Our machine can control the amount of coffee grinding but not the amount of brewing, so when you set up 4 cups, it grinds 4 cups of coffee powder, but the machine will not automatically brew 4 cups instead of brewing all the water in the water tank. Therefore, when you need 4 cups of coffee, please fill the glass with 4 cups and pour it directly into the water tank, then you can get the amount of coffee you need. If you put more water, the machine will use all the water. Example: you set your 4 cups, the machine will grind coffee for 4 cups. Once the grind operation is done, it will start boiling the water and slowly send the hot water to the coffee drip until water in the tank is finished. If you put inside the machine 6 cups of water , and you set the grinder to 4 cups, you will have in the end 6 cups of coffee into the pot. Well, probably only 5.5 cups since about 1/2 cup might go out in steam. The result will be a coffee that is lighter in taste. Bottom line : the machine will make use of all the water in the tank.
