@@ald8612 and the reason for that is because their teeth are constantly growing and if they don’t chew on things their teeth can actually grow out of their mouth and into their jaw which requires medical surgery to cut off the excess teeth and stitch the wound, and let’s be honest nobody wants that
rabbits are actually really high maintenance and it takes a lot of time effort and trust to build your relationship to where they’ll cuddle with you and come to you they are prey animals so their natural instinct is to always have their guard up
Not true with my first rabbit. It didn't take that long to earn his trust, as long as I respected his boundaries (i.e. not picking him up and petting him in his preferred areas). And I don't know what you mean by high maintenance. Give them space to run around, a litter box if they're inside and plenty of things to chew and they'll be happy. It's expensive when any living being gets sick, especially if you live in a country without universal health care. You can train them for Bunny show jumping. It's a great way to bond, and to give them exercise and stimulation so they don't get up to too much mischief. (But they'll always have some mischief in them.)

Rabbits are NOT low maintenance. They require a lot of exercise, you are constantly cleaning up after them, you have to rabbit proof your home or they'll chew everything up. **Ok for the people who won't shut the hell up, even though it's been over a year and I had already explained my situation several times, here's an update. My rabbit is almost 4 and has been without another rabbit for 3 years now, and is happy and doing wonderfully. we give him lots of necessary love and attention. and we also have gotten another rabbit within the past year, we'd like to try to bond them if we can, but we currently can't afford to get one of them fixed. we're actively working on it, though. so please, for the love of christ, stop spamming my damn notifications.** You don't need two and you don't need a mansion. I live in a three bedroom "mobile home" and my rabbit has a perfect amount of space to run around and play. You just need a decent amount of room for them to play in. And he also is perfectly fine by himself. And, in fact, LOTS of rabbits like to live by themselves and actually dislike living with other rabbits. (But, then again, that may vary depending on breed, age, and gender) (y'all in the replies omgg...some of you make valid points but some of y'all are js being ridiculous. it isn't animal cruelty when you literally have no other choice but to have 1 rabbit, or atleast 1 rabbit in the same cage area. I want to be able to bond my rabbit but I quite literally CANT. I have LITERALLY tried everything to bond my rabbit and both of them end up violent and try to kill each other over stupid shit like FOOD. they all end up being very territorial and my rabbit is also very territorial. not to mention, my rabbit is a MALE. y'all have no goddamn clue how hard it is to bond male rabbits. or even bond a male with a female. same thing goes for like guinea pigs and stuff, it's also pretty hard to bond two male guinea pigs. im not abusing my rabbit, calm down.)
I had a rabbit who listened to my each and every word since the day he came to my house, I never caged him and he was with me all the time, he used to sit on my lap and play with me. Sadly he passed away last year and I still have countless photos of him and us.
God I'm so sorry ! I have a couple rabbits myself. I also recently fell in love with a sweet adorable baby at a petsmart while getting supplies. Unfortunately she was a sick bunny. Had a neurological issue that made her have to run and charge things so hard with her head. I ended up taking her in the emergency vet on Christmas eve and having to put her down on Christmas this past year. It was the only thing they could do to stop her suffering. I still cry to this day. But I can imagine how much I would hurt if one of my rabbits I've had for a long time passed away. I think this was so hard because it was so painful to know she was suffering and I just would have given my life to save her. I hope u are okay. I'm just so sorry u have lost your furry friend. He sounds like he was an amazing friend to u. Hopefully u will see him in heaven hopping around when it's time. 😥💙🙏
Low maintenance is a myth. .... They require a lot of attention and love which will invariably make demands on time and money. I ' ve had Rabbits. One died two days ago and it's near death experience when someone loses a rabbit.❤️😔
Caring tips most owners don’t know: 1. Preferably the rabbit should not be forced to spend more than the night in their cage, no matter the size of the actual cage. 2. They need a steady diet of hay and pellets. Vegetables and fruits are good snacks but will hurt your rabbit’s stomach if too much. 3. Rabbits are almost always just as easy to potty train as cats and dogs. Just get a fairly big box, fill it with a universal litter, and cover it with a good layer of hay. 4. Never leave your rabbit alone with a cat or dog for too long as they have high likelihoods of heart attacks from stress. (Not to say these animals can’t be friends, just that’s there should be supervision) 5. Most rabbits aren’t made for the outdoors. There are a lot of predators and as stated earlier they can easily get a heart attack when stressed or scared meaning for most rabbits they can become aggressive or very shy when left alone outside. 6. Rabbits to NOT need salt stones nor water dispensers. The salt can cause the same poisoning as in humans and the water dispenser is like if we were to drink water from a straw when super thirsty. 7. If you want a calmer rabbit get a bigger (and/or older) one, do not rely on neutering to do the job as there’s a lot of possible complications with it. This comes from someone who has had rabbits since before I was born and some (if not all) of these were completely new to me.
