- Six former law enforcement officers from Rankin County have pleaded guilty to federal civil rights offenses related to the abuse of two Black men.
The officers, Brett McAlpin, Jeffrey Middleton, Christian Dedmon, Leonard Elward, Daniel Updyke, and Joshua Hartfield, made their initial court appearances for their involvement in the beating and sexual assault of Michael Corey Jenkins and Eddie Parker.
The officers face charges of conspiracy against rights, deprivation of rights under the court of law, conspiracy to obstruct justice, and obstruction of justice. Additional charges of using firearms during an act of violence have been brought against Dedmon and Elward, which carry a potential life sentence if convicted.
Jenkins and Parker filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against Rankin County seeking $400 million in damages.
Roland Martin spoke with John C. Barnett, a civil rights activist about this disturbing case.

No doubt about it , just look at the racist in Louisiana who brutally beats a black man and gets away with it , or the racist in Ohio who let the dog loose on a black truck driver with his hands in the air . There are two black cops in Marksville, Louisiana serving forty years for an incident similar to Tamir Rice's case . But the racist who shot this kid didn't serve a day in jail .
News outlet Mississippi Today and The New York Times did a joint investigation into the RCSO or Rankin County Sheriff's Office and dug up other members of the goon squad police gang which has many members and found violence going back to 2004 and many incidents just like this. They used blow torch's and different kinds of tasers and beat people that the police had used police informants to sell small amounts of drugs to in their own homes in the dead of night. They even rammed a stick down a mans throat until he vomited blood. I hope TNYT and national news investigate police precincts all over AmeriKKKistan. The FBI released a report in 2009 that sais Nazi's are becoming police but it's the other way around police were always Nazi's.
I believe these cops have done this before, they may be dealing with serial killers. My god, its absolutely horrible.

If you had to hire police force ( kinda like a broker hires their RE agents), what kinda credentials or key words would you expect to see on an admission application that you would approve before giving a badge and firearm?

The state of Florida and Minnesota have the highest prerequisite standards for potential or prospective officers. Most states mandate you have a clean record and a diploma. Minnesota requires you have an associate degree or higher. Just because you have some level of higher education and training doesn’t mean you will be a better cop.

Minnesota is not much better than any other state on police issues. There is no amount of education can change how they treat black folks and views of blacks. Education just makes them better at twisting the truth.

@@nux2k my bad. A very good friend and colleague told me at the time he obtained his peace officer license m, that Florida and Minnesota had the highest standards at that time. It may have been amended or changed by now. Still the point I was trying make is you can set their educational requirements high and they still commit acts that are criminal. Having a bachelors degree does not mean you will make good sound decisions.

A H.S. Diploma? Gary Owen tell ‘em, should be the same education all across the board. 60plus college credits. I think we should add mandatory community service 40-60 hours(split up) a year in a marginalized community-Elderly, youth, development delayed, immigrant, low income… etc.
Good luck with that when poor towns are lucky to come up with $13,000 for a part-time salary and $19,000 for a full-time salary. My town constantly hemorrhages new hires because we don’t have the tax base for increased salaries. We’re going to be in deep doo doo when the current sheriff, our only consistent law officer for decades, retires. People were getting on him at town council for not catching speeders. He, the only town officer at the time, said he had more important cases like domestic abuse, drug trafficking, and sex trafficking to deal with. Btw, if we send someone to county for holding until their trial, it comes out of town law enforcement’s budget for that person’s daily costs. Then we have even less to pay for additional officers, let alone officers when any kind of enhanced education. No one who invests that kind of money into becoming an officer is going to want live and work in a small town. They’ll be lucky to feed their families when they’re often paid less than teachers, and we know teachers are paid crap in a lot of states.
