- What are the burgers that influenced Burger Scholar George Motz? To answer that question, we have to head to his hometown region of Long Island, New York. In the season finale of The Burger Show, George Motz shows Alvin Cailan how to make 3 hyper-regional burgers that he grew up loving: the Chamby (a hamburger topped with ham), the Chester (a grilled cheese with a patty in the middle), and the Crispy Fried Onion Burger. What do they have in common? They're all simple, classic burgers that date back nearly 40 years. Get ready to learn about these life-changing hamburgers!

That's a wrap on Season 8! Like if you're happy to see the Motzman!
Never a moment in my life when I'm not
Ignoring the bots like usual. Love to see George! The man exudes positive vibes!
More Motz More Motz More Motz
I missed him soooooo!!!! Please more Motz burger scholar next season. It’s not the same without him!!!!
Thank you (,:
I love that Motz doesn't shy away from showing his mistakes or how many times his reckless enthusiasm results in being burned.
Failure is part of the process.
I think it's up to the editor lol
@@Aerix you'd know that better than anyone, you failure
The mistake is showing this show at all... :-P
The blood and tears add flavor
It's not a true episode unless he's burning himself and swearing, and this one hit every one of those on the head. Love this series so much
There's a compilation of every time George has burned himself: ruclips.net/video/xk_tNCnMeIM/видео.html
Even upped the ante with a potential grease fire
@@King_Ding_82 He's written a book, and I'm pretty sure he's paid for this so burger specialist is a job.
There's been 8 seasons of The Burger Show?!? It only feels like 3...maybe 4. I guess I just can't get enough of it. Hats off to everyone behind the scenes. You're doing great work!
More than 1 per year
It’s because each season is like 4 episodes.
you're an excited fella, huh?
@@thepath964 I am hahah
We NEED more Burger Scholar Sessions. Give us what we want!
Lol Paul chill out
Yeah chill bro there’s tons of episodes and they keep making them lol
We need to have George be cohost and on the show regularly. That guy is just too amazing to make the occasional guest visit episode. Please have him host or cohost . . .
About time George is back
It's not a George Motz joint if there isn't a burn punctuated with an "Ah! Fuck!"...so happy he is willing to sacrifice his health for our education and pleasure!
Motz is back? Heck yes!
I don’t think I could love motz anymore than I do😂😂
🤣🤣
ruclips.net/video/isvTO_SdfDw/видео.html 😬
Sure you could. He could knock on your door in five minutes with a grocery bag of burger ingredients.
@@psyberian man that would be an absolute treat
He got his own youtube channel if you want to see more of him
We are simple people.
We see George Motz, we click.
George is like a kid in a candy store; his passion for all things burgers warms my heart
omg we almost lost two of our burger royalty in one oil mishap! I can't believe that didn't cause a fire, the man upstairs clearly loves burgers and was watching out for you both
FINALLY MORE MOTZZZZZ!!! He is the single best host y’all have ever had. Dare I say he’s even better than the OG Action Bronson fuck that’s delicious…..plz plz plz bring back more
Motz…a Motz a day keeps the doctor away!
The Chester is reminiscent of the Friendly's (New England / Mid-Atlantic ice cream restaurant chain) Big Beef Cheeseburger, still available in the few remaining restaurants that are open. That was my favorite Friendly's meal as a kid: Big Beef Cheeseburger (on butter-grilled white bread), crinkle-cut fries and a Junior Chocolate Fribble milkshake.
Aside from Sean Evans, George is First We Feast's MVP. Protect him at all costs
Forget Sean and just have George host or cohost
Big man Motz needs to make a Motts burger. Double smash patties with smoked gouda and apple sauce.
omg that sounds so wrong and yet I want to see it so bad
See, I think a Motz would be a Chester with fried onions.
Chester-Motz or Motz-Chester??
Apple sauce comes in as a no, but I'd try it.
Grilled apple, maybe
I let out a sigh of relief and whispered "Ah, finally" to myself after seeing George Motz in the thumbnail.
The burger GOD has returned. George Mortz
my mouth stays watering watching this show
This was a walk down memory lane for me -- I grew up on the south fork of Long Island, so hearing Eastport, Quogue & Westhampton Beach brought a smile to my face, as did seeing the Triangle Pub and the Chester!
Who knew I've been making Chester burgers my whole life .... THE MOTZMAN!!!
There's a cheeseburger in the El Paso/Juarez region that has ham, a hot dog, and salsa verde; sometimes a thin slice of steak is added, called milanesa . I would love to see an episode on it l.
Gross
@@b1k2q34 be quiet, Karen. They're amazing.
I've been eating "the chester" for over 40 years. Only growing up, we just referred to it as a patty melt.
My dad referred to it as "we don't need to buy buns we have bread at home"
its same wi lasagne being first pasta for a reason, easy to store like square bread
A patty melt is a grilled cheeseburger with grilled onions... this is not that.
I love watching these while eating actual burgers...although the ones I cook at home tend to reflect my own "regional favorite" from my hometown of Wakefield, Massachusetts...that is, the minimally-adorned double quarter pound patties, two slices of white American, and Super Beef sauce (or, now that I live in Seattle, BBQ sauce, and no, they're not the same thing.) There's a beautiful purity to it.