They don't really need pellets at all. All they need is hay and that's about it. Not only is it the most nutritious but rabbits' teeth never stop growing so they need hay to file those teeth down to avoid their teeth growing too long.
From someone who had a rabbit which became 13 years old (his race usually just gets 6-7 years old): A rabbit needs NATURE - a garden is perfect and LOTS OF LOVE - you need to be consistent for many years like with a child. They are not "low maintenance" like the video says. Especially when they get ill (watch out for fly eggs and wet grass) they need a lot of care. Rabbits are amazing. Also Pro Tip: room temperature warm Camomille Tea to drink for the rabbit. It doesnt always have to be water, camimolle tea has great health benefits. And its extra amazing when you take rabbits from the animal shelter - they need you the most ❣️
God Favored rabbits. he said they were special to him. he said not to eat the animals that chewed their cud or had cloved hooves. God's judgement rabbits were special to him in a celebratory manner. they didn't call them rabbits and they called them Comey
I used to have rabbit for 10 years. I still love him so much, it behaved like a dog, he wanted me to take care of him all day long otherwise he was unhappy! He used to eat with me, to sleep when i was sleeping too. Just a perfect friend
My little guy who isn’t even a year old has learned to kick at the windows or anything glass to get my attention 🤣🤣🤣 he’s proven that he’s strong by breaking 2 of our windows
Not low maintenance, our first bunny didn't want many pets he was a rescue so we gave him his space. But years later with our new(er) bunny he adores pets and attention and flops dramatically if he is ignored for a moment 🤣 also bunnies usually require another bunny friend.
To anyone thinking of getting a rabbit, they *are not low maintenance* they are actually quite high maintenance, as they need a litter box which needs to be changed and cleaned, you might require to “bunny proof” your house, so they don’t chew wires, furniture, etc. They require hay, pellets, and a fair share of fruits/vegetables in their diet. (Fruits in moderation, as they are more like treats for them.) They also need to be brushed, as sometimes your rabbits will have trouble getting rid of fur that your rabbit is shedding. Not to mention rabbits are free-roam pets, meaning they are happiest without a cage, and when they are able to roam the house. Rabbit also can be quite emotional, as they can get mad at you, and when you first get them, it takes a long amount of time to build trust with them. Rabbits are not low maintenance, but they make a wonderful addition to your home if you play your cards right. ❤
We do have a cage outside but in tge Netherlands its rarely warm so its good weather for them :). They have a very big space like more than 20 metres easily so 😅
It's sad that cleaning a litterbox, bunny proofing, and feeding hay is considered "high maintenance" lol It's way easier than having to walk a dog various times in the day and having to pick up stinky poop, while the whole neighborhood watches, and then carry it in a bag close to you. Imo that's much worse xD
Well said! Full marks to you on that . I have seen even the most educated and qualified people , even Vets who claim to be Supernatural look stupid when it comes to handling a rabbit. They will talk about wildlife, their heroics in photography and writing and PR but don't want to learn anything about an animal or a bird , let alone a rabbit. At times " these people" can be nasty....
