speaking about the types of canaries it is not fair not talk about Walterslager, American singer, Roller & etc these are the most liked & kept canaries in UAE, US, Belgium, Turkey etc
I just have one word...WHY??? Why are the birdnests so disgutingly dirty? Why are there no natural branches...only plastic? Why are their cages they live in, SO small (I do not mean the showcages) Why why why? They have nothing to do in those horrible cages? I think the Canarypeople have to step up and provide the birds with a better and more natural, cleaner, livingsituation... It makes me so sad...angry....
The nests sites are replaced each clutch, they do get dirty when the chicks are pooing over the side. Cleaning them whilst chicks are still in the nest risks the mother abandoning them For the young birds I will often use plastic for hygiene purposes. Young birds have a weaker immune system, therefore using wooden perches which can harbour bacteria more easily can pose risk to the young. The cages are plastic for the same reason, hygeine. The cages. Canaries are not intelligent by comparison to parrots, corvids and some other species, therefore toys are of no benefit to them. Canaries are somewhat sociable, therefore are always kept in a minimum of pairs, during the breeding season (when this was filmed) keeping them in any larger groups risks injury to one another when in breeding condition. A cage mate provides plenty of mental stimulation, but also they have newspaper to shred and nest material provided. You ask about a more ‘natural’ environment. For reference, canaries are a domestic species, therefore don’t have natural requirements unlike other species. Particularly for heavier breeds such as Norwich, a natural environment would more likely cause them mobility problems.

Good work Oliver! Thanks for using my footage on this useful video!
Thanks again!
Have a great weekend Ollie! Thank you for the info!
Well, I'm not in the UK but this video was very helpful, anyway! Thanks a bunch for making it!
Glad it was helpful!
Very good video Oliver! Hope You will do more like this one with diferent bird species ! 👍👍👍
Some good information there mate, top video as always 👏 👌 👍
That type canary is not naturally occurring and I wish people wouldn't produce animal mutations with curved spines and other deformities.
Tell us a little bit more please, Seriously, no sarcasm here at all. Just so I don't buy them.

If I ever get a canary as a pet and the bird happens to be red. I am going to name it red from the angry birds game.
Ok, thanks for letting us know 👍

Great video and wish there is more info like this out there. Keep these type of videos coming man 👍👍👍
For finches at least you can remove the material from the wrong pan to discourage her. Also don't let her breed too much in a year,

I remember when breeders cross bred border canary hen with male linnets for a beatuful song.

Can you post the ingredients in your mixed blend of food???

I have 2 pet canaries
Where can I buy canary leg ring ?
Thanks
Will they get dad if I replace their egg with a fake one ?
We have lot canary on indonesia😁
Hello i have a question, could you help?
The last canary in the video what is their name
How to buy in india?
Nice video, but what person decides to name their bird food "rape"
Ummm. You showed a picture of the canary Islands. But to my recollection they are named for the dogs (canines) that lived there. Not canarys.
Where are you because I will bye 1
I'm not a fan of keeping a bird in a cage. I think they should be able to get out or have a large cage to fly around in at the very least.
