    How you originally had the couch looked the best.. You could put a plant or lamp in the little corner next to the pillar.. A book shelf at the pillar.. couch next to it and console behind the couch ❤

    The couch looks best as it was before. Somehow when furniture are not pushed against the walls the room looks bigger and more expensive :)

    Bedroom wall for sure! A large plant in front of the pillar 👌🏼

  • @charmainemangiagalli

    You know what could work if you put a plant by the pillar that could help hide the pillar and would not have it off center to much. With the couch on the opposite side to the kitchen you could still get the same size rug. Just an idea.

    I love the couch on the bedroom wall and then a buffet across from it in between the kitchen and the pillar. Then you could place a lamp or small side table next to the window with some plants.. I would just decorate around the pillar

    You could use a large artist eisel as your TV stand...I've seen it done and it looks so artistic and cozy plus you can easily move it and no damage to walls (& easy to plug in from)

    i like the couch on the other wall a lot more! it looks nice. I think I would put the TV on the wall mounted on the part that sticks out and then put book shelves on the rest of the wall. If you are doing a buffet, you could do hanging book shelves above or if you want to have a library feel, I would do long bookshelves. Under the mounted TV you could put a bar card sort of thing so the TV is not so alone on the pillar?

  • @LindavanderVeen
    @LindavanderVeen 3 месяца назад +19

    Another idea. Set the couch where it was before, but 2 feet or so from the wall and pillar. Than put bookcases or shelves next to the pillar on the right side, woth the same depth as the pillar, and fill out the gap between the pillars with them. So it appears a straight wall.

  • @Jasmine-hh3kt

    I actually like it how you had it in front of the pillar, with your idea of the console table behind. Being off-centre and looking into the doors would annoy me too.
    It does look good on the opposite wall too, and that would mean having conversations between the kitchen and the living area would be easier when you have visitors.
    Your Kitchenaid looks great - that colour goes really well with your kitchen. You’ll love it! I’ve had one for over 10 years - so useful!

    I would put the TV next to the pillar in that recessed area, then if you put a few more photos/painting to the right of the TV you won't have to center it because the art on both sides will balance it out. I hope that makes sense.

    I would put the couch next to your bedroom door, TV up on the pillar and then plants next to the windows, and on the right side of the pillar high and deep bookcas, so that it looks like builtin library. BTW the set of drawers you ordered reminds me furniture in your first appartement on Toronto.

    I love the sofa by the bedroom door! Our TV is super off centre in our place, but it’s on a wall mount so we can pull it out and face it towards the sofa when in use. I love that it’s not the centre of attention in the living room :)
    Also, yes absolutely curtains must kiss the floor!! Would return and buy longer ones xx

    You are overthinking it. Keep the couch on the bedroom wall and buy a sideboard and center that in the nook across from the couch. TV does not need to be centered with the couch. Like someone said - get a plant for the bump out in the living room.

  • @melissaburnie

    I don't mind either position, but if you put the couch on the bedroom wall you could use a smaller tv unit, then a tall bookcase to mirror the pillar and create symmetry.

    I liked the couch where you had it before in front of the pillar. It will look a lot more balanced once you have a couch table behind it with a lamp. What about two swivel chairs floating out between the tv wall and the couch to create conversation area? If you have people over and they want to watch tv from the chairs, they can just turn them towards the tv? Thanks for sharing your progress making your new place a home!

    About the placement of the couch...Think, what is it that you want to see in front of you when sitting in the couch? Buffet with TV? Bookselves? Or the view of the window ? (I don't remember though what view your window has).If you want to look straight at the window then you have to put your couch watching the window and this way you can differentiate the kitchen from the living room too

  • @kellyo8742

    I would suggest centering the sofa in the whole space, between the window and end of the living room space. And sounds like a great idea to put a sofa back table in that niche.

  • @rebeccacartier153

    Personally I don’t own a tv, I don’t really watch television, but I love a cozy movie night.. so I have a projector. The space in between the pillar and the kitchen would be a great space to project onto. That way I don’t have to look at a tv constantly when I’m not using it, and you can pack away a projector easily (mine is the size of a soda can), and I don’t have to worry as a renter about tv mounts and the such.

    Rachel, you are the one that has to live in your space. If you liked the sofa best where you originally had it so you could center the media console on oposite wall in front of the sofa, then you do what will make you most comfortable. I know you will make it absolutely beautiful when it is all said an done.
    I did like someone elses comment about having your couch where you liked it, but pulling it a little closer to your media console. Then finding some shelving units the same width as the pillar and you could use the shelves to display decor , maybe have some baskets or pretty boxes and use those for some extra storage (camera equipment, stationery/office supplies). As the other person mentioned it would make the pillar less prominent and your living room a little cozier like you are looking for.

  • @gria2003
    @gria2003 3 месяца назад

    Just an idea. I would leave the couch there. On the side where it has a little bit of space I would get one of those tables that go under the couch feet to put drinks on there. Get a plug that is like an extension cord for the outlet behind there or you could get a light that slides under the couch in the corner there too. On the other side where there is a lot of space I would put in nice size and table there and in that little corner space I would find a small little shelf so you can put books and knickknacks just my idea then you can put a nice piece of artwork on the wall and angle your TV just slightly.

