    I'd give one of my eyes and one of my nads for a way back to there and then!
    That way I'll still be able to see the smart 80's lasses and I'll still be able to...appreciate them!

    Got to be 1988, possibly 1989. I was born and grew up in Durham in the 1980's. Went to school at St Godric's, then St Leonard's. It hasn't changed hugely, although the obvious differences are the hospital, the car park opposite national savings which is now a housing estate and national savings itself which has now been demolished to make way for new development. Nice to see the old cars and less congested roads!

    My great aunty Francis and great uncle Bobby ran and owned the fish and chip shop in the 70’s near Travellers Rest (in the last few frames) on the right just after the Zebra Crossing - thank you for bringing back many wonderful childhood memories. Left Durham City in 1977 for the Royal Navy. Now live in the US. I miss those days.

    Good to see someone was far-sighted enough to do this & show it today with "lap-top free" vehicles. The year is likely to be 1989 thanks to the 3rd generation Vauxhall Cavalier. Also think that the car parked on left at 9:27 might be a Talbot Tagora. If so rare even then.

    I'd forgotten that there was an exit from Dryburn hospital right onto that roundabout. So little traffic. Really not like that anymore, definitely couldn't do the whole trip in just 10 minutes now.

      Not been to Durham in the past 20 years then?
      There's loads of ugly new buildings blighting the city, the car park below the train station is now houses & there's the Prince Bishops shopping precinct. It makes me sad how much Durham has been ruined.

    I always think it's a shame there doesn't appear to be any old footage or photos of the old Dryburn Hospital online. I remember there being a report on the local news about violence towards A&E staff that showed the inside of the casualty department. I think that will have been around 1996/7. It was definitely after the refurbishment of the department because the floor was white. I remember thinking that was an improvement on the old one which were very garish shades of green and orange. I think they moved back into the refurbished department around early 1996. I don't know if it's just me but I find those old style hospital designs fascinating even if somewhat dysfunctional. The way the corridors went round corners and up hills was quite intriguing. It would be great if there was some old footage or photos inside the old hospital showing this.

    Jesus, they liked their drab cars up in Durham! No Sporty cars at all, in fact seemed to be the same 3 or 4 cars all over the place!
    Looks more like late 80’s poss early 90’s there was a MK3 Cavalier on the road at 8:55 and they were released in ‘88.

    alan, not trying to be smart but this is the very late 80s or even 1990, you can tell by the car models and registrations.

      100% AGREE... This is indeed late 1980's or maybe even as late as 1990. Been a "Car nerd" I know these things. HOWEVER it is still a GREAT video.. I passed my car driving test in January 1990 .. I can remember driving around these roads at this time... Have a look at this road now... IT IS A NIGHTMARE ..They have just added extra traffic lights... MAKES NO CHANGE... Still a TOTAL nightmare..
      Nice to see a few Bristol Buses and Leyland National buses still in service. .. WHERE HAVE THE YEARS GONE.

    • @trabali5168
      @trabali5168 7 лет назад

      "where have the years gone" couldnt agree more with that statement bro, i passed in dec 1990 and yeah i am a bit of a car nerd too. at 9:12 you can clearly see a mark 3 cavalier, they came out late 88 and the one shown is F plate, so yeah this is def. 89-90

    • @briansaiditsoitmustbetrue4206
      @briansaiditsoitmustbetrue4206 7 лет назад

      Nice spot.... that was the newest car I have seen in this video The MK3 Cavalier.. Came out in late 1988 (As you said) The shopping centre at 08:09 in this video (Built 1984-1986) has now been demolished. The office buildings at 01:53 in this video have now also been demolished. I have watch this video a few times now pausing it at random... Never seen anything newer ..Like the MK 5 Ford Escort (Came out in 1990)
      So if I had to pinpoint this video I would say 1989.
      I have seen some massive changes to the volume of cars since I passed my car driving test in 1990 (Even since I passed my bus driving test in 1998)
      it was MUCH harder to pass the car driving test in 1990 when we passed our test than it is now...
      Kind regards once again Dennis

    • @trabali5168
      @trabali5168 7 лет назад

      i think the less said about the mk 5 escort the better,(probably the worst escort, got slated by the press too)! i wouldnt know about the buildings as i am not from durham, im originally from yorkshire but now in london(s**t hole) for the past 20 years!

    • @briansaiditsoitmustbetrue4206
      @briansaiditsoitmustbetrue4206 7 лет назад

      You do indeed know your stuff.. The H reg MK 5 Ford Escort was indeed a pile of pap. But however that said... The last of the line cars on a W and X reg were not bad at all.. You often find that during a cars life the car gets better and they "Iron out" all the problems... Then they start to get TOO reliable. Then they discontinue the car.. And the cycle begins again. It is always good to talk to someone who also knows what they are talking about.
