We could also use the old shafts of the former underground mines.

Making vertical holes is not that difficult. An excavator could to that.
The issue would be water filling up the hole :-)

@@funny-video-RUclips-channel Yeah, that's true. Drilling isn't a problem. You can use a small hole driller and make a vertical spot.
But for a 30m hole with 1m diamater you will have to use high density materials to get proper weight. Lead, brass, etc.
Making larger scale holes - like old mine shafts - can be very expensive.

*Simple and beautiful. If it works,* then it can help humanity to clean up the planet faster and cheaper. A good solution that will also be very profitable for anyone who sells electricity.

This is my choice for video of the year! No announcement or news could make me happier. The total energy cost in a solar + EnergyVault is only $.5/kW above a gas plant!? Is this even a choice? Now it’s just a matter of financing to replace all fossil fuel electricity generation (how about amplifying Green New Deal funding with near zero interest money from the Fed/Treasury: QE for Cheap&Clean E!). Even with electric cars affordable with a 100 mile range, at least every family’s second car can be an affordable electric with current technology costs for batteries. The only announcement that could rival this for me: cheap electric storage for cars and trucks. We are within range of solutions for the greatest part of human caused climate change... solutions that will create jobs, make our roads quieter and our air cleaner. We can and will dial back emissions to net ZERO before 2030! Thanks Bill Gross, you’ve made my day. Now we just need better ways to onboard humanity - because (as it stands) 792 views for this on RUclips is just a start. This story needs to get out to reorient the public discourse and our representatives towards the bold solutions that will generate clean energy, abundance and jobs. We are designing a game and tv show to make this fun and popular. Would be great to have IdeaLab’s imprint on this too. scott@vineberg.com

it will NEVER work. wind alone will kill this project. try see some dokumentary about how crane work ;) wind above 10m/s and this won't work. funny. it's about 10m/s+ windmills work the best.

I know how we can solve the problem of wind blowing the cranes over and what to do with overcrowded prison population. Replace cranes with pulley system powered by prisoners ha ha

Yeah, reused aggregate, but is the cement reused? If not then it is a lot of co2 from converting all the limestone into new cement.

    • @davemwangi05
      @davemwangi05 5 лет назад +1

hey Hulk, when you lift a 2 ton weight in the gym to a height H, that is stored energy. If it falls back to the ground it can crush things, make hole etc. If you control the fall, you can drive a generator and get electricity.

Wow although I watch this at a higher speed than other viewers this distinction between the two different specifications of energy which is how much does it cost per 1 hour to build the bank first and how much does it cost to put your money in the bank and take it out the number that this man gives at the end of this sales pitch of three and a half cents which is almost 200% of the cost of the energy itself and other words he's tripling the cost of the energy by delaying its use, and he thinks that that is cheaper then what the coal owners can reduce the cost of coal to. It is not.
On a nuclear aircraft carrier we use uranium to produce jet fuel. On a coal Reserve you can produce higher grades of fuel than just call and you can do so for under $0.02 a kilowatt-hour delivered.
Nobody is going to spend 5 and 1/2 cents per kilowatt hour for one specific reason the 5 and 1/2 Cent per kilowatt-hour does not include the opportunity cost of the 7 billion dollars to store small amount of energy for a few hours.
The opportunity cost is you don't disrupt the use of petroleum. You tie up all of the money that the investment banks have to invest subsidizing an insignificant market share with nonsensical high cost in capital and maintenance Ventures like wind or non concentrating photovoltaic.
The most precious resource is our brain power oh, the second most precious resource is the labor that the rest of us have and the various other resources Beyond energy like quote recycled aggregate. SoftBank believes it can divert the Recycled aggregate into these towers where it is relatively impotent against the Big Oil Enterprises. Big oil has so much to lose they will be very crafty and keeping us verifit another words without the trillions of dollars to borrow regardless of how compelling our proposal is because they've already blown it on such mad indefensible Ventures like BP Solar or this one fourth the cost of Pumped Hydro power nonsense.
The Recycled Aggregates is worth far more. The money is worth far more than 3.5 sense of additional cost for the electrical time-shifted renewable energy.
SoftBank needs to be robbed of the capitol that they are scheming to tie up. Keep your shoes on your feet,! Keep your legs closed until somebody explains how they are going to compete against basically free dirt being burned. We can do that we can actually do it with relative ease but don't expect investment Banks to think that new Investments can make them more than protecting their mistaken lost Capital which is almost all the capital in the world it's already been spent. The new money has to be free to flow and destroy the returns that are only expected not guaranteed. This Venture is all about protecting the old money from disruption. this guy sold plans for $4 I used to buy plan although I'm younger than him I used to buy plans when I was younger than he was when he was selling plans and I have been open to truth and knowledge since I have a quit my quit myself with all of the insides of Western civilization and not just Western Civilization scientific and mathematical and the far more important ones as well and I can tell you Dad storing energy is not worth its cost you just have to move it. Wasting energy is how you cost engineer the use of the cheapest energy you don't pay $0.02 an hour a kilowatt hour for energy that is far too much even if it is at the time you need it. You get it for free and you spend far left in 5 and 1/2 cents delivering it. That is what competition would allow if the world is free to invest its money based upon pure review not about not upon the special interests of the old white guys without modesty.