Tbh All pets need that, and a dog needs even more space and attention. People really are lazy if they consider free-roaming and cleaning a litterbox "high maintenance" lol
They're about as low maintenance as having children are ! Definitely NOT low maintenance. And that's why they are 1 of the most abandoned pets. Also highly abused because ppl think u can just keep them in a cage and just have to feed/water/change bedding. I've had many different pets. Hamsters, birds, ferrets, cats, dogs, fish, and of course rabbits. And the rabbits by far require the most care. And they aren't cheap to raise either, if u are doing it right. And because they're considered exotic, the veterinary care can be quite costly.
Had 2 senior and half-blind rabbits for about 2 years now. Absolutely amazing animals, they love each other and are inseparable, highly recommend getting multiple!
I have two bunnies that I got during COVID, they are my special babies, they love me and sleep on my bed, I love watching them hop and play and they are always really good at the vet since they trust their vet. Love my buns ❤
This guy's clearly never owned a rabbit. High-matentence, very skittish, chew on everything (especially phone cables and baseboards), poop everywhere, shed a lot, and cuddle very rarely. But they're pretty cute so it's all worth it.

@@azzyazeez i think there is no such thing as a low maintenance pet. Every pet requires something and even different breeds of any animal require different things

And that was possible because they rabbit was free roaming, not a rabbit kept in a cage or pen all the time, which is animal torture since rabbits need to jump, hop, run, and exercise so much.

But they are definitely not low maintenance! 😂 They require alot of work and care to ensure they are properly cared for. And if you want them to be completly comfortable around you and not shy, you need to spend alot of time with them
What they never mention: -rabbits shit 1500 to 2000 times a day -they need a safe spot outside or they could get taken by an eagle or snake -they pee the same amount as us humans -they so cute its all worth it❤
If you let them outside, which they live for, they attract fleas like a magnet. Also had to stretch netting above the grassy area due to dive bombing birds of prey.
@@EgoRaptorLP not true- anywhere is dangerous there’s not only predators but ticks, fleas, parasites, etc to look out for- with indoor living you can make sure nothing bad can happen to your rabbit it’s responsible to keep your rabbits indoors- very neglectful to leave them outdoors to fend for themselves and risk diseases and parasites.
Actually they need to be brushed regularly, bc rabbits lose soo much fur. I can fill a big cup of rabbit fur when my rabbit starts shedding. And there no as easy as u think. They can be very destructive and chew ur cords, bed frame(wood) and stuff u have sitting out. And do not belong on cages! Plus they need a water dish rather than a bottle.
I disagree with the grooming part, because they shed a LOT not even just the lionheads, they need to be brushed and have their nails clipped. You should really add grooming because not doing so will turn into a disaster. I rescued two lionheads. One SEVERELY matted and nails not even trimmed. It was so long it was visibly painful for them to walk or stand up
As someone with rabbits, I laughed at "relatively low maintenance". The amount of safety proofing, vacuuming and finding viable food/toys for them is... a lot.
Bunnies can be super special cuddly people. My childhood rabbit friend was great friends with our dog, cat & guinea pigs too. We all used to hang out & play together
Two big dogs got my rabbit. (They had to have help from a person to unlatch and slide up the door). Hawks, snakes, Bobcats, owls, foxes, coyotes...all want rabbit. A friend with a big house cat bought a tiny mini dutch. She left them alone, insisting they loved each other. (R i P Dutchy). Keep this in mind when you keep rabbits, please.
My 1 year old rabbet, named Libby. Died a few weeks ago..We don't know how or what happened. But watching all these rabbits and cute bunnies playing, having fun, warmed my heart. ❤
Oh no. That’s so very sad 😢 Well... nice that seeing these bunnies play warmed your heart, but very sad about Libby. I had a big bunny when I was young & we were best buddies who spent loads of time together. Often sharing the parsley plant in my Mum’s herb garden.
Our bunny spends hours cuddling, flopping & sleeping on our laps. But it takes a lot of time, attention & love to build a relationship with your rabbit. They’re prey animals & need to know they’re in a safe environment to feel secure enough to relax & flop. 🐇💕
From personal experience of owning bunnies, cats and dogs... bunnies are by far the most HIGH maintenance because of limited vet care, constantly buying a variety of greens, cleaning up poop and hay daily... not to mention one of my buns is a Holland Lop and like every lop, he needs his ears cleaned every 1-2 weeks (at least once a week during hot months) to prevent ear infections, a common health issue for most lops.
