It was much less socially acceptable to not serve alcohol at a wedding when this was filmed, nearly twenty years ago. The range of alcohol free beverages was small and gen y were a drinking generation. But the best idea would be to have a small amount on the table- like a couple of bottles of wine and a couple of beers, and then all the non alcoholic stuff at the bar.
18 years ago it was different. You would have been considered to be a terrible host if you didn't serve alcohol. They should have had real wine on the tables and maybe a few beers and then everything else be alcohol free.

That wedding designer and his assistant are horrible. I would run from them. A lot of people including myself don't drink and don't want to financially support drinking. If someone comes to my house for dinner and is my guest, they know they will not be served alchohol.
