This choral for male voices has all the right elements. Using a beautiful poem by Rainer Maria Rilke, Richard Burchard has weaved his signature musical lines into a deeply touching song. The commission by conductor and Pavane series editor, John Byun, for the 2018 Tennessee MEA High School All-State, completes the circle of creativity. Excellent for concerts for any season.

I imagine few will read this, but this is the first time I’ve cried listening to a choral piece since I was in a choir myself. What that means, if anything, I don’t know, but this has done something profound in me

Alabama All State 2021 TTBB is singing this and I really hope I make it on Bass 2. This is so beautiful

I had so much fun learning this piece. Being in the choir this song was originally for was an honor. This beautiful piece with so much meaning was a highlight of the performance.

As a member of the SATB choir, I was pretty jealous when I heard this, it's one of the most beautiful choral pieces I've ever heard.

Tell me how the beginning is literally “Dedication” by the same composer set to different text

Well, the bass line in Dedication descends, in this it ascends. It doesn't follow the same harmonic progression, the melodies aren't related. . .other than being in a major key and having no chromaticism, they literally don't resemble one another. Are you looking at the right scores??

@@richardburchard I think this composition is an amazing piece of work, I have a question though I see that this song is based on a poem and I wanted to know what the message of the song is? Also is this Matthew Curtis singing?

@@tdvorak9987 the text to me personally talks about the pull of love between two people and how it can become irresistible. The piece let's the listener ponder what force causes love to be so strong.