Every rabbit owner on here wants you to know, they are not low maintenance!! Dont keep them in your yard, indoors only. Also they can live anywhere from 10-12yrs, and the vet bills are pricey because they're considered exotic pets. I love my little guy and I'm planning on getting him a friend but its a lot of work, so be prepared.
@@thepiglife2591 Rabbits are prey animals and are easily frightened, so leaving them outdoors where wildlife can scare them is a terrible idea. They can quite literally get scared to death. Even if they cant physically get a hold of them. Take time to do your research and you will see that many people have lost their rabbits due to a fox, coyote, etc scaring them. You also have to consider the weather. They are susceptible to extreme heat and cold. Then you have to consider the enclosure itself, can an animal chew their way into it. There's far to many dangers in keeping them outdoors, it's not worth the risk.
@@mirjetaademaj8269 It really depends on what country you're in, where you live, if you have guard dogs, where the rabbits are placed outdoors wether it's in a barn or a hutch over ground. It rarely happens that they get scared to death. That's about responsibility not keeping them outside. Fence your garden up of you have that problem and don't let them on the ground 🤷 My outdoor rabbits in wire bottom cages are doing amazing. No wildlife can get to them, and they're definitely not scared of the dogs.
@@thepiglife2591 First, a hutch is never large enough to provide a good life for a rabbit, especially one with a wire bottom. There is no vet on this planet that would recommend a wire bottom for a rabbit. You're creating the issue of sore hocks which are extremely painful and can lead to other health issues. No matter the country, there is wildlife everywhere and there is no guarantee that guard dogs can stop them at all times. Even if you thinks its completely safe, a hutch will never be suitable housing for a rabbit! I have seen some people turn large sheds into rabbit homes, which if you can't keep them inside your home, is a much better alternative.
@@mirjetaademaj8269 A hutch can easily be enough, a lot of hutches are bigger than x-pens which I'm assuming you support. Sore hocks are genetics, if your rabbits has horrible genetics they will develop it on any surface, not just wire, a friend of mine rescued a rabbit with sore hocks who used to live on carpet, as soon as it came on wore bottom they healed. Another friend of mine used litter boxes, one of her rabbits developed sore hocks from that litterbox even though it was cleaned daily. Pure genetics love, it also depends on if you set the wire up correctly and the weight of the rabbit. Now guard dogs will scare of all the animals in the garden, if they didn't scare of one of them they will go and chase or attack it. One dog killed 10+ coyotes in one night, some of them scares of a bear that's not even a foot away even tho the bear was bigger than the dog. You don't know what those dogs are able to do. And hutches are suitable if you make them, unlike how unsupervised freeroaming never will be

True
Rabbits are NOT low maintenance. They require a lot of exercise, you are constantly cleaning up after them, you have to rabbit proof your home or they'll chew everything up. Plus they don't come automatically loving you...bonding with them takes a lot of time. They're prey animals so trust takes awhile to build. They also require varied diets...not just hay and pellets, but also vegetables. They're also fragile and NEED to be spayed/neutered or your life will be a nightmare.
Can you help explain why being spayed/neutered is so important? Does it impact their health as they age?
@@WingsxFreedomBecause if you have a pair of rabbits and they happen to be different sexes, you could easily end up with 8 babies unintentionally.

**Ok for the people who won't shut the hell up, even though it's been over a year and I had already explained my situation several times, here's an update. My rabbit is almost 4 and has been without another rabbit for 3 years now, and is happy and doing wonderfully. we give him lots of necessary love and attention. and we also have gotten another rabbit within the past year, we'd like to try to bond them if we can, but we currently can't afford to get one of them fixed. we're actively working on it, though. so please, for the love of christ, stop spamming my damn notifications.**
You don't need two and you don't need a mansion. (But, then again, that may vary depending on breed, age, and gender)
(y'all in the replies omgg...some of you make valid points but some of y'all are js being ridiculous. it isn't animal cruelty when you literally have no other choice but to have 1 rabbit, or atleast 1 rabbit in the same cage area.