More Burger Scholar! It's the only First We Feast show I still regularly watch.
Me too.
Grew up in the same neck of the woods as George. Always love when he mentions my old haunts!
George needs to recreate the Cheese Dream from The Good Steer in Centereach Long Island!
That is a wrap party! Great to see George in his element! You guys are fantastic! Thank you for giving me more to experiment with.
Everyone needs to stop and appreciate George's Charlie Brown Christmas tree in the back there.
Love it.
The minute I saw what these burgers were going to be about, I was like, 'Oh yeah, this is why I love George Motz. Show me how to incorporate cheap sliced ham into a burger and make it awesome. Show me how to make a great burger with cheap sliced bread.'
Seriously, I love this stuff. Keep it coming.
George lost it on the last burger 🤣 almost burnt his place down
Can it catch fire on an electric burner? I thought it needed a flame
@@sammygg21 it's not electric, you can see him turn the gas on again (and Alvin mentions it) :)
@@sammygg21 I'm not sure if that burner was electric or gas, but I've lit oil on fire before with an electric stove. You don't need a flame, just enough heat.
There really aren't any other videos I click on faster than new uploads with George in them. Truly my favourite part of RUclips.
You guys are legit my favourites on RUclips! What a duo, we need more of you guys 🎉
Really?
The crispy fried onion is an under used ingredient for Hamburgers.
The crispy fried onion made me go “wait is that the good steer”? I was wrong but I somehow got Long Island right
That Chester, if you add mayo and diced raw onions under the cheese, reminds me of Friendly's patty melt from Long Island.
lmao I love how george drops the onions in and the oil bubbles over and his immediate instinct is to put MORE in
Good stuff gentlemen! Love the burgers and the personalities
I've been kind of making a Chester up here in Ontario . 1/4 lb ground sirloin with marble cheese on the bottom slice and velveeta on the top one . Sirloin burgers are a staple for me, just love them .
Can't go wrong with The Chester!
Simple, cheap, easy, delicious. Like a humbled patty melt, if you will.
Stellar video as always, we love seeing George Motz pop up on our subscriptions!
🤤🤤🤤
Yeah just don't make a big deal out of it. "Oh, this life-changing burger is from my home town!". Dude, it's from *everybody's* home town. Who the heck has never substituted sliced bread for a burger bun? It's not some kind of culinary breakthrough.
Season 8 was great! Thanks so much!
Great show George! Keep up the good work! 👍
I'm guessing there were audio issues with Alvin's mic.
It was tucked under his chins.
Yeah sounds like it wasn't working, so they just used the boom mic that recorded the sounds in the room and picked his voice up that way.
his gravitational pull interfered with the audio waves
They need to find a new host. He’s seriously terrible.
@@SilverFoo79 I just don't understand why a man with zero charisma wanted to be in front of a camera.
Been making the Chester my whole life.
George Motz is an absolute gem and im always stoked to see him on the channel
I've made versions of all three of times.
Thanks for the video and Merry Christmas
I've been making my own type of Chester burger for several years now it seems. I was high, wanted a burger but also wanted a grilled cheese. Decided to make both, but instead my burgerwas two separate grilled cheese sandwiches, with the burger inbetween. The next day, while not high, I realized I could just make a grilled cheese and add a burger patty to it instead of two grilled cheeses and remembered that for a later time.
Pretty damn good sandwiches.
Love your guys work. That mic though, poor guy never got turned on.
All i needed for christmas was another episode with George Motz .. thank you.
Always glad to see George on here.
I’ve been making “chester’s” for years… never knew (but always assumed) someone else has done this!
Everyone does this. That's why this video is so ridiculous. Like it's some kind of long-lost burger lore known only to one town in all the World. Lol. "Hey, look! BREAD! I'm a Genius!"
All of them looks delicious but Crispy Fried Onion Burger is definitely my favorite!
It wouldnt be Christmas without Motz! Have a great Holiday season everyone!
LOVE your shows - thank you
Besides the obvious constant hazards, George’s house is still burger school. Thanks guys.
George will always make an episode on the original, then kick off burger scholars 3 weeks later haha. I love it
Seeing Alvin and George together is amazing
I need more of George please!
Motz and Alvin together should be the show. Come on guys, you know it's true. 100 years more of Burgers!
the fact that Alvin Cailan is still alive is amazing
Always a good day when I see a new video featuring George Motz and his unique hamburger knowledge.
Bread. Wow. Unique knowledge. 😂
This made my week. Great stuff.
We did the Chester in college. Not knowing it existed already, we called it "the van coma" because our dining hall was named Van Houten, and if you ate more than two, you went back home and passed out.
Need to try and make your version of the “Thurmanator” from Thurman Cafe in Columbus Ohio. It’s a burger named after the Arnold Expo where guys would come in and ask for giant burgers. The Thurmanator is over 8k calories!! Even if you ask for well done the burgers are still juicy and delicious.
I've seen the Thurmanator on Man vs Food
George Motz always puts a smile on my face.
