hey Hulk, when you lift a 2 ton weight in the gym to a height H, that is stored energy. If it falls back to the ground it can crush things, make hole etc. If you control the fall, you can drive a generator and get electricity.

On a coal Reserve you can produce higher grades of fuel than just call and you can do so for under $0.02 a kilowatt-hour delivered. Nobody is going to spend 5 and 1/2 cents per kilowatt hour for one specific reason the 5 and 1/2 Cent per kilowatt-hour does not include the opportunity cost of the 7 billion dollars to store small amount of energy for a few hours. The opportunity cost is you don't disrupt the use of petroleum. Yeah, reused aggregate, but is the cement reused? If not then it is a lot of co2 from converting all the limestone into new cement.