Guess I got lucky with my rabbits, literally just lay around and do nothing apart from eat and shit
“Relatively low maintenance”
-someone who has never owned a rabbit
YESSSS they are quite high maintenance, if you want them to have a good life
OMG exactly I was scanning the comments for someone to say this
Low maintenance is a myth. .... They require a lot of attention and love which will invariably make demands on time and money. I ' ve had Rabbits. One died two days ago and it's near death experience when someone loses a rabbit.❤️😔
He clearly didn't have to change the couch because of a pee
Ikr I was hoping somebody said this! My three bunnies are very high maintenance, but I love them
Caring tips most owners don’t know:
(Not to say these animals can’t be friends, just that’s there should be supervision)
That was a lot of great information !
Woww..thankss
Heart attacks from cats 💀
They don't really need pellets at all. All they need is hay and that's about it. Not only is it the most nutritious but rabbits' teeth never stop growing so they need hay to file those teeth down to avoid their teeth growing too long.
Ps
They’ll chew any visible wires and poop like a thousand times a day lol
From someone who had a rabbit which became 13 years old (his race usually just gets 6-7 years old): A rabbit needs NATURE - a garden is perfect and LOTS OF LOVE - you need to be consistent for many years like with a child. They are not "low maintenance" like the video says. Especially when they get ill (watch out for fly eggs and wet grass) they need a lot of care. Rabbits are amazing. Also Pro Tip: room temperature warm Camomille Tea to drink for the rabbit. It doesnt always have to be water, camimolle tea has great health benefits. And its extra amazing when you take rabbits from the animal shelter - they need you the most ❣️
May I ask what type of breed and how much tea
God Favored rabbits. he said they were special to him. he said not to eat the animals that chewed their cud or had cloved hooves. God's judgement rabbits were special to him in a celebratory manner. they didn't call them rabbits and they called them Comey

We have a bunny and she is the absolute light of our lives. She’s hilarious and sassy but cuddly and social. Literally the perfect pet for us
Not low maintenance, our first bunny didn't want many pets he was a rescue so we gave him his space. But years later with our new(er) bunny he adores pets and attention and flops dramatically if he is ignored for a moment 🤣 also bunnies usually require another bunny friend.
That’s what I came here to say. They are so worth it though. I have 4.
Can you post a video of the flops please? Hehe 😊
They don't require a "friend"
They have a very big space like more than 20 metres easily so 😅
Its the funniest when they get mad, mine gets mad hen we come back from vacation.
Like, where have you been bitch!?!
@@mctheobeymebunny190 I mean when people just put their rabbits in those cages that are made for hamsters or guinea pigs

To be honest rabbits take as much care as a cat or a dog. Just because they are small doesn’t make them low maintenance-
From personal experience of owning bunnies, cats and dogs... bunnies are by far the most HIGH maintenance because of limited vet care, constantly buying a variety of greens, cleaning up poop and hay daily... not to mention one of my buns is a Holland Lop and like every lop, he needs his ears cleaned every 1-2 weeks (at least once a week during hot months) to prevent ear infections, a common health issue for most lops.
not at all! They're way less maintenance. Dog are by far way more expensive, time taking and needs.
Every rabbit owner on here wants you to know, they are not low maintenance!! Dont keep them in your yard, indoors only. I love my little guy and I'm planning on getting him a friend but its a lot of work, so be prepared.
They can easily be outside lmao
@@thepiglife2591 First, a hutch is never large enough to provide a good life for a rabbit, especially one with a wire bottom.
And hutches are suitable if you make them, unlike how unsupervised freeroaming never will be
I have two angel babies, lord I miss them. They're destructive little stinkers but my lord they had so much personality and were some of the most affectionate pets I ever had 💔
Im sorry for your loss 😢
@@woodox7086I've since gotten another rabbit, she was sort of an emergency drop in that ended up staying when her previous owner had a medical emergency.
Livy is my reason to get up in the morning and is every bit the little stinker her sisters were.
"They aren't that cuddly" say that to my rabbit who hasn't left my lap for an hour and when I stop petting him he throws a fit
"while they may not be as cuddly as oth-"