Love seeing George
Did they forget to turn Alvin’s lav on?
We made a Chester in college. But we didn’t know it had a name so we named it after the dude who made it. Ours was different though, we had a completed grilled cheese that we had to open up and then put the burger patty inside. It was great and made the nasty college burgers taste way better
Graduating class of '06! From Noter dáme, lol We also had dudes hussling the Chester burgers here too!! A guy named Marcus & his budds, only lived like 2 doors down from mines. It either smell't of Fineee delicious burgers Or Pot the next day xD *Never really could tell with these guys!* But they sure made time at the dorm fly by lol, good memories, goodtimes. Anyways something always interesting with those guys about. *Heres the Cake!* From their own freaking room!! Seem't like Every Thru's-Saturday they'd have folks lined up & round't the corner of the halls clutching 6 bucks jones'ing up & down 😂 For a basket meal! Here. They weren't called no Chester Burgers lmao they were dubbed ' Mark's burgers!!! & they came with Stake fries too Or chips sumdays! Pickle on the side too
@@rollerzleader2812 I think ours were like “Tyler burgers” can’t remember the dudes name lol
I LOVE these shows!
Man, I didn’t know how much I needed this.
So, apparently, my struggle burger that I've been making the last several months because I keep forgetting to buy burger buns is called The Chester. I knew I couldn't be the first one to think of it, but I didn't expect it to actually be a thing.
Chester probably wasn't the first to do it either, for that matter.
I doubt you bother to make the meat square.
True. I don't. It honestly never occured to me to do so. Close enough.
Little pubs in NZ still do the free food thing. Usually a specific time of night - my pub was 8pm - trays of food come out and anyone with a drink could eat for free. Little wee sliders, fries, wedges etc. basic finger food stuff.
I love the Burger Scholar. He's my favorite on 1st we feast!
Chris from Missouri
It’s really good to see George back on the show. He needs more input!!
I grew up in Ohio eating a burger nearly identical to "The Chester". Only difference was ours had an onion slice on it.
Onions always make anything better.
Hey y'all! It's not much of a "regional delicacy" unless you include my house as a region, but at my place we mix low quality store-bought ground meat with Lipton Onion Soup Mix (because we're poor) and it adds a really nice flavor to the awful beef.
Alvin was excited 3:46 *CHOMP* tbf. Looks great.
These 2 guys are THE burger meisters. Great job guys!
"this burger is revolutionary"
*Puts two pieces of cheese on a burger instead of one*
Alvin seems like he’s having a harder and harder time just standing and talking. Take care of yourself my man.
I love learning all of these tid bits of history about food as well as the burgers etc ❤
Good lord, I thought I was about to watch the last Burger Show to ever be filmed in George's apartment!
When I was a kid, I always thought a "double cheese burger" was just... double the amount of cheese, not literally two cheese burgers. 😳 It made sense as a kid...
The last burger looked incredibly undercooked, I knew they weren't going to show a cross section lol
That was my thought as well
That's the way I like it. I grew up raising our own beef, so no need to cook the meat to death. Now I have to get over cooked burgers :(
Love these guys!
The real positivity and laughter always brings me up.
Watching someone preparing burgers who's soon to die from cardiac arrest/ arterial occlusion kind of ruins my appetite for fast food
I use this show as a way to keep myself in shape. Whenever I get a craving, I watch an episode and I'm instantly nauseous from watching Calvin's face.
Guy in the black has enough body fat to feed himself for 2 years lost in the woods.
love this guy
The Chester isn’t dissimilar to what Friendly’s used to do with grilled cheese. It was known as a “set up” for the burger (I had a buddy that worked the grill). They pulled apart the grilled cheese and placed the burger in there. This was back in the early days when the Big Beef (medium rare) was very buttery special. A Big Beef medium rare on a rye set up was something that can only be dreamt of today.
"Congrats to everyone who is earty and who found this comment"!
Why does Alvin have to be there? Dude’s insufferable. George doesn’t need a sidekick.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't stand Alvin. His content is terrible
Alvin acts like everything done to a burger is some sort of glorious innovation whereas George just teaches you about the history and tells you to try it for yourself.
It's like a quick little hang out with the people who, like you, know how to really enjoy something everyone takes for granted
the burger
and you could say whatever you want about that
what's the truth is
you only get so much experience in life and a this crew hanging out together
we're enjoying this as much as humanly possible
that's called winning at life
Chamby is my favorite burger, you can't go wrong.
Love MOTZ! always epic session
5:20 I was told in a baking class that bread is square becuase it maximizes the amount of the soft white part while minimizing the amount of crust.
As the years have gone by of watching this, I can only appreciate the dedication to burger history. Thanks for keeping this history alive.
Edit: I had to order your book, because I want to continue the legacy you created.
Another epic videos from the masters of the burger!
the difference in audio quality between the 2 presenters in the same room clearly shows the importance of mic quality
Love seeing the eastern long island representation here! I grew up a little east of westhampton beach.
Alvin and George are such a great combo.
That’s fair. I like em together though.
The chaos Motz brings when he cooks makes me think Josh from Mythical and him would make a great video
