- The Chant tries to do so many things at once, and what happens is that everything gets muddled up in that pursuit - and none of these elements get the love and opportunity to shine as bright as they could.
In addition to this, an underdeveloped plot that doesn’t do justice with its heavy themes and otherwise well-written characters alongside an underwhelming visual presentation also contributes to the feeling of the game being a missed opportunity. The Chant is not a bad game by any means, but it could have been so much better had it spent some more time in the oven.
I always put on my “indie goggles” for indie games. It’s dumb to think they’ll be like aaa games
I got an hour in and couldn’t proceed because I needed to kill a monster but I exhausted all my supplies, and I backtracked as far and everywhere I could to find sage
I bought the game blindly and honestly just had a blast 😌
Sure, the dialogue and plot could be improved, but I disagree that it's a clunky game.
I had fun and kept wanting to play the whole way through. Would recommend to anyone who likes horror (especially psychological).

To be fair psycho friend attacked first everything else was just self defense
if you get all the notes and view all the videos you'll see that that was a ritual described in one of them, so, not really out of nothing

@@reaperiwk7555 I liked it a lot. I rarely beat games and I was enjoying it so much I had to stop before I beat it. It’s not for everyone but I think for it was, it got more things right then wrong. It has a interesting story, linear path, unique creatures and solid plot. The gameplay mechanics worked well and the graphics were good to me.

Actually The opening was from the past in the 70s and the gameplay was the future tho. It even says the year and then present day.
The opening showed the failed ritual with the original guy and the pregnant girl. THEN it cuts to the future or “present day” where Jess comes in.

Too bad they put in action combat...Would have been better as a horror "walking sim" IMO. I like combat in games, but it has to be done well and really be the primary focus. Don't make me fight in your 3D game if you can't do it at least as well as Elden Ring or AC: Origins. I even find Skyrim too clunky to be fun.
Plenty of people are enjoying the story anyway. There is a rumour it is coming to Game pass so i'll hold off for that.

Thanks. The trailer and story line looked amazing. But then it launched with little fanfare and few reviews. I’ll wait for it to go on sale before buying it I think.
It’s great if you like cosmic horror. The endings will be unsatisfactory though. I suggest having body or spirit as your highest attribute bc mind is worst ending i got imo

Yeah I was thinking the same thing when he said her mental illness made her actions not make sense. He either doesn’t know what mental illness is or has ever played a video game.
Cosmic horror is such a niche thing that crosses over with so many other niche things and this game has it all. It certainly feels AA but it's like control, resident evil and hp lovecraft had a baby in the 70s on drugs.
I just finished a let’s play for this and it’s incredible! Definitely a new favorite in the horror genre
Love this game. Its only $40! And im not 100% sure but it seems to have ray traced reflections on PS5 and Series X.

Im playing last 2 hour this game rigjt naw and its not bad buy no means. I like horror games and this one its good. Not much horror as of naw but its interesting to finish this one.

And it's nowhere near close to either tbh, disappointed in this, I'd recommend The Sinking City for any H.P Lovecraft fan, it's janky and has its faults but it is greater than the sum of it's parts, this is a mediocre game on every level unfortunately, Happy Christmas to you all 🇮🇪
I bought this game on sale for dirt cheap and for the dirt cheap price i paid it is pretty…okay. Can’t expect every indie game to be gold, it’s an indie game after all.

Would someone please tell developers that we as players don't want another meter to constantly service while playing a game? Listen. The "sanity" meter was a new idea. that's it. it was a new idea. It was NEVER a good one. It was actually just another shitty mechanic invented to slow players down from beating the game too fast, or to add a meaningless mechanic to annoy the player to distract them from how bad the game is. Stop adding it to games because it's "trendy".

Just another "next gen" game that skipped the PS4/XBOX 1 that does not use the max this gen has to offer.
It's a small indie Team. They work with what they have lol. What it does mean though is 60 fps on Series X anyway. Very few games were a sustained 60 last gen even on Xbox one X which was pretty capable.
With the mid-gen refreshes last gen, we aren’t going to see huge leaps this gen. We had a decent amount of games running at 4K 60 FPS last gen on the One X and Pro. There’s not whole lot we’ll see other than better performance but that still Coe’s down to budget.
It looks like it could be a fun game. I think it's one of those games that I'll buy pre-owned from GameStop, so I have time to test it before being stuck with a possible horrible waste of money. That's my one gripe about PC gaming. If all games had a trial period or demo to test it out first, that would make me want to play more on PC.

@@DerangedVoices I've NEVER had that problem. I just got ragnarok and beat it, sent it back and I finished The Chant tonite. My next game will either be MW2, evil west, or sonic frontiers. Plus my dude, if there's a game u want on day 1, they have what's called gamelock. No extra fee. If u reserve a game a month in advance, you're guaranteed itl be sent to u on launch day. Recently did ragnarok and tlou remake. Callisto is my next one on day 1. I love it tbh. Between gamepass and this service, I haven't spent 70 bucks in a long ass time.
