WNBC in the 80s was a good example of a station that would let their DJs do an actual "show" as opposed to stations whose PDs muzzled the jocks after 9am to just time 'n' temp every 15 min. "Shut up and play records."
What a great video! I always loved Dan Taylor's show....he had a great voice and personality...so cool to finally see him 'in the flesh.' He was so young! How I miss those great old AM stations, coming over the airwaves late in the night. Hope that Dan Taylor is doing well...wherever he is today!
In June of '87 I left my hometown area and six years of radio employment there for the Catskills and WVOS Liberty, NY. I recall hearing the Time Machine then and it was more than likely Dan Taylor behind the mic. Hadn't yet fully realized this show was homage to the departed WABC format right down to the "Musicpower" tag line. In the 90s I occasioned to aircheck Dan doing a country oldies show on WYNY. In any case, a peerless professional of the kind I attempted to emulate in my own performance on-air.
I hear Dale Parsons doing that promo. He went to WNBC from Norfolk Va where he was a talent extraordinaire! This is when radio was entertaining! Its nothing but crap today!
This must've been made right after WHN closed up shop. I can never get enough of the reverb, echo chamber, or whatever one calls it. I used to call Dan Taylor when he was at WHN.
@Radio Freak : Oh, don't be so butthurt, Radio Freak. He didn't say you guys are nothing, he just complimented us. I've heard some European DJs who definitely would hold their own...and I'm sure you're one of them.
Great video...I worked at WNBC but went to TV right before the Pams Jingle thing...but that was a great sound. Just like WABC in the good old days. "Day late...Dollar shy." NBC Radio was always like that...a little behind the curve.
Whenever I hear Time Machine 'checks, I always forget that WNBC had gone combo (where the jocks ran the boards) and picture the jock playing traffic cop getting all those jingles & songs fired at the right time.
Hearing that echo in the processing always takes me back to the days. We actually have a physical echo chamber built into the attic of the CC... er... iHM building, but it's not hooked into anything.
I did not listen to Dan Taylor but my father did, I kinda just decided to watch this and I must say he is a great DJ with a great voice. This is the kind of radio that doesn't exist anymore.. it died in the late 90s early 2000s. Now everything is just so corporate and blah
The brilliance of this art.
This is when Radio was Radio and not just an Ipod. It was shows like this that got me into a lifetime career as a DJ & radio presenter. Great Stuff !

66 wNNNbc was a great radio station. Awesome personalities and tunes.

Look at ALL those CARTS behind him !!!
Meanwhile the radio station plays the same songs over and over and doesn’t utilize their entire library!
I love his voice!!!!!!!
Wow, what a jingle-heavy show...quite the contrast from stations that play maybe 2 or 3 an hour.
Dan Taylor in The Time Machine counting down the hits.

Great blast from the past and Dan Taylor on the BIG 66.
Dan Taylor was on WCBS-FM for a few years-Unfortunately,he's no longer there.

by the look of all those Carts the production person must have been kept busy.
Dude is TIGHT!
Awesomely incredible ... "soups on"... :) love this zippy style... always will...
They reverbed the whole signal. I makes the station sound fuller and bigger when coming out of a traditional 31/2" transistor radio speaker.
Jon Brooks I wish stations used it today both am and fm.
Jon Brooks I always wondered why they did that?
I enjoyed the time machine used to tune it in ever weekend
Hey kids… this is how it’s done
USA radio jocks are the best in the world.

"best"? Maybe only to the americans, just that
@@anitabosse No. They are the best to everyone in the world. No one can touch them for personality or vocal tone.

Hard to believe the Big 66 is no more.
Excellent...!!!!
What a travesty to discontinue Mr. Taylor's morning show.
Nuff said.... so sad.:(
"The Best Show in New London"! I did a stint there myself!

+Robert Leu Was 66 WNBC a NABET or AFTRA station?
@@epgrove1961 both.
Mornings on WCBS-FM. He's doing/sounding great!
Jon Brooks but the playlist of the current 101.1 is garbage in my opinion.
Yes.
This was very good indeed 1:50
What's the song being played in the first seconds of the video?
Adrian Conoza Delfonics w “Didnt I” (1970)
Why the reverb on the mic? Make the DJ sound 'bigger'?
Imagine listening to it on a 5¢ speaker connected to the Sonomatic AM radio in Dad's Oldsmobuiac.
DT top act
