Rasing young when Springs floods, snowmelts, increases in ppt of various forms relevant to site and propensity to flow elsewhere, freshwater habitats stem from various Riparian and Wetland specialists including these two species. Rodents are not a family they are an order, which is why it is more correct to say "the order Rodentia" instead of "the rodent family", because not all rodents are related, muskrats belong to the family Cricetidae along with hamsters, lemmings, and voles, which is part of the suborder Myomorpha (Mouse-Like Rodents), while beavers are rodents that form the family Castoridae, which is part of the suborder Sciuromorpha (Squirrel-Like Rodents), beavers are more closely related to squirrels, gophers, heteromyids, springhares, and dormice than they are to muskrats, the similarities of muskrats with beavers is an example of convergent evolution.
