Two of my favorite songs by them (admittedly that's not exactly a short list for me but still :P ) It was really apt that you mentioned the whole "red thread" interconnecting the songs because Moments Before the Storm for me is similar to Love Will Come to You from your previous video but this time instead of being the former lover saying it will get better it's about the more in the thick of things of the singer dealing with the pain of heartbreak. The way that something reminds them about the relationship and the pain just hits all over again. To compare to the five stages of grief Love Will Come to You would be depression and acceptance to Moments Before the Storms denial, anger and bargaining. Just that rough period where the wounds are fresh and everything around you is just a reminder of the pain. And this is a common thing that Poets do where they will tackle similar themes but change the perspective or what aspect it's focusing on. This is actually something I like because it means that listening to their music can in a way be like a full discussion on different subjects rather than just a brief bit on a topic before moving onto the next. It's nice that they don't just stop at one thought or perspective on the matter. Then we have In a Perfect World. You were dead on with this one. It's just all about that notion of good times will come (and again we can see parallels in theme with other Poets songs such as with Love Will Come to You). Basically acknowledging that we don't live in a perfect world but instead that we at least we can get glimpses of it. We can have moments of it. It might be hard to get there but if we persevere the proverbial dawn will come. To reference another of my personal obsessions I'd compare it to a game of Mahjong (Japanese Mahjong not the matching game). Mahjong is fairly luck based. It's all about drawing tiles and trying to form a winning hand. But between the luck of the draw and the fact that you have three other players the reality is that even if you are really good you aren't going to win every hand. You can't be perfect. So instead it becomes about doing what you can and trying to keep putting your best foot forward to give yourself the best odds that things will work out. And then they eventually do. Sometimes because of luck sometimes because of your efforts, sometimes a bit of column A and a bit of column B. And sure sometimes it's bad sometimes you have a game where you just get ground into a fine paste by the other players. But you just pull yourself back up and keep trudging along and eventually things will have those moments were everything's coming up Roses (bonus point to those who notice the dumb joke, sorry not sorry :P ) Same with life. You just keep doing what you can and try to give yourself the best odds for things to work out.
In a perfect world really got to me. Its something i tell my wife often. Our time will come! Im so happy that you keep on spending countless times to write your long and super awesome comments. I appreciate you!
Great speech in the end! I think no one has suggested those 2 songs I highly like from them: "Smoke and Mirrors" and "Nothing Stays the Same". Worth the listen ^^
Thank you for suggesting new songs! I appreciate it a lot. And yeah, the speech was straight from my heart. Glad it noticed and glad you appreciated it.
I loved the silence after In a perfect world... the way you gathered your thoughts and shared beyond the music. Thank you for that. About the red thread in the songs and the context of Poets work, yeah you are correct, tho at the same time each song stands for itself and sometimes more than one listen is needed to grasp it... I don’t know. I get what you said tho 😉 take care
These are definitely my two favourite songs on that particular album and I'm glad you enjoyed them! As you (and others) already mentioned, there are several threads winding their way through their songs - similar topics and themes getting revisited, but also certain key terms. In Ultraviolet, for example, if you listen to the album in order, you'll hear mentions of a puppet master and a labyrinth and then later on the labyrinth is burned down and the puppet master is mentioned again, too, so there are certain stories being told across several songs. You can even see that reflected in their music videos, were (sometimes metaphorical) puppet masters, the jester and the man with the scars on his face keep appearing throughout various videos. To me, the overall story they are telling is one of struggling to make it in a world that is not always kind and often unjust, of facing grief and fear and loneliness and hopelessness ... and always, always, an acknowledgement that things do get better, that you will go on, that you do deserve good things and that you will get them if you can only make it through this darkness. As a writer who often draws on these particular emotions, this is why I enjoy listening to them and why they will always be my favourite band. It's absolutel wonderful to see you listen your way through their huge repertoire (you're nowhere close to the end and at this point I'm starting to wonder if a new album will be out just in time for you to have caught up) and appreciating the incredible work they have done. I'm looking forward to your summary video, though I think narrowing it down to 5 songs will be fairly difficult. I hope you've been taking notes along the way!
I have my top five done, but it’s a “living” thing and it’s changes every now and then. New songs pop up and they push out the ones on the top. I know I’m not close to the end. I do enjoy this.
Two wonderful songs!! I know you love the videos of the Poets, Recky. Yet... because there is always so much to their songs and to discover at first listen, I think just listening without any 'video-distraction' is best. They demand attention ;)
As you said, both these songs are from Ultraviolet, which is their latest album. It's just mindblowing when you think back to their first album Signs Of Life (2005), which is Pitch-Perfect... here we are with Ultraviolet (2018), their 8th album of original material ... and the quality of their music never wavered, despite all the different approaches they always manage to bring in as well. In a way, each of the songs on those 8 albums is rewarding. Quite an achievement.

Another song of theirs has the same vibe Perfect World is Maybe Tomorrow is a Better Day. The Distance to is awesome.
Two really good Poets songs for me. Nice you reacted for those :)
Hope you enjoyed!
@@Reckyj yep, like allways :)

What i mean is that the songs always has a message, and i think that people dont see or even understand the complexity of it all.