13 minutes after nine minutes in which means that well into the ninth minute where the timer says 8 minutes and 30 seconds 45 seconds whatever something like that this speaker says there's three ways and he defines the third way as not including centrifugal storage but then he provides a pricing sheet where the First Technology mentioned is that $0.45. I actually know about this technology and I know what the math which most people don't know says about optimizing it. I researched this a decade or two ago and back then a master student in India had the same values that are presented in this keynote speech and so he did the calculus I know that's kind of quaint that's old school but the funny thing is when you do the equation something becomes the parent that is ignored in this lecture.
It has been sickly politically correct to optimize for the rotational rate. Engineers have made very short radius spinning masses because it is easier to spend things faster if you can put them in an underground concrete bunker so that when you get to start over and try out A New Concept which is so much fun you don't kill everybody.
The engineering is Newtonian at best and not even that of course because it doesn't recognize that the rotational speed is relative the Earth is not holding still in the Flywheel spinning you might as well say the Earth is spinning in the flywheel is holding still what i n Stein tata's is that such things are relative it is not that we were wrong when we said that the sun circles around the Earth but that we didn't have the conceptual sophistication to understand that it simplifies modeling the path of the planets to say we are going around the Earth but that when you are trying to do something like store energy you can use that more sophisticated conceptual framework of Relativity to understand that every flywheel is not an island but it is moving relative to other Mass. So there is the breaking math and it is the differential between the spinning math and the breaking math that you extract the energy by. So then you go back to the Master's thesis and you solve for the appropriate X which is the exact same exponent which is an integral exponent and it is the radius. So under Barack Obama there was a African-American entrepreneur who proposed the very high velocity flywheels and large numbers of them so you would have a honeycomb of these bunkers and these insanely fast expensive and the math is devastating because all you need is an Old Ferry Go Round And for a couple hundred dollars you can do better than the millions of dollars wasted. Did a computer cabinet of course in the server room real estate is artificially expensive so you don't tend to bring in the Ferris wheels in the clean rooms in the secure rooms in the actual bunkers that are in Fort Knox or whatever if you are trying to get the penta not the Pentagon cloud storage contract and you don't care about the cost efficiency of your emergency backup power. So that's the $0.45 metric it's for supercomputers it's for Server Farms it's not for storing mechanical energy from renewable sources or as the speaker talks about the Hiroshima as per second that the extra carbon is giving us in terms of heat being in that thin layer of gas.
This is extremely important that the radius exponentially increases the amount of energy that you store. So for example if you have a very large circular path you can push math you can make a ring of math that is just dirt something that is non compressible that's not going to flash so that you don't have to reinforce it every fraction of an arc thousands of little gnats or whatever around the big disc or whatever. You don't have to have a road you don't have to have it track you just have to have a bank like for example a meteor or a mountain structures around the valley. This is a low RPM moving math so it doesn't have to be perfectly circular it doesn't have to be all that well lubricated it just has to be massive.
The radius is the leverage that you have against the mass of the Earth!
the speaker does not understand the analogies between gravitational forces and inertial forces does not understand when i n Stein inferred and has been verified since about where that's a good analogy and where the analogy is not the best. You can have 2 Circle Arrow path of multiple miles in radius, count Contra spinning so that the sky is falling crowd does not blow up your construction site for screwing around with the Earth. The system can be neutral as to torquing the globe along the implied access.
add original duration of the speech there are four minutes and eight seconds left so that's not even 2% it's not even 2 minutes in excess of two minutes and I'm going to finish this presentation but as I have said in the other video without a Futures market for energy itself not for liquefied natural gas or oil or sweet crude or heavy crude or light crude or uranium ore gigawatts of foldable tag Farm but actual energy abstract Lee energy you can't have a free market. Those who know where the oil is one to tax carbon so that they can prevent disruption. I did not say 1/2 I said the petroleum industry is what brought us foldable tag solar energy through BP Solar I said photovoltaic. the fossil fuel industry understands that they will continue to sell and to generate carbon or oxidized there carbon into the atmosphere and they can make a lot of money storing the car of it is cetera all money the world has to pay for instead of peace or nutrition or education we will see more and more foldable tag solar Farms we will see more and more wind farms we will see more and more Nuclear Power Plant all in the service of making money fighting Wars Etc because we do not have scientists or mathematicians being hired to work for the world's people but rather only for their predators. It is the free market that can best slay the petroleum industry. You're not going to tax coal away from being burned, the taxes just provide price supports and those price of forests are what pays for the cost of extracting it by removing the mountains that may just have the thinnest of tops upon the coal reserves
