It didn't stop the jailing of another Australian Whistleblower who called out war crimes in Afghanistan.
David McBride a former joint UK/Australian military officer jailed for 5 years for whistleblowing on war crimes.
He was actually a military lawyer trained as an officer at Sandhurst.
The US forced the Australian government to imprison him because he exposed JSOC war crimes.

Whatever Julian Assange has done, he has suffered enough for it and should be freed. As a comment has said, he has been detained long enough and in poor health, and it is not in anyone’s interests to pursue this case further. Britain does not have to be a poodle of the U.S. and automatically grant every request put in to it by the U.S. This is one request that Britain should refuse.