    You said you don't like the width or was it the length of the living room. So, what if you put the buffet with the tv on top of it at a comfortable distance from the couch and put the rug the way you like it and then put decor in the space behind the tv.
    Yes, you'll have to deal with the cords, but you can get a white or black cord hider that is made for being flat on the floor and paint it the same color as the floor so it blends in.
    You could still put an accent table beside that pillar. Or maybe you could make it into a reading nook. Or you could put an artificial fireplace, or your desk there instead and depending on the amount of room from behind the tv to the wall make the area in front of the window and pillar into a little reading nook.

  • @Styledandorganized
    @Styledandorganized 3 месяца назад

    I dont think everything needs to be perfectly centered to look good, and Im a perfectionist borderline OCD and those things usually bother me lol but if you center the couch to the space, the rug centered to the couch as well as a coffee table, and only have the tv unit a bit off center, it’d still look great. Im currently seating in my living room watching this and I have a faux fireplace that had to naturally be where I would mount the TV and the couch would only fit on the opposite wall, but because the door to the living room is also on the opposite wall, I couldnt fully center the couch, but it still looks perfect. I used the largest rug that would fill the space, centered it to the couch and the coffee table centered to both, and I cannot even notice that the tv is not right on the center. And I know I have it above the fireplace but it’d be exactly the same if it was a tv unit there.

  • @estherestelle7920

    Don't feel like everything has to be up against the wall. Floating the sofa away from the wall on the window side allows you to walk all the way around the sofa and look out the window. I don't know if you have a TV or what your budget is for it but those free standing TVS that you can move from room to room could allow more flexibility.

    The chaise by the wall of the doors is a better arrangement. White hutch buffet on the opposite wall with a TV stand. Either a floor lamp in the nook by the pillar or a tall tree in a white pot filled with moss (faux preference). I would remove that painting on the pillar. It distracts the alignment of that space. A simple coffee table with a cozy rug. I prefer minimal decor. Keeping it simple and clean helps clear my mind from unnecessary chaos. However, you decide to decorate your space is entirely up to you, your personal touches will make it a home. Simplicity, clean, airy but homey feel for me helps my mind stay calm.

    The couch doesn’t have to be against a wall if you don’t like a big space. Is there enough space to pull the couch closer to the tv wall and leave a bigger gap behind the couch? So that it fits nicely with the rug. If a room is big then all the furniture against the wall doesn’t always look the best. It doesn’t look like a huge room though.

  • @christiana783
    @christiana783 3 месяца назад +1

    The couch makes more sense and looks best where it was originally. I would keep it there but move it over ever so slightly so that it's in line with the piece of the wall that juts out. Then you can put a table or maybe a plant or floor lamp in that little nook to fill it out and make it look less awkward. I also like the shelf/table behind the couch to maximize the space. You could even lean some art pieces back there.

    The couch is better the way you had it in the beginning of the video. It makes more sense. The tv would look better up against your bedroom side wall. You dont have too have the couch right up against the wall. Pull it out a little bit towards Tele wall. ‘’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’or atleast try that configuration when you get everything. Tv Buffett, rug, art, it will all come together

    I say put the couch on the pushed out wall and get a console table behind the couch

    Can you pull the couch further forwards off the wall with the pillar so that you can create a desk space behind the couch into the gap between the kitchen and the pillar? Create two “zones” in that space? Also definitely get curtains to the floor!

    I would have the couch facing the window , set back enough to have a TV to one side. A console behind facing ghe kitchen to break up the back view of the couch

    I like the original placement of the couch better however if you like it against the opposite wall what you could do is get a bunch of bookshelves to fill the space

    We have an extremely wide living room too, I pushed the couch forward and made a large enough gap for a desk and it's perfect

    I would adsolutely put the coach on the last wall you tried. It will make sense when you get the tv on the opposite wall. It doesn't matter if it's not perfect straight across from eachother. You will be abel to watch the tv any way. Somethimes you just need to make the best of it and don't think about it beeing perfect or not.

    Have you tried not having the lounge against a wall? If you dont care about optimising space, then you could try putting a tv on a stand on the wall with the pillar and pushing the lounge over. Hang some art on the pillar and put a bigger floor lamp next to the window/pillar.

    I liked the first idea you came up with, with the couch. Otherwise, I would probably have chosen a sofa with chechalon on the other side and put a pouf, armchair or similar in the corner in front, where the wall goes out🥰❤️

    Adding my 2c worth to the couch situation. I liked it best where you had it first. As someone who doesn't have my furniture up against the wall, I use the space to keep my fitness equipment out of sight. Weights, yoga mats, and other bits that need somewhere to go, but easily accessible.

    I like your first plan with a console behind the couch with plants and a lamp. I’d add a little bookshelf between couch and window.

    I think plop the couch where you had it before! Then it will be in the centre of the opposite wall and you could put a console table something against the wall behind the couch! Or maybe some kind of bookshelf?

    Lovely so far but don't forget that you may need space for a desk in your living room too x

    Don't overpurchase. You might be out of that house much sooner than you think.
